How to: Install lowering springs on a 2023 Civic Type R | THE EASY WAY!! | Step by step
Step by step DIY guide on how to remove the factory FL5 suspension and reinstall with lowering springs. Same guide can be used for coilovers as well!
Overall this felt a lot easier and quicker vs when I did springs on both of my FK8 Type R’s.

Taking Delivery of my new 2023 Civic Type R!

I took delivery of my new FL5 on May 25th 2023 @ 11pm PST. The car was purchased out of state from Round Rock Honda in Texas and delivered to me here in San Diego, CA
Hey man I’m having a problem after installing my lowering spring. There’s a clunking noise on the right side idk what it is.
This method will guarantee both or either sides cv axle to come out. 😂.
Did you go with Honda for shipping your car or a third party company? My sales rep recommended I ship with a third party company since it's cheaper but I wasn't true if I trusted it compared to having Honda ship it for me
Did you cut the rear bump stops?
Hey bro, thanks for this video. BTW, did you mean "ABS" instead of "ADS" connector? Also, is wheel alignment necessary after performing this job?
thanks for taking the time to make this video!
Do you still have the same issue with the axel popping out on the driver and passenger side as with the fk8?
My driver side did 😂
@@MH-kt9pnjust did my install and driver side axle also came out.. suddenly have a leak in that area when I went to get an alignment. Did you by chance experience something similar or just me
@@brianbarrera2775 Yes. The seal was damaged. My dealer covered it under warranty. If not it was like 180.00 to have it repaired
Very helpful video man. I really appreciate it especially when there is hardly any 'how to' videos on the topic. If i may add a couple of things: 1) with both sway bar links disconnected as per your advice fit a block of timber to push down on the sway bar so it doesn't push against the cv axle. (It caused mine to dislodge from the tranny & leaked oil or perhaps the hub assembly tilted too far away from the car) 2) turn steering wheel slightly to the left if doing left front as it prevents hub assembly tipping forward when fitting strut back in. Cheers
Does turning it really help for how much the assembly tips forward? How much did you turn your wheel?
How did you get it up on jacks lol
Low profile ramps or blocks.
I followed step by step, how do you have so much play? Cant seem to pry out the strut or have much play at all.
Hey what did you do the free it. Having the same problem as well
@stovetank2711 had my mechanic friend come over and help. He loosened something else I think the tie rods and also a 4ft pry bar
@@adanmendoza7517 thanks for the reply🤙
This helped me a lot thank you
Great video. Were these FK8 specific H&R springs?
I'll probably never lower mine, as it scrapes enough around town at stock height. But thanks for the info!
@user-gz9tq9fo5b not even pot holes just driving around town. Turing onto side street that have an incline. Some of them pretty extreme which I try and avoid. It would scrape on my drive way if lowered...
Did you have to cut the rear bump stops?
I have the same question
How’s the ride feeling of H&R springs?
This way works for fk8 too? Especially the front?
so for something like .75 to one inch you dont need cambers? only asking because when i wanted to purchase eibach ones the page mentioned that the i needed them.
Getting a camber kit would help if you need more adjustment than the stock suspension allows. I definitely recommend getting an alignment done after having any suspension work done as well.
Wait so you never had to remove the ball joint using the ball joint seperator tools?? My Fk8 is giving me hard time and it only have like less than half an inch until its loose
On the FL5 I did not have to touch any of the ball joints in front. I honestly don't think I did on my FK8 either, I want to say I did shoot the axle nut off in order to have a little bit more play and movement with the spindle.
@@BRYANT619 you didn’t remove the axle nut on the FL5 though, correct?
Cool vid man thanks
Thanks for watching! Hope it helps.
