Changing The Front Spindle '05 Ford Ranger
I drove for too long with a bad bearing so it melted to the spindle. Bought a new steering knuckle but none of the holes were tapped for bolts so I decided to just change the spindles out.

Cut the heavy rock music, mate. It's an annoying distraction. Apart ftom that, nice work and well presemted.
@@willcram8350 lol yes! Your correct! I don’t have music in any of my videos anymore. I was shy back then but have since gained my confidence to talk on camera. Thanks for watching it and I hope you just muted it.
Thanks for the video was just curious on the process. Mine is cracked at the same exact spotbthats is wild.
@@clayornelas7537 your welcome man! If my videos help just one person, it’s worth it! Yea, it was kinda a pain but it is what it is 😂

@@bensears7499 that’s awesome to hear man! Post pics of your build when you get started!
Very helpful. Had my ranger for 22 years and hopefully many more. Only missed the first two years of it's life so I can be fairly certain there is no tape on my PCV valve, lol. Makes me wonder what people do to their cars/trucks.
lol yea, buying used cars is always a risk. Ive seen some weird stuff over the years lol
Good detail even with no dialogue!
I appreciate that! I was more shy about talking in my videos back then. I have since quit doing videos with music and now I explain everything as I'm doing it. Thanks for watching man!
Nutserts work great no welding
That is a great idea! Didn't even cross my mind lol
Hi mate. I have a 451 in the UK and have stripped her down to the Tridion cage to check everything and just touch up any spots that look like they're prone to rust. I then Waxoyled everything inside and below to protect against future corrosion. It was my wife's car and she passed away from a brain tumour last year so it will hopefully be my forever car in memory of her. Ignore the naysayers in the comments. I thought I knew the Smart 451 intimately but you made some very useful comments like the method of removing the airbox... great tip. Your videography is fine my friend, raw and not fancy but full of content just as I like it. I have one question. You clearly have mechanical talent, why did you not just rebuild the engine instead of getting a scrap yard one with presumably no history? Thanks again for your video and channel. Subscribed! ❤
hello man! thanks for watching my channel! your awesome! I am so sorry for your loss, I have a vehicle that my late sister owned and I'll never get rid of it. Thanks for giving me encouragement, I was still shy about talking in my videos back then which is why its all crappy music lol I have since achieved more confidence and I do not use music anymore. I would like to do this again with much more detail sometime but who knows if that opportunity will rise again. I bet you get more rust where you are than I do here. I live in Arkansas. I did not rebuild the engine because this is my uncle's car and it was his choice to go this direction with it. Mainly a time issue. I do still have the engine and am thinking of rebuilding it someday. I just have a lot on my plate right now. I have a 3D Printing side business as well as a full time job now. Actually another channel also to make videos for so I am pretty much tapped out! lol www.youtube.com/@innovative3d76 The scrap yard I use is called LKQ and I have bought many transmissions and engines over my life and they are reliable. It was about the same cost of rebuilding it anyway lol. Thanks again for watching and subscribing! I wish you the best of luck in life! Take care mate!
Have you had a consistent p0420 code since replacement? I have. I just found a small leak where the cat joins the exhaust pipe (the part at 10:30 where you say you put new bolts) Any recommendations? Is there a gasket in between the cat and the exhaust pipe before screwing in the 2 bolts?
Hey! thanks for watching my video! no, I did not have any code after replacement and code clearing. Yes, there is a gasket in between the connection. Should be available at any parts store or amazon.
Great beard, James!
Thank you!!
Ebay has great prices on catalytic converter for Ford Fiesta SE 2011-2018. Got mine for $68
Thats a great deal! I'll store that in my memory for future projects
Looks like a big job, can't wait to see the rest of it.
It is a big job!!! I have spent countless hours on it over 2 years but unfortunately the old man that owns and was funding it is in poor health and decided to stop work on it. I am very disappointed about it. It would have cost around 50,000 to complete this car and he could have just bought a running one for around 10-15 thousand but he wanted this restored because it was his high school car. It sat in a barn for 40 years before he started the restoration which is why it was going to cost so much to finish. The paint job would cost 20-25 thousand alone.
Never use aftermarket, esp for the thermostat. I know it's old, but if that thing closes on you, and you don't know what your doing, good bye best truck ever!
Ok Thanks
Just get the AVS outside ones with 3m tape........easy installation and looks GREAT!!!!!
@@kevinspahr6632 there is nothing wrong with the ones that stick to the outside, ive had several. I just wanted to try these out.

