Someone should make it canon for old republic lightsabers to have cross guards as a sort of standard issue since that era of Star Wars was pretty much constant battle and Jedi and Sith would see the cross guard as an effective defence

Katanas were displayed how they were worn so longer katanas were displayed edge down because that's how they were worn, but shorter katanas were displayed edge up. This was because larger katanas were used on horseback and it was easier to pull it out with the edge facing down due to the curve. Also, larger katanas were lethal because they were heavier and didn't need to be as sharp so their edge and weight did a lot of of the heavy lifting when it came to taking down an opponent, even if they were armored. Shorter sores were used more for cutting than Cleaving. So they needed to be much sharper and because they were so sharp, the blade need to be facing up as to not damage the saya and as to not dull the edge.

I know the creator of that short you referenced in the beginning of the video. They're commonly known for spreading a lot of misinformation or inaccurate information when it comes to katanas.

I collect mall ninja weapons because they look cool. I collect authentic reproductions as well. I don't really think of mall ninja stuff as weapons. To me they are more like sculptures with sharp and pointy bits. They are for display, or just to have. I don't really think it's cringy unless you carry them in public like you would a real weapon. Actually, I think carrying a real sword in public just as an everyday thing would be cringy. It would be legal in my state, but anyone who does it isn't looking to defend themselves, they're just looking for attention.

Not sure what happened to my older comment, but I will bite again. I am picking a cast iron skillet. It has one hit stopping power and would always pass for a weapon of opportunity with a jury of my peers. On a serious note…where I live perps carry Glocks with extended mags, so defending myself with a sword is an ultimate delusion of grandeur. Should I actually try this - it may even help the perp to get out of charges as my dead self would be deemed a certifiable nut-job.

I really appreciate all the videos you've been making. It's really simple, the romans made aqueducts yet medieval people didn't have clean water or had smelly cold castles. People were way more useful than over now for survival. Generalizing is really boring and getting old.

Yup. I passed through the Mall Ninja phase in the 90s. I still have most of my mall ninja stuff. They just... don't ever get touched anymore. Back then it was a lot harder to get information about swords, and what was good. It wasn't until I got a proper sword that I reached enlightenment. Its probably easier to avoid the mall ninja phase now because of the internet and so many more vendors selling functional swords, but I'm sure a lot of people still experience it. I'm glad I went through the phase though because its fun to laugh about now, and it gives me a greater appreciation of something thats properly made.

I found this video because I was looking for a way to get a safety rope over the 30' peak roof of my house. I decided I wanted to tie twine to an arrow and lob it over then tie my end of the twine to the rope and pull it over. I use a 30 lb recurve bow (I'm a 5'7", 123 lb woman), and the arrow does cross over on my bow. Initially, I had someone holding the spool of twine on a rod so that it would unspool...but that was too much for it. Then I unspooled a large amount (about 50 feet) and laid it in 3 rows, tied it to my arrow and shot it over (making sure to twist my bow wrist away from the line as soon as I shot). It worked perfectly! I think this may be the only practical application for tying anything to an arrow.

Obviously this guy just didn't like the show, and that's fine, but I don't think it gives him any right to criticize the choreography like this. Because some of the things that he's saying are actually wildly incorrect, I almost feel gaslighted watching, like when he says that they're swinging at nothing when I can clearly see them swinging to block or swinging at each other's faces. Two minutes in he says Qimir swings his saber at nothing, but if you actually look at the clip, he brings his saber forward to block Jeckis blow that is coming at his face. Also, we do have to remember at the end of the day this is a CHOREOGRAPHED fight, it is meant to be exaggerated so that it looks more appealing to the eye. If it was meant to one hundred percent resemble actual swordplay, the fights would be a lot shorter, a lot bloodier, and a hell of a lot less exciting to watch. Also the choreographed fights in the Acolyte were incredibly well done, especially for Star Wars, the Acolyte has some of the best fights and saber duels we have ever seen in a galaxy, far, far away. #RenewTheAcolyte #SaveTheAcolyte #savestarwars

This was fun. As hubby and I are trained for real, we have had to laugh when friends find "cool" stuff and think we'd like it. Or worse, when someone seems to think they've watched enough movies and videos to actually call themselves real. 😂 Oh the strange ideas they have. Though I did challenge one friend to get real training, and now he's like five years into it, and his youngest daughter has joined him. She's 13, and has already used her training to rescue someone from a fire and another from two bullies. Proud of her.

This vid is inaccurate in its depiction of iron sands being deposited along river banks. All sedimentary load born by a river tends to drop out along the inside turn or meander of a rive where water velocity is slowed. The outside bend is where water moves faster and erosion is occurring. Man made diversions create similar effect.

For a home invasion I'm definitely choosing my gladius over any of my arming or longswords. Short swords are for sure the way to go in confined spaces. Hallways in particular I'm thinking of, but even in the more open spaces longer blades would be an issue. There is a reason I dont go swinging around my swords indoors. I'm gonna end up smashing them into something.

The helicopter ability doesn't work either from a physics standpoint. There's always an equal and opposite reaction. Because the blades are spinning one way, it would make the inquisitors spin the opposite way. To fix this you would either need a tail boom with propellers pushing against this rotation (hence why helicopters have tail booms) or you would need a 2nd set of counter-rotating blades.

A modern self-defense swrod in my opinion should meet three criteria: 1. ease to be carried around; 2. practical and easy to use in confined spaces; 3. versatile. If we considered bladed weapons in general, my choice would fall on a bayonet, hunting dagger, or wakizashi. If we only talked about SWORDs, to shock of many my choice would be a (well-made) spadroon: quite light and nimble, it has some reach but it's not cumbersome, it can cut and thrust decently, and coming with a steel scabbard could be also used as a blunt non-lethal object. But the gladius is also a good choice, since technically still counts as a sword.

The technology of the time of the crossguard lightsaber was a little different, they didn't use full on space ships at the time as far as manufacturing goes, they used astroids and moons to travel interstellar. All lightsabers are ancient to some extant as they're no longer used at this time as a main weapon. Star wars is actually a childs story based on the Orion constellation and an ancient war there that we still feel today. Our inner astroid belt is the left overs of a destoyed planet in that old war over Sungates (naturally occuing stargates within Stars).
