Σχετικά με την ασσυμετρία των ματιών, την τόσο γοητευτική, ξέρουμε για την δυτική τέχνη των πορτρέτων ότι θεωρείτο σημάδι ευγενικής καταγωγής και ομορφιάς σπάνιας γι αυτό και πολλά πορτρέτα βασιλικά έχουν αυτό το στοιχείο. Ωστόσο πολλά είναι μεταγενέστερα των εικόνων αυτών, οπότε δεν μπορούμε να ξέρουμε αν όντως υπάρχει κάποια σχέση επιρροής. Το έργο σου εξαιρετικό, υψηλής αισθητικής και αρτιότητας.

Σας συγχαίρω κύριε Αντώνιε για το έργο αυτό. Και εγώ τώρα είμαι σε φάση να φτιάξω την ίδια εικόνα. . Περνάμε ως αγιογράφοι το ίδιο δίλημμα, δηλαδή, το πώς αντιγράφεται μία τέτοιου πρωτότυπο? Κάθε πινελιά και αλλάζει η μορφή του χριστού, δεν μένει η εικόνα ίδια. Μεγάλο το μάθημα αυτό, και όπως είπατε και εσείς είναι μία περιπέτεια θεολογική, μία πνευματική καλλιέργεια. Να είστε καλά για το βίντεο αυτό, με βοηθάει αυτο πάρα πολύ.

Amazing icon. Do you think that one should have mastered the Cretan way before attempting this more painterly approach?

The fathers at the St Katherine's monastery, when he gave us a tour of the monastery, explained the big difference in the eyes. It has to do with the Encaustic method of preparing the icon and the summer heat. Apparently the wax-based paint melted over time making the left eye more droopy than the other side. Air conditioning solved the problem, but in the old days there was no way to prevent heat from keeping the wax from melting. That's exactly how he explained it. This is my favorite icon of all and you did a great job at copying it. Amazing, underpainting at its best.