Wondering how you got the wood untwisted
@@ricklee827 we took a 4-5ft piece of lumber and screwed it to the side of the post. Then I pulled on it while my brother screwed the 2X10 runner to it. Wasn’t perfect but it’s done lol. I’ll have the full video out soon. I still need to edit it.
Still going strong 2 years later
lol Wood is amazing stuff!
Looking good
Thanks!
not that it makes much difference but the factors nuts that holds sensors are a one time use, they are made out of a hardened lead with a slit in it, so when you tighten it down it spreads the nut slightly and holds on to stud, can be used one time correctly, tho you can reuse, but you wont have the holding concept of the nut.
That’s great information! I wasn’t aware of that, thanks for educating me about this.
@@jamesofalltrades479 I believe a nut and a good lock washer would do just as well, at Toyota they cost 5 bucks each.
@@charlesmiller7861 I think you’re correct, good idea!

Gotta love Toyota's simplicity! Keep it Stupid Simple!
Right!? Very seldom do I not like working on this truck.
Thanks, helps keep my little Taco going for a bit longer!
lol It will last for 500,000 miles!!!! If people would only learn to just take care of their vehicles, it would surprise many how long it will last.
@jamesofalltrades479 I had a scan gague tell me my coolant was fluctuating 190 one minute to 230 the other before the needle moved and j turned the truck off to save it before it started to boil. Knew it was the thermostat not opening and closing correctly and fixed her next day no issue overheating now. Clear easy video to follow and easy ahh fix
@@JohanAguilar-kk9sp I’ve never used a scan gauge before, that sounds cool! Usually it’s just stuck open or closed. Happy to help!
They work!
Fun fact, the posts will last longer if you just pack the columns with gravel and tamp them well. It allows for drainege and for things to expand and contract and it works very very well compared to concrete
That makes sense. I’ve never seen that way before. I’ll have to check out that method.
@jamesofalltrades479 yeah its surprising, the "friction" holds it in place its damn near impossible to budge or pull out once that gravel is packed in there. Cheers!
Only good weather while building.
lol we got lucky!
Looks great!
Thanks!🙏
Did you have to shorten the axle at all? Or run spacers?
The only modification I had to do is adjust the leaf spring mounts location. It is almost the exact same width as the original rear end. I think there was a 1/4-1/2in difference in total width but it didn’t affect the wheels fitting.
Do you use/sell the wood?
I will use it in my wood stove this winter. I love the heat from a wood fire better than the gas furnace.
Thanks man!!! Customer wants me to do this job on the ground lol😅
You’re very welcome! Good luck on the ground, I’m sure it’s possible. I’m just blessed to have a lift now.
Why not use nails?
There is nothing wrong with nails and we could have but we wanted a stronger connection because there is a lot of wind up on top of the hill where we built this. I’m sure nails would have been perfectly fine, just a personal choice. I’ll probably never do it again though lol took more time for sure!
@@jamesofalltrades479 I was always under the impression that nails were stronger than screws. I asked about nails because I didn’t know anyone that framed with screws specifically because of sheer strength. Were you using some kind of structural screw?
@@MrSpatia I know that nails have a sheer strength of 250lbs, not sure about screws. This is the first time I’ve used screws on a house. I build all my small building out of screws though like sheds, chicken coops, dog houses, stuff like that. You just need to make sure it is square when assembling because with screws, stuff doesn’t want to move after assembly. Just because of the time factor I will probably never use screws on a whole house again otherwise I feel like it’s stronger.
@@MrSpatia the screws I used were outdoor 3in decking screws. T-25 bit
@@jamesofalltrades479 Not for nothing but decking screws don't meet code for where we live (Alberta - Canada). You cannot frame with them here.
Make sure you disconnect the positive lead on your battery before starting work. This prevents possible shorts.😊
Good advice
This area is so cute and perfect!!! Motivating me to try and get back into gardening 🫶🏼🫶🏼
Your sweet! Thank you! I’m blushing a little bit 😂 I hope it does motivate you to do a garden! If everyone would grow food, we could trade with each other instead of giving our hard earned money to corporations that are poisoning us anyway!
@@jamesofalltrades479 Awee yay! I’m hoping to get into it within the next year 😩😭 cause honestly you’re right! I just wanna live simply and through my own means
@@maliaswett6199 You can do it!! We all can! I working on getting my farm going also! just about done with all the clean up and am getting ready to start building fences!
Does the plastic poison the food?
Great question! As long as the plastic that your using wasn’t used for anything hazardous, you shouldn’t have any issues.
Very helpful. Thank you.
