My ranking for the Van Halen albums would be 12. Van Halen III 11. OU812 10. Balance 9. 5150 8. F.U.C.K. 7. A Different Kind Of Truth 6. Diver Down 5. Fair Warning 4. Women And Children First 3. Van Halen II 2. Van Halen 1. 1984
The Clash Give em enough rope( most underrated album ever) London Calling Combat Rock Sandinista Cut the Crap
No Dead? Geez... No San Fran bands. No psychedelia.
tkO, not P
For me, Head Injuries followed by 10-1.
10: Living in the Material World 9: Mind Games 8: Wings Over America 7: Double Fantasy 6: Walls And Bridges 5: All Things Must Pass 4: RAM 3: Imagine 2: Band On The Run 1: Plastic Ono Band
'Trust' is like top 3 for sure "King of America" as well
1. GBYBR 2. Don't Shoot Me 3. Captain Fantatic 4. Breaking Hearts 5. Jump Up 6. Rock of the Westies 7. The Fox 8. 21 at 33 9. Too Low for Zero 10. Honky Chateau Honorable mention Songs From the West Coast, Reg Strikes Back, Thom Bell Sessions, Ice on Fire. Big fan of the early-mid eighties records. Lots of catchy melodic pop rock songs.
Hard to imagine why i dont see riding with the king mentioned
1. ELO II 2. FACE THE MUSIC 3. A NEW WORLD RECORD. The only ELO album i still listening to....................
For your pleasure ❤ their best but I love them all
1. Infidels......
Animals over The Wall no matter where they land on the list.
Brutal Youth is a great album. I think maybe his best. Great writing, amazing voice and every song is really good. Not a fan of Spike, but your list is very good.
1. The Dreaming 2. The Kick Inside 3. Hounds of Love 4. Aerial 5. Never For Ever 6. The Sensual World 7. Lionheart 8. The Red Shoes 9. 50 Words For Snow
I’ve never understood why Wildflowers is seen as such a masterpiece. I bought it as soon as it came out and was disappointed. I’ve always considered it one of his worst albums. I still have the CD but I have most of his albums on CD.
These are my top 10 1. Toys in the Attic 2. Rocks 3. Get Your Wings 4. Draw the Line 5. Night in the Ruts 6. Get A Grip 7. Pump 8. Debut 9. Permanent Vacation 10. Done With Mirrors
1. Blonde on Blonde 2. Time out of Mind 3. Bringing it all Back Home 4. Blood on the Tracks 5. John Wesley Harding 6. Highway 61 Revisited 7. Infidels 8. Street Legal 9. Desire 10. Shot of Love 11. Rough and Rowdy Ways 12. Times They are a-Changin'
I was shocked when I discovered this video! I agree with you ranking and the rationale behind it completely, especially Can't Buy A Thrill at #1. Other videos ranking Steely Dan albums seem to overlook the fact that CBAT has its own groove going on where all the songs complement each other to create one of those rare albums that is good from beginning to end (to my ear anyway). Your commentary was spot on and I enjoyed it enormously.
This isn’t every Tom petty album even four years ago. No Johnny cash album, no wilburys and no mudcrutch. Plus in the last four years we have the live at filmore, the deluxe version is a must. It’s one of the greatest live albums ever. Wildflowers now has a second disc and angel dream. Btw heartbreakers fans want to hear an entire album recorded by the heartbreakers w/o Tom while they pretend to be the lost but greatest surf band of all time? Check out the blue stingrays album. They also have 2 other tracks you can get on vinyl or I guess mp3 if you don’t buy real music.
12) Van Halen III, just can't find any Van Halen joy in this album 11) ADKOT, With the exception of Stay Frosty it failed to recreate the Roth era magic 10) Diver Down, too many covers and too much Roth influence but still an 8/10 release . 9) Balance, still a great album with the better tracks being really strong tunes. 8) OU812, in the same ball park as Balance. It gets really tough now 7) WACF, that opening to Cradle OMG! 6) 5150, Dreams is killer to drive to. 5) F.U.C.K. Best release with Sammy 10/10 release. 4) 1984, play it now and try not to smile. 3) Van Halen, hello world, move over Van Halen coming through! 2) Van Halen II, so cool and the epitome of what Van Halen stood for. 1) Fair Warning, darker and the guitarists album. Solo on Hear About It Later still sends shivers down my spine. Ask tomorrow and could all change because apart from III and ADKOT are all amazing albums. Love the band, miss Eddie - over to you Wolf❤
As far as Eno stating that Stranded was his favorite, I think more accurately his words were, "My favorite Roxy album was the first one without me on it". Which can be taken more than one way.
