What i love about h20 is that the actresses for cleo and ricky were both in a shark movie called bait (3D) and then the actress for emma was in 47 meters down so all the mermaids have been in shark movies

His films are so interesting and grounded, never imagined he was so eccentric 😂 I remember being so angry with the main character of the summer's tale it's brilliant 😂 We need a filmmaker like him today, to have a break of all the hyper fast artificial empty action-based no-thought films.

This was a lovely and honest trip through your film-watching. It is fascinating to hear your thoughts on these films and I learned what Celine & Julies was about! You're very honest and intelligent and hard-working, so you'll definitely be fine. Just for the record, my favourite films or film-watching experiences from April & May were: Akitsu Springs, The Adjuster, 100's of Beavers, Cloud-capped Star, Morgiana, Gion Bayashi. ...And I added Goodbye Dragon Inn to my 'to see' list.👍

I’d like the video essay. It made some good points and it also open eyes on certain depictions that aren’t really talked about as much, but there were certain points where I didn’t necessarily agree. Such as consuming a certain type of media and enjoying it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re a certain type of person. I think it’s a that puts a certain type of people in a box. I enjoy Quentin Tarantino films, yet I also enjoy ladybird and hidden figures but I don’t treat women in any type of way or treat them less than. The same could go with music if I listen to a music about drugs that doesn’t necessarily mean I take them. I just enjoyed the art

On my last rewatch I literally thought that the only thing making this show even better would be a r rating that would allow them to drop fbombs. for sure Rikki would do the most swearing 😂😂

I love this piece of content you created but what really gets me is you don’t make your cut between two clips breathe when there’s a quote involve. Let your audience take the time to read the quote. The cut is so fast that we gasping for air.

I always saw the ‘old soul’ label as a way adults have of describing kids who are neurodivergent and/or traumatized. It’s like being different to other children ages you, and adults value that because you’re easier to deal with.

I was going to ask your 'take' on Eric Rohmer, but I see several people have already mentioned his superb film-making. Perhaps you do not include him in your category of 'nothing happens' because although his films are indubitably 'slice of life', they do have a clear storyline. On another subject entirely...you mention knitting as an example of repetitive activity and compare it to computer games. While knitting is certainly repetitive and can be carried out in tandem with another activity (such as watching your interesting video!) it differs from video games etc by being useful and creative. The knitter ends up with a pullover for her daughter, a shawl for her friend, socks for her father...

There is more problems in this world than the highfalutin perspective towards world of consumerism, capitalism, isms or "False Nothingness" or Identity etc..If people should see nothingness better head to Sudan or anywhere poverty shows the empty stomach's actions amd response of it is cinematic and artistic... When we sit in the comforts of deterministic world view all looks artistry in nthingness..

When we sit in the comforts of a deterministic world view pampered by a safety of freedom, all looks like artistry in nothingness and our depressed souls trapped in the comforts make everything looks nothing..

I totally agree with you about Challengers! You’re right that Tashi’s character was so underdeveloped- had no idea she was meant to be from a working class background (!) - and it felt like a really empty film. It’s more of a “style over substance” film for people who want to thirst for the main cast, and I’m not sure how everyone else is getting so much emotion and thematic weight from it 🤔

Very interesting video. I only really disagree with the very end of your essay, on the obsolescence of glory. It may be absurd in the modern world for men to pursue honor and glory, but it remains necessary not only for their mental health, but also for the preservation of society as a whole.

9:38 - 11:15 Imagining I'm a male filmmaker: Tbh I don't fully understand this argument. I agree with the notion that empowerment should not mean women filling stereotypical male societal roles. But what do you mean "acting like a man?" Realistically, how are we supposed to portray women in film? It doesn't matter what actions we depict, they're always going to be interpreted as "stereotypically masculine" or "stereotypically feminine." We can't win. Should we just abstain from depicting women at all to avoid being criticized by feminists? No, I don't think that's the right answer. So realistically, what can we do? No matter how we portray women, feminists will find a reason to be upset about it. We can't win. So why should we even try?
