So, at the end of the film, Malone Hodges makes an appearance and says this home is ready and waiting for you. But when you look up Carmel Realty Company and more specifically, you click on Malone Hodges picture, you see three properties, none of which are the property shown. Why not make it easy for interested parties to find information about the listing?

I’m sure this home has it’s draw for some people. Primarily the address. Otherwise, the I car garage makes it functionally obsolete. The home built in 2015, is very new and well maintained. It looks old on the outside though. The picket fence needs a paint job, or to be replaced. This house is all white inside. Too sterile! Oh well. Address is everything, I guess. I have been to Carmel. It is nice but way too steep. And the downtown is filled with cute little very expensive boutique shops. It has a nice view of the ocean if you are healthy enough to walk down the steep slope to where you can view it. If you want to go to the beach, you have to go even further down. But somehow Carmel has become the place to be. The homes are nice but on small lots. One can get a lot more home for the price somewhere else. And live on land that isn’t as steep as the homes in Carmel. I guess I just see value differently than other people.

You are quite the critic. It is sad when someone only looks for the negatives in areas of life.

@@maryoleary2037 I just see value differently. I cannot understand why people have to buy overpriced homes without views on difficult terrain to say they live in a perceived uppity area. In other neighborhoods people would get so much more for their money. It makes no sense to me. I said the downtown is cute. But the items in the shops are overpriced. I have been to Carmel, California and was surprised at the over hype it receives. I don’t “ALWAYS” look for negatives in areas of life. There is much to complement, just not this home in this location. I am sorry you feel differently. That’s what is awesome about free speech. You’re not one of the people who want to silence those who have different opinions than yours, are you?

@@patriciajohnsonson8639 No of course, I don't want to silence you and yes, free speech is important. However, I try to find positives, rather than pile on negatives. Your comments were not limited to only saying this is an "uppity" area. You also commented on the garage and said the fence needs painting. You said that the inside is all white, making it too sterile...and believe it or not, there are people who like all white. This would not be a house for me, and I agree that better value could be found elsewhere. I guess I was just surprised that someone commented to say they had purchased the home. Then you went on about why this was not a good choice and certainly you rained on their parade.

@@maryoleary2037 I just saw the comment about someone buying the house when I saw your comment about my comment. The people who bought the house obviously liked it and could afford it. More power to them. They shouldn’t care what I or anyone else thinks about the house. If it is the house for them, then good for them. I obviously, honestly don’t have the same taste that they do. They would probably look at the house I live in and think it is gross. That’s fine. I like my house. I live in the plains in the flyover country as the Californians call it. I love the flatland here and that is probably why I was off put by the steep terrain in Carmel. 😄. There were a few other uTube videos of California homes in Carmel and one on precarious rocks right in the ocean in Big Sur(?) that I commented on. I guess it is all a matter of taste and what one considers good value. I would never wish to live right in the ocean in a home built on the rocks. To me, those homes are precarious and not built in safe places, especially given the earth quakes that the Californians put up with. But apparently, some people would love to live there. I think people buy homes in these odd places only because of the status that the purchase will reflect on them. I fundamentally dislike that attitude and probably the reason for me dissing Carmel. They even pronounce it ‘Carmelle’ and not Carmel like the sticky candy that has the same spelling. I wonder why they did that…? Maybe because it sounds more elegant? Putting on Aires. Not my cup of tea, and not something I admire, obviously. But have a great day.

    • @maryoleary2037

@@patriciajohnsonson8639 I live in Canada, nowhere near the sea, but not far from one of the Great Lakes. Variety is the spice of life and all places have pros and cons. FYI: Carmel is correct when they pronounce it Kahr-melle. It is NOT spelled the same as the sticky candy that you reference. The candy is caramel, with an A, and in N. America the candy is often pronounced as KAR-muhl leaving out the A. Carmel by the Sea, in California is named after Carmel in the Bible, a place in Israel, and that is melle, not muhl. I wish you well, but would caution you not to generalize in labelling people uppity, putting on airs, or trying to be elegant, just because they choose to live in a house and a town that is not your choice. Personally I have no urge to live in that house, or that location, but I feel it is wrong to be negative about someone else's choice on a public forum, when you likely wouldn't speak that way to their faces.

I think about $2 million and up for a house. Guessing this one is $3 or $4 mil?? And taxes are about 1.2% of purchase price and they go up about 2 percent a year.

Carmel-by-the-Sea is geographically pretty small and desirable, so these smaller cottage style homes are more expensive compared to them in other areas of CA. Malone sells plenty of them and would be a great person to talk to.
