    Why did they do this? Is it an attempt at making it feel unreal or uncanny, or was it just a cost-cutting measure to avoid filming on location?

    It's really stupid, why go to all that trouble when it would have been quicker and easier to shoot this scene on a real street? It doesn't make sense.

    I can't help but wonder if things really truly got that bad & nasty between Sherwood and Reed. I knew Reed wasn't happy and did have arguments with Sherwood, but did it really get to shouting matches and insults??

    I can remember seeing a preview of the Brady Bunch in TV Guide. I was so drawn to those pictures and couldn't wait to see the first episode. I can't remember having to mow the lawn before it came on. I was 10 at the time.

    Shows what a good actor Bob was. Never would have known how much he hated the show. But it's like any job. Just do the work and get paid. He over re-acted.

    Ok, I have to say it...I loved Robert Reed but I am a little confused on why he thought the orange hair episode was so ridiculous he could not do it. IMO there were several over the top episodes especially in the last season. My personal least favorites is Peter finding an "identical twin" who not only looks but also talks exactly like him though they are of no relation. That was too much even for me and Im great at suspending disbelief for the sake of entertainment. Its comedy so of course its not going to be logical. I thought the orange hair was less absurd than many of them, as I have heard of "accidents" with hair products and get rich quick scans do happen. Not trying to pick but just seems weird that this particular episode was the final straw for him

      @ladylin1992 4 дні тому

      I just find it rich that he so bitterly complained about the last season being over the top but then willingly signed on to do the hokey variety show that was way more out there than anything you saw in the final season

    Sad, but I think it was good that Brady Bunch ended when it did, while it was still good. Too many shows stay past their prime until they become an entirely different show. With Bobby and Cindy no longer cute little kids and cousin Oliver introduced the show was already becoming different but still watchable. Also how would they have handled that Greg was graduating high school and it had already been assumed hed go away to college (the attic episode) so his role would have most likely been somewhat smaller. With all that, if they tried to go on without Robert Reed, it would not have survived long.

    I wonder if Robert Reed ever thought about anyone other than himself? His actions not only affected him but everyone involved in the series including those behind the scenes. The series could have gone on longer if he would have just humbled himself and done his job. This is what an ungodly sinful culture does to people! Me me me!

    In 2001 (filmed in the ‘60s) Kubrick used a way more sophisticated form of front projection for the landscapes in the “Dawn of Man” sequence. It was far more realistic than old school rear projection as in EWS. I think the effect that rear projection creates here is to distance the subject from his environment, which reflects the dream like nature of the whole film. Sorry if someone’s already said this!

  • @christoph404
    @christoph404 5 днів тому

    the lighting makes this work, the coloured lights from the shops he is passing appear to illuminate his face, and the colours of the light landing on his face change in sync with the changing colour of the lights in the shop fronts as he appears to move along the street, that is what gives the convincing effect of movement along a street, it is very well worked out. Very often rear projection is from a bigger projection print, sometimes 70mm, there is less grain and it looks more three dimensional.

  • @johnlow810
    @johnlow810 5 днів тому

    Fascinating and genius technique I never even noticed, but anyone know why they did it? I'm guessing the cost of filming on location and not being able to move all the gear down the street.

    this is why cgi will never match practical effects, this just looks misterious and perfectly executed, you may think that its a perfectly timed camera on a cart but instead is this amazing and simple trick directly from the mind of a legend like Kubrick.. hiper-realistic CGI will always be just some bored random guy on California writting some code on a $10k workstation..., zero charm and soul and extremely expensive

  • @SnepperStepTV
    @SnepperStepTV 5 днів тому

    practical effects are always better. either they're hilarious or they're impossible to detect- literally no downside. they're even wayyyyyyy cheaper than cgi and digital compositing ever can be.....

    I always thought the final episode was one of the better ones. I'm not sure it was the episode itself though, I think Robert Reed had reached a point where he just didn't want to do it anymore, but he was conflicted because he loved the kids so much. This was well done, it gave some great insight behind the scenes.
