"07 Honda Shadow Aero Exhaust Mod
I am not a filmogapher by any standard, I just wanted to show the Mod from start to finish so people can actually see what it looks like from start to finish. Hope this helps.

    I want to do this to my 04 Honda Shadow Aero. Should I punch out the caps AND drill or just drill the 1/2 inch holes? I'm seeing differing opinions on this.. I want more sound (for safety) but also don't want to kill my engine.

    I had a ‘09. The exhaust (along with several other mods) is certainly NOT stock

    Something people who gush over "exhaust sound" never think of is that any hack/mod of the exhaust causes a change in the valve's intake or out-flow. The exhaust system produces "back pressure" which has a ratio from valves. Educate yourselves about the valve's intake/outflow before you mess with some hack/hole-punching/stripping of the mufflers. You can mess the tune - air/fuel ratios, sparkplug changes, what-all when you change what a factory engineer designed. Secondly, what is it about making your exhaust louder that you need? It doesn't make enjoyment for others. Why do it?

    I have exact same color on 2014 Shadow Aero, exhaust a bit different , but otherwise identical , mine has fuel injection and drive shaft,guessing you have carbs.I did the mod a while back, did not like the sound , so put baffles back in with contact cement, couple years now, holding fine,I used hole saw ,so was able to reverse it by putting back in with contact cement.your method has no way of easily reversing

    You wouldn’t have to rejet though if your bike is fuel injected instead of carb?

    i have the same bike, 2014. the stock pipes are plenty good for me. I get terrrible headaches from excess noise. I tried to ride with others who go loud. I am out.

    Thank you for that informative video ngavazzo. Have owned Harley Davidsons but to loud now. Looking next year for a VT750. Like yourself, great mod and not to loud for the neighborhood but better sounding than standard. I will be carrying this mod out when I get my bike. Kind Regards. Jay UK

  • @devondickey9222

    Big difference and a gorgeous bike. To anyone asking about re jetting, no you wouldn't have to, even if you took the baffles completely out because there is still a muffler on it. Now if you cut the muffler off or put some Vance and Hines or Cobra's on it then yes you'd have to re jet for carb or re map for EFI hope that helps

    That method works OK, but if you really want the most sound and performance gain without spending 300-500 on aftermarket pipes you have to remove the entire muffler assembly. The best way is to use a grinder and cut right at the factory reducer. After this you can either paint the back chrome with Rustoleum (it will be black) or you can fit a large exhaust tip over the cut like I have now done. I have a video of what it sounds like before I put the tip on. (Sound didn't change, just looks better now) It is essentially now a 2" drag pipe setup. There really isn't anything more to gain from aftermarket pipes except looks. I've added a Dynojet Stage 2 jet kit, the aforementioned exhaust mod, the BeanBox (airbox mod), 4* timing mod and the bike is a totally different animal than when stock. It's still not on par with my K9 GSXR 750, however my mildly modified 2006 Shadow 750 now easily pulls on my cousins 883 Sportster with V&H pipes and is dead even with my neighbors 1100 Shadow with Cobra pipes. Exhaust mod and jet kit alone were worth 3-4 HP everywhere from 3000-6000 RPM with no loss of power from 1500-3000 RPM vs how the bike was stock. That doesn't sound like much power but it's a HUGE difference on a little 745cc Vtwin. I haven't dynoed again since doing the "Bean" airbox mod, but after doing that, the 4* timing mod and tweaking the air/fuel a little more the bike is an animal for a Shadow. Every Shadow owner/fan I've let ride it say they had never felt a Shadow with as much power and response.

    hey bud, can u please post a picture where u drilled the 1 inch holes and also how far do I go to hit the baffles cap. I just don't wanna hit it to far in to damage something. please let me know. I'm waiting to get off work so I can do this mod. Also the rebarb substitute you used, what was the width size? and the name exact name for it if you have it. I will be going to Lowes in my way home. Thanks in advanced.

    • @ngavazzo
      @ngavazzo 8 років тому

      If you read a few post down you'll see that I drilled the 2 holes at least the 3&9 o'clock positions. As for how far to go in I hit went ~1" deep to ensure the cone point of the rod was through and the holes were opened to the full diameter of the rod. The baffles are offset on the inside so don't worry too much about going too deep.

    do you have rejet the carbs?

    • @ngavazzo
      @ngavazzo 8 років тому

      Tyler: I don't think it is necessary to rejet the carb for this. I did rejet it when I finally got the new exhaust, but the increase in flow here doesn't warrant a rejet.

  • @FluxMotivation
    @FluxMotivation 9 років тому

    Will not rejecting the carbs hurt it eventually?

    I have to agree with Matt Malone, you are the only guy that follows thru from start to finish, with this Mod. Excellent job my friend. I have cobra slashcuts on my 1300VTX, but I needed to make my wifes bike ,a 98 Honda 750 Shadow ACE sound better without the huge costs. Well it worked great!!! thanks again.

  • @ngavazzo
    @ngavazzo 9 років тому

    JOHN WRX. I went ahead and rejetted my carb. The manufacturers jets are just way too lean. I don't think it is required though.

  • @ngavazzo
    @ngavazzo 9 років тому

    AXL. all you have to do is make a diamond out of the holes. The 2 original holes are positioned at 12 and 6 o'clock. Drill the 2 new holes at 3 and 9 o'clock.

    will this mod require a carb Re-jetting?

  • @bobbypotts2219
    @bobbypotts2219 10 років тому

    I did this to my 750 Aero about three years ago. It worked out well but tended to whistle at high rpm's and highway speeds. I punched it again with a larger diameter rod and it sounds great! And over the three years, it has gotten better and better. Not sure why, but I am not complaining. I love the stock two-into-one pipe on this bike and didn't want to change the look with new aftermarket pipes. This was a great solution! Great video!
