Hey uh I have a question on being a flight surgeon if you don't mind me asking a few question as this might be a career Im interested in pursuing as I'm thinking of getting the hpsp scholarship program. 1. Can any kind of medical degree can become a flight surgeon? 2. Can dental surgeon who has either dds ( doctor of dental surgery) or md/dds ( medicine doctor/ doctor of dental surgery) degree become a flight surgeon? 3. Can a flight surgeon specialize more on aviation and flying jet later on if he choose to do so ? 4. Can a doctor after finishing his medical residency in his college and apply to be a flight surgeons? These are things I really want to know and thanks for reading my comment and I hope to hear from you soon :)

A patch kit and pump and a couple of liters of electrolytes and you will be fine. Bikepacking gets me every time for the first couple of days. Heavy load, dirt trails and steep climbs in the heat. I feel your pain!!!

Recently completed this ride myself in one day. Fortunately did not experience any cramping and had an overcast day to work with. Loved the video as it brought back great memories and sites along the way. I too sat on that same "lemon" bench in the heart of lemon growing country. The last time I rode any distance like this was back in college in the early 80's while riding around Lake Washington in the Seattle area.

Do flight surgeons solo after flight school? Also, did you choose helicopters or was that assigned? ⚓️

Ive been on 2 without package and spent more than the package would have cost and I was drinking cheap beers and even getting buckets to get a little more savings. I always get the package now. Just six $10 drinks breaks you even (not including the non alcoholic stuff) and then Im drinking better drinks instead of restricting to cheap beer everytime. Also, if you dont like a drink you got you can just leave it and get another without hesitation because it is already paid. I also like the idea of if you're not going to hit the limit to grab some drinks and put them in your fridge for the next day, might try that next time because there's usually a day or 2 Ill be short the 15 then the next day Im cut off and would like a few more. Maybe, order the fridge drinks with no ice then add ice the next day when you're ready, or unopened beer.

how would a civilian who is a family medicine doctor go about becoming a flight surgeon? do they give the required training when you sign up to be a navy doc or would they try to push you to do just clinic?

Not cutting LVADs lol, I was curious can the Navy use Neurosurgeons? I could only imagine the amount of pts prone to TBIs.

I’m a former US Naval Flight Surgeon graduated in 1980 and served with CAG-6 onboard USS Independence (CV-62) from 1980-1982. Im wondering what aircraft the current Flight Surgeon students fly as part of their training ( probably the new T-6II?) and do they solo like we did in the T-34C?

My friend is a retired Navy Capt who was a Flight Surgeon. So I guess that means he supervised a bunch of Flight Surgeons. Really a great and fun guy. Good fisherman too! That's our common activity. Good luck in you career.

I'll be sailing on the Carnival Glory in Sept on a 7 day, out of New Orleans. I bought the Cheers package recently, $495. My liquor preference tends to be vodka. I'm not a heavy drinker (alcohol wise), so I can't see coming close to the 15 drink daily max. Any suggestions on what alcohol based drinks to possibly get, that would do a good job of eating up the $70/day expenditure? aka the "biggest bang for the buck"..per drink.

Not only “2 free drinks a day” but not having to worry about the hassle of continuing having to put more money in ur sail n sign card. Also if u were getting top shelf liquor it wouldve been more without the package rather then everytime u order a drink with the package u get the best of the best with no worries.

In our country, LGBT people are not allowed to serve in military which is big set back. Is it possible to serve in as flight surgeon in US?

Doc- extremely impressed with your hard work and dedication. When you’re my age you’re going to be in such an amazing place in life. You really made the right choices. I wish I’d taken your path. What would you say to someone who will be going into Med school later in life (38 years old)? I’m not really worried about being away from friends or family, in fact I lost my wife last year and I feel like this could give my life some meaning. I have nothing holding me down.

Great video! I served as a Naval Aircrewman on P-3C's. We had very cool flight surgeons. I remember being on deployment to Puerto Rico & my roommate was banging girls left & right - well he thought he got crabs, so he had to visit the doc. When he got back to the room later he had some stuff in his hand and I asked what it was. He told me that it's some shampoo & a super fine comb for crabs - but said he DOESN'T have crabs - the doc just gave it to him for precaution. The next day the doc came on one of my flights & just as I made it to the top of the ladder the doc says "Hey, are you roommates with so & so?" I said yeah, why? He told me to wash all my bedding, stay away from him, etc. I told the doc "He told me he doesn't have anything & you just gave him the comb & shampoo for precautionary reasons." He responded with "Yeah, umm I don't give that out for just precautionary. He has crabs." I told him that my buddy had the top bunk & I was bottom. He told me that those crabs are "paratroopers" - they'll leap down below into my rack, etc. So when I got back from my flight I questioned my friend again (& he still lied about it). That's when I told him I was on a flight w/ the doc & told me the truth. Liar. What do you expect though when your bringing strippers from Papa Joe's back to your room at least one night a week? Best deployment out of the three I made (Sicily, Puerto Rico then back to Sicily). And by the way, thank you for your service.
