Echo Smallmouth Bass Kayak Fishing 2020 Hobie Pro Angler Utah
This is some fish that were caught on my last two trips to Echo. It has a bunch of small fish 3-8" on the shoreline. These are some of the better fish I caught with a monster golden goliath grouper at the end.

The picture is a wiper my friend Chris caught that went 27" and around 8 LB's. Biggest wiper I've seen at Willard. These guys are a challenge since they move around day to day. Never seem to catch them in the same spot.

Spend a beautiful October morning chasing cutts and bows. Had the best luck on swimbaits and marabou jigs. The bite was very light most of the day. Kayak had about an 1/8" of frost on it to start the day.

Rude Bass Guys at East Canyon Trout Fishing Utah

A couple of clowns bassin decided to not social distance and came within 20' of me fishing. No apology....didn't say much seeing I had a camera on. Threatened to fight my brother farther down the shore. I was within 35' from shore in 15' of water. Two other boats earlier in the morning ran right up on us at shore and parked within 40 yards. But we never let special people that the world rotates...

Who wants to catch a BIG carp? I usually don't like to admit it but they are a blast to catch. Caught a few nice ones on a trip to Echo Reservoir in UT. Not the best fighters or prized fish but make up for it in size. The mopeds of fish.

It seems like theres not many big ones in there anymore 😕
Thanks for ruining this spot. Lame video btw
Man when I went there last weekend it felt like a wake boat adopted me and just followed me around the lake. Love the lake but might look at wake less options.
These crappie spawn into the month of June at Willard? Or are they earlier like the Midwest?
What is the red jig you were using? Is there a name to it? Hitting the gorge for the first time ever the next bit.
How much to take my 2 sons and I out this July?
Dude.. Get a dang net!
Where did you put in when fishing Henrys?
Sir, I recently found your channel. I live north of Ogden and also fish out of a hobie. For me, all your content is relevant. Looks like I need to get some swim baits, especially for Willard smallies.
I haven’t had much luck at Willard this year. Was skunked the first time and only caught 4 fish in four hours last week. I haven’t tried going after the bass yet.
Boat guy was a complete moron
Must be the same folks cutting me off in traffic. No concern for 'road (water) safety' or even two-car lengths. Most of these guys did about as well in High School Drivers' Education as they were expected to do in life generally. Basically, CLUELESS about such things and wondering why life isn't like their HS Football coach said it would be: MIGHT make RIGHT. Unfortuantly for them they are now employed by the GEEK kids they dispised earier in HS. The best we can hope for is that their confrontational momemt with "The Hulk" in their life will come at a time when we can witness it!
That was a lot of great action for a quick scouting trip!
Love your vids. Question. What rod and reel combos do you prefer. Reel size and brand. Rod size and power etc. thanks man
Hello Paul I like 9’ medium fast rods and use several differential reel brands. I think the biggest help with jigs is using 6lb berkley nano line and about 12-15’ of 6ld fluorocarbon on the end. The nano line cast the farthest and detects the smallest bites. Best of luck on the water.
I live in north Utah, and am a fly fisher. Thinking about getting a kayak with my taxes. What Wt rod and flies do you guys use ?
@5:58 Is the drive noisier than the rotomolded kayaks?
@4:35 Looks like it's 4' long haha
Unbelievable is the right word to express that. They feel like you jumped in front of them or something? You must have sped in front of them on your kayak. 🤣
Bro if your going to catch and release fish do it right.
What part of willard are you fishing
Thank you Brett. I like how you show technique as well as the catching. Well done.
You put out some awesome videos Brett! I have a question for you, you obviously have a good amount of experience fishing from a kayak, how do you feel about a paddle kayak for someone just getting into the sport. I would be fishing in a lot of the same places as you such as Willard bay, Causey, and mantua just cuz those are my local lakes. Anyways I’m on the fence between a paddle kayak or a pedal and need some insight.
