Not my favourite rendition. She has a lovely voice, and it's a lovely song, but she makes it too dreary. I see this song in a totally different light. The house is Miss Honey's first step into independence, her first huge step away from Trunchball and her past. The lyrics scream healing and hope after neglect and cruelty, and Alison misses all of that and portrays it as self-pity. I prefer a Miss Honey, who learns, through Matilda, to fight the creatures under the bed each night. This is HER house, HER choice, the start of HER life. She says very clearly that there is nowhere she would rather be. I just prefer that interpretation. Self-pity leaves me cold, it is triumph over adversity which really brings tears to my eyes.
