Thank you. So glad I watched. You saved me a lot of time and mistakes. I usually learn trial and error.. The oh oops method.😋. What do you think? Could an additional length be added to the drain hose so water could be caught and reused back into the container as it has the fertilizer etc. Yes, I subscribed. Wish I had found you sooner.💕

@@ranchsailor721 "oh oops" is my favorite way to learn as well...but some mistakes are a pain to rectify (like unstacking a GreenStalk) and others, you might need to wait a year to try again (like oops, I missed the window to plant brussel sprouts seeds!). I think the idea of reusing the water that comes from that hose is fantastic. I have a milk jug connected to it, which is not super effective because it is lying on its side, but if there is a way to navigate the water to a lower elevation, you can definitely collect and reuse! Prevent Bitter cucumbers ⏬ NOTE: This video is not sponsored. Just sharing how this cedarceaft planter from Costco is doing for me! Bitter cucumbers are usually a sign of stress on the plant due to various reasons: Water: Make sure soil is always slightly moist. If you stick your finger in the soil you should feel moisture 2 inches down Temperature: Planting in cool shady spots seems to TRIGGER bitterness...give them full sun. Also, though they love the warm weather, large temperature swings of more than 20 degrees (like when there are heat waves) also seem to cause bitterness in cucumbers. Variety: Some varieties just tend to go bitter more easily than others. The bitterness, caused by a compound called cucubitacin, can give you indigestion and make you burp. Choose burpless varieties! My favorites are Beit Alpha, Itachi (F1) and Armenian cucumber (technically a melon but tastes exactly like a cuke!) What are your favorite varieties to grow?

Nicely done! As I was watching this, I was thinking .. this mix is similar to Gary’s Best Top Pot… LOL then the end confirms it. Gary’s Best Top Pot is hard to find and sourcing the ingredients to do the DIY version is pricey. For my mix I followed RARE DRAGON FRUIT channel’s recommendations to use SunShine Mix #4. I amended with sand and pumice… ratio is 4:2:1 (SunShine : sand : pumice) on the top 10 inches (per Gary’s videos, roots don’t grow that far down). The bottom/lower portion of the container is more like 1:1 (SunShine : sand); it’s more cost effective. SunShine mix is sold at Home Depot and Lowe’s for about $35 / 2.2-3 cu ft. Sand is ~$4 / 50 lbs. Pumice is the tricky one to price. My local nursery is the cheapest I can find that sells 8qt for ~$10. Gary mentioned rice hulls can be substituted for peat moss. His manufacturer said it was too light and blew all over the place, so they didn’t use it in the final Top Pot recipe. Rice hulls are really cheap and sustainable, so I ordered some from Amazon. I’m going to try to incorporate in my rooting pots and future soil amendments.

Most certainly, that is a probability...and very observant of you to notice that. But what I did not mention is that I also planted the bustray variety(Ailsa Craig) in another planter next to the in one in the video - they grew absolutely miserably. I had harvested them all the prior week, since we needed to use some for eating! So I don't think variety is the only reason. But certainly one of them!

@trobinson89 I was thinking about the sunlight as well, the two planters are about 20 ft away from each other. Or it could be that I focused more on ensuring the container was properly watered? There are so many possible factors! But this is not the first time that I had smaller containers do much better. @@Hafsa_sheikh my climate here in California is ideal for saffron - it needs hot and very dry summers when it is dormant, and cool mild winters. You might need to do an internet search for how to grow saffron in Andhra Pradesh. Sorry I can't help much here!

The time to plant the next batch is around the corner. 🙂 Just curious, how did the bulbs from 2023 September do? How have they grown (in size and number)? Would appreciate if you could do another video. My bulbs all grew tiny daughter bulbs (around 8mm size, about 4 to 6 per mother bulb) and the mother bulb shriveled up and disintegrated. I had planted them all in potting soil with a good bulb fertilizer. Wonder what I did wrong. I'm in zone 9b as well.

I will certainly do another video closer to September, just like I did last year. I want to leave at least some undisturbed in the soil for a couple of seasons. But I will be unearthing sonexto see how the bulbs did. So far, my experience has been similar to yours!

@@Dr.Elliott no, they are a Mediterranean climate. Hot long dry summers during which they remain dormant, and short mild winters where the ground does not freeze.

🍑Plum Jam, MAKE THIS, PLEASE!! ⏬ 🍊🍑I continue to find delicious ways to use up all those excess plums from the garden (in our case, from a generous neighbor!) 🍑This jam is probably One of my very best so far! 🍊My recipe is adapted from @seriouseats - doing internet search for "serious eats plum jam", and you should find the original recipe! Here's how I made it: INGREDIENTS: 🍑4 pounds (1.8kg) pitted RIPE plums, unpeeled, cut into quarters 🍑1 1/2 pounds (675g) granulated sugar 🍑1 tablespoon Pectin 🍑2 1/2 ounces bottled lemon juice (5 tablespoons; 75 ml; IF CANNING ONLY) 🍑1 teaspoon (5g) unsalted butter DIRECTIONS 1️⃣ Macerate pitted plums with sugar and pectin, and refrigerate for 8 hours (or upto 24 hours) - Check out my recent short vid on my easy 3-step process to pit a plum) 2️⃣ Freeze a few metal spoons, which will be used to check for done-ness of the jam 3️⃣Cook plums in a large pan over medium heat for about 15 minutes, or until softened 4️⃣ Take out half the plum mixture and mash it through a food processor or food mill. You can also use a hand blender. (Note that this step is optional, and you can skip it if you like your jam quite chunky) 5️⃣ Return blended mixture to the pan and bring back to a boil on medium heat 6️⃣ Now start testing every 5 minutes for doneness by putting a little bit of the mixture in a frozen spoon and returning it to the freezer for about 3 minutes. I like mine a bit runny. And my plums cooked for a total of about 30 minutes. You can cook it longer, and get the thicker jam - but stir constantly, the mixture burns very quickly and the whole thing will be ruined! This was great honestly the tastiest jam I've ever made! I could just sit and eat the whole thing by the spoonful! I'm excited to use it not just with bread, but over ice cream, in salad dressings, to make plum sauce, syrups, the list goes on! Let me know if you tried this, or if you have any other recommendations to use up excess plums!!

EASY PLUM SORBET recipe⬇️ What a great way to use up extra plums from your garden! Though this recipe is worth a trip to the grocery store just to buy the plums! Inspired by @davidlebovitz original recipe! You can search for David Lebovitz plum sorbet on your internet browser to find it! Here's how I made it! 1 1/2 pounds (680g) plums 1/2 cup (100g) sugar, or 1/3 cup (65g) sugar plus 2 tablespoons light corn syrup 2 to 3 teaspoons Grand Mariner or vodka(or any liquor of your choice) a few drops fresh lemon juice 1️⃣Pit plums and cook with skins in 1/2 cup water until soft (check out my video on how to easily Pitt Plums) 2️⃣Add sugar, corn syrup (if using), lemon juice and stir until sugar dissolves 3️⃣Add liqueur and mix well 4️⃣ Blitz till smooth in blender (skins and all) 5️⃣ Place in refrigerator until nice and cold 6️⃣ Pop it in your ice cream maker, following instructions for your machine Scoop and serve - the beauty of it is you can eat it immediately! Store leftovers in freezer! I love this with a scoop of vanilla ice cream to balance out the tartness, but it is perfectly wonderful on its own! Enjoy!!