IMO VH III is the worst album I've ever had the misfortune to listen to. Luckily, I picked the CD up for about $2, so no great loss when I ultimately threw it in the garbage. I can't stand the Van Hagar years, of those albums I guess I can sit through 5150, but the others, absolutely unlistenable to me. I just don't like Hagar's voice, and his awful, junior high level lyrics are excruciating. ADKOT is pretty terrible, I only like a couple tracks. I never warmed up to Women & Children First, but the other DLR-era albums are among my favourites. 1984 is my top pick, I never get tired of it. Plus I saw them on the 1984 tour, great memory.
On Every Street is a poor album. Calling Elvis is the most different song they ever did. It is indeed a great song though, just sublime, and they should have mined this seem more.
Why did Bon albums have fewer fillers?
It's all about Real to Reel!!!
Excellent appreciation of one of our greatest performers and artists. Completely agree with top selections, 'Bright Lights' is an astonishing album. Can I also recommend 'Richard Thompson at the BBC', brilliant collection of mainly solo acoustic performances in a 4CD box set.
10. Don Juan's Reckless Daughter 9. Song to a Seagull 8. Mingus 7. Clouds 6. Ladies of the Canyon 5. For the Roses 4. Hissing of the Summer Lawns 3. Court and Spark 2. Hejira 1. Blue
Been a massive RT fan for many years - I've covered a few of his songs at open mics and small gigs with my wife singing. It's a good list of his work here.
Rubbish.. Roxy's Remake ReModel is the greatest opening track!
ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!.. Well done!
5. U2 - War 4. Van Halen - 1984 3. Motörhead - AOS 2. Warlock - TAS 1. Metallica - RTL
I basically feel the same way about Imperial Bedroom, so I can offer you no assistance, I'm afraid. I do love Beyond Belief and The Long Honeymoon, which you mentioned. But, yeah, there's just something off about it for me. And I think you described it quite well. It's missing that punch one expects from the Attractions.
Add me to those calling for Mock Tudor
Bon Scott was good for the time he was there
01- 1970 Tumbleweed Connection 02- 1973 Goodbye Yellow Brick Road 03- 1975 Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy 04- 1976 Blue Moves 05- 1978 A Single Man 06- 1974 Caribou 07- 1971 Madman Across the Water 08- 1973 Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player 09- 2000 The Road To El Dorado 10- 2001 Songs From The West Coast
Synth clutter , how dare you , its brilliant!
Don’t get me wrong, I like their last 2 albums but they’re more like Bryan Ferry albums , the earlier stuff is better and more interesting!
I am not sure if Bon Scott would've lasted much longer anyways. He was good for the albums he made
5. blink-182 4. Green Day 3. Silverchair 2. Motörhead 1. Rush
J❤O❤N❤I❤H❤E❤J❤I❤R❤A
I'd go 1. Blue 2. For The Roses 3. Hejira 4. Ladies Of The Canyon 5. Clouds 6. Don Juan's Reckless Daughter 7. The Hissing Of Summer Lawns 8. Court And Spark 9. Song To A Seagull 10. Both Sides Now 11. Turbulent Indigo 12. Night Ride Home 13. Wild Things Run Fast 14. Mingus 15. Travelogue 16. Shine 17. Chalk Mark In A Rain Storm 18. Dog Eat Dog 19. Taming The Tiger
Really great video. I prefer Give ‘Em Enough Rope to Combat Rock, but I think they’re as good as each other.
' Rock or bust' is a good album, decent songs , bit miffed by that ranking
Think I have to agree with you on Goodbye and although I don't normally support turning double albums into single albums, but in this case a single album would have benefited this one.
5. Linkin Park 4. Evanescence 3. Green Day 2. Heart 1. Aerosmith
Mi lista seria esta: 1) Automatic for The people 2) Green 3) monster 4) new adventures in hi fi 5) lifes rich pageant 6) murmur 7) fables of the reconstruction 8) out of time 9) document 10) Collapse in The now
Why is Country Life at #4 ? That's at least at #1or #2 it's a classic
Flip your top two, and I'm pretty much with you on the rest. Walking on a Wire might be the best song ever written and performed. RT is my second favorite artist of all time, right behind Pete Townshend.
One glaring omission from your list is the Richard & Danny Thompson album Industry which is stunningly good and my favourite RT album
