In tribute to the 10th anniversary of the Umbrella Movement, @RickerChoi and I performed a selection of Cantonese songs banned by the Beijing regime, speaking out for unjustly imprisoned pro-democracy activists. These songs epitomize the decade-long peaceful struggle of Hongkongers and Chinese people for democratic constitutionalism, artistic freedom, and a brighter future for the youth.

Ten years after the iconic Umbrella Movement, we now witness a deepening suppression of human rights in the city. Performing these songs could even force artists into exile from their homelands for safety reasons. However, the core values of the movement continue to inspire advocates worldwide, including those from China, like myself. These values center on freedom of expression, which is not just one right among many, but the “predicate” and foundation of all rights.
Empowered by these songs, I began learning Cantonese in 2022 as an effort to connect more deeply with the unique Hong Kong culture. This performance is also one of my efforts to preserve the memories from the indelible city, despite being censored by Chinese authorities.
This Mini Live is also a tribute to the 2019 Hong Kong anti-extradition protests, connecting the HK diaspora community (Sutton Art and Cultural Society) and raising funds for the Bonham Tree Aid.

我與@RickerChoi 的鋼琴人聲二人組表演了一系列被北京政權禁制的粵語歌，作為香港雨傘運動十週年的紀念，為受到不公正監禁的社運倡議者、良心犯發聲。這些歌是港人和華人群體十年來在為尋求表達自由、民主憲政所進行的和平倡議時，常使用的歌，也是這些社會運動的縮影。

在曾經標誌性的雨傘運動發生十年以後，我們見證了一座城市人權狀況的悲劇性變化。甚至連表演這樣的音樂也會令表演者出於自身安全考慮而選擇自我放逐離開故土。但雨傘運動的理念依然在啟發全世界包括像我這樣來自中國的倡議者。這些理念的核心在於：表達自由的權利並不是所有權利當中的一種而已，而是實現人類所有權利所需要的”謂語”和基本路徑。
也因為受到這些歌的啟發，我從2022年開始學習廣東話，希望能與獨特的香港文化有更深的連結。這次演出也是為了保存那些被中國當局審查的、來自這座”不能被磨滅的城市”的記憶。
這次Mini Live同時是為紀念2019年香港反修例示威、連結Sutton香港離散社群（藝文社）、為細葉榕人道支援基金籌款。