Hello Carson. I think paddle kayaks are a great way to go to get into the sport. A simple fish finder and anchor system would be helpful as well. The wind is the biggest issue when you are trying to fish and paddle at the same time. The best part is the how relaxing it is to be on the water and away from the crowds. Best of luck and hope to see you on the water this spring.
@@brettbuttars2792 awesome thank you!
3:05 That's a nice perch!
Videos like this convince me I really need to get up to Bear Lake a few times in 2022. It's always just too far to be convenient, but near enough (and with big enough trout) to make it highly interesting.
Throw in a cd 1018 bar and see what ya get. It has to be 3/4” though
It’s nice to see there’s actual fish in Willard sometimes I wonder. I went 4 times this summer without a fish I must be doing it wrong. Nice video!
Hopefully it’s good with the low water this year. I’m in the skunked club at Willard as well….it can be a tough place.
I know how you feel when people pull right in between you and the bank, no respect at all. And when you call them out that they get butt hurt. Very typical these days..... lol
shouldn't the fly line be retrieved from the bottom of the reel and not the top?
Is that the north side Bay
Wow that looks like an expensive boat. You guys must be pros. I'm barely learning how to fish. It's a fun sport.
Camped and fished here over this weekend. Was dope. We were using rainbow holographic panther martin's.
Those smallies are consistently better than we see at Deer Creek. Nice day on the pond.
We caught numerous 5-10" smallies as well. In a few clear spots I could see 20-30 small bass. Hopefully people throw the nice ones back so it doesn't get over populated with small fish.
Very fun. I had to laugh that the only time you used your net on the first trip was to use it as a paddle to get you away from shore 😜
Always for get something at home and its usually the paddle or the net.
Nice.
Bait?
Brett, I've been watching your videos, great content, I am new to kayak fishing, in fact, im still awaiting my kayak to arrive, should be here this week. Which marina do you like to launch from on Willard? Thank you.
I’ve fished out of both and had success. This video was out of the South Marina. The others have been out of the N Marina. Best of luck with the new kayak.
Massive. Don't see one caught on a fly rod too often either.
Excellent morning. That had to be fun on the fly rods.
You were out there this morning
This was from a couple days ago in the evening.
Are you related to Kent and Craig ?
You need to catch a Aku or Tuna !! Wiper fight hard ! They are fun ! Ocean fish pound for pound tuna species Aku 5 times the fight !! Hawaiian islands !!!!!!
Henry's is so good to fish. Looks like you had a good day.
Hella good work.
Nice wiper! Top off the evening with a good walleye. Nice two day bag.
Toad wiper.
Nice catch. I love catching Wipers, my favorite fish to catch because of the fight. I would like to spend more time at Willard chasing them, but I hate the bugs.
Bubba needs to go fishing
If your ever having difficulty hearing out of that left ear… you just might want to call the mid-wife in and deliver those fry!! 😂
Looked like a killer day! I'm headed to a family reunion there next week abs haven't ever been there, have family from all over the US coming in. Not trying to step on your toes but any tips on locating fish? What depth Or anything else in general. We'll have trolling gear and should be able to jig. Are you guys just jigging deep structure like rock piles? Truly appreciate any help. Thanks.
Hello We were fishing around the area the called the rock pile. It's on the south west side of the lake in 40-50 ft of water. I have never fished mid summer. I have read that trolling works well. I have mainly used 4"-6" tube jigs or spoons tipped with sucker meat. I think early mornings would be the best time to fish. Bear Lake is really hit or miss. Be careful if you see storms or high winds it can get really rough on the lake. They have a community pond in Garden City that is stocked often and would be good for beginners. I have only fished the lake a couple times. Best of luck to you guys.
I hear a freshwater shrimp invasion has made it much harder to catch the fish but you did ok.
I pulled up my anchor a few times and the weeds were full of shrimp. Yep a ton of food.
Those bugs were sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad
