Shrub Pruning 101 With Doc
Learn the basic principles of shrub pruning with Fossil Creek Nursery's very own Bonsai professional, Doc!
* Now is the perfect time to prune, as leaves and blooms will inhibit your visibility. Illnesses are also less prevalent this time of year.
* Much like humans, dull or unclean cuts can cause infection and disease. Always make sure your tools are clean and sharp- you wouldn't want your surgeon using a rusty scalpel!
* Always make sure you understand the natural shape of the plant before you start cutting.
* Know your nodes! Never cut in the internode, as that will lead to unsightly branch death.
* Prune branches that are ununiform (leggy), or branches that are growing back into the plant or into the ground.
* Lastly, a plant is a living thing! Embrace it's natural shape.

      Hello! There is one at CSU in Fort Collins, their link is agsci.colostate.edu/soiltestinglab/ However, there are some local business in Boulder that could test it, such as the Lawn Doctor www.lawndoctor.com/longmont-co/soil-testing/

    Hi! Today’s date is 10/19/22. I live here in Northglenn, Colorado and was preparing my lawn today to Over-seed if tomorrow or Friday, but wondering if it is now too late in the Fall to do it? Can you please tell me you think it is too late, and if so what would be the best time come Spring time to do it? You’re response would be greatly appreciated... Thank you!

    • @FossilCreekNursery
      @FossilCreekNursery 2 роки тому

      Hello! We don't recommend seeding at this time of the year. It is best to seed in the spring when you can see other people's yards start to break dormancy. This means whenever your neighbor's grass starts to green up again. This typically occurs around mid to late April or May, depending on the weather.

      @@FossilCreekNursery Following speaking with a local Gardener I ended up over seeding last weekend along with laying down Organic compost / manure prior to the seed, and have been watering twice daily and will do so for a couple more weeks. Hoping for a good outcome....

    Go Dan! Remember that the person who plants a tree way too close to the house and says, "I'll be dead" when it gets mature size will have their names cursed for generations when future owners have to deal with their "decision,"

    What is your take on push mowers?

    • @FossilCreekNursery
      @FossilCreekNursery 2 роки тому

      We love push mowers! It's a great tool because the grass clippings that are left behind are actually one of the best fertilizers for your lawn! We recommend keeping your grass to about 3-4 inches long. With this length, your lawn will be more heat tolerant, less susceptible to insect/disease damage, and it assists in controlling weeds!
