In crafting "You and Me," drawing on my background as a classically trained pianist, my vision was to surpass the conventional boundaries of traditional music performance and delve into the realm of visual storytelling. This piece unfolds as a visual narrative, seamlessly blending the expressive potency of the piano, synthesizer, vocals, and drums with captivating visuals, resulting in a multisensory experience for audiences. As I shaped the story, it profoundly reflected my personal journey.
At the inception of our music video, a mystical journey unfolds as the protagonist emerges from the depths of the sea, discovering a hidden black agate necklace nestled within a piano-like jewelry box. Infused with the divine spirit, symbolized by tear-stained pages-a clue that first surfaces near the sea-the narrative takes an intriguing turn and summons the other two girls, the street-dweller and the forest inhabitant.
The book that contains the missing page each appears in the sacred confines of a church when the street girl discovers it, becoming a pivotal link in the unfolding story, and eventually appears in the scene of the forest in the coda, resolving into harmony and melting into a single line of longing melody. Guided by the spirit and fueled by the tear-stained revelations, the girl turns to the piano, her fingers dancing across the keys in harmony with the ethereal guidance. The musical progression becomes a manifestation of the spirit's influence, weaving a tapestry of emotions and transcendence. As expressed in the lyrics-' Here I am, every moment, with you, day and night'-embodies a profound spiritual transformation. In this pivotal moment, the soul turns completely to God, transcending time and immersing in an abundant feeling of complete love and infinity.
The beginning of the dream catcher serves as a powerful symbol, embodying the protective embrace of the spirit over the girl, fostering a harmonious connection between them. The dream catcher, like a guardian, encapsulates the essence of the journey and the spiritual guidance that intertwines with the characters' destinies.
As the lens transitions to the street girl, the music adopts a Funky and jazzy tone, played by dissonant chords and liberated accents that echo her internal discord. The deliberate choices of the 'donut with charge,' the incorporation of Hello Kitty, the yellow gloves with manicures and the use of the crystal in our film hold profound symbolism. Hello Kitty's mouthless face serves as a poignant metaphor for the character's inner world, embodying confusion and a persistent sense of loss that continually surfaces, drawing out a profound sorrow. Simultaneously, the crystal within the narrative becomes a powerful symbol; just as a crystal is formed under pressure, extreme temperature ultimately shines; it reflects the character's resilience and capacity to illuminate even in the face of intense internal conflict.
