Installing Massive 6 Piston Porsche Brakes on my Wagon! (Mk4 Jetta/Golf 17z Brembo Big Brake Kit)
In this video I will be showing you start to finish how to do a Porsche Brembo 17z Big brake swap on your mk4 Jetta or golf FRONT ONLY *may be applicable to some mk5*. I also show where and how to get ALL the necessary parts, how to properly clean, refinish, and rebuild the calipers, and finally how to properly fit them onto your VW. If you don't want to watch the whole video here is a short breakdown of everything you'll need and a step by step in writing of how to do this swap. If you have any questions drop a comment or dm me on instagram @miner_garage and I'll respond asap. Let me know what you want to see me do next on my mk4 tdi wag

1. Remove original caliper, rotor, and brake line
2. install 17z adapter bracket with red Loctite
3. angle grind off excess threads off of original caliper bracket bolts with them fully installed and torqued. make sure it is flush or shorter than the wheel speed sensor hub
4. clean wheel bearing mating surface and apply anti-seize
5. Install Stainless brake line to original hardline mounted on the wheel well.
6. Install 17z brake caliper with red Loctite and torque bolts
7. attach new brake line to the back of the caliper and tighten it down. make sure to not over tighten or round these off. Just snug them
8. clean off new rotor with brake clean and install it with set screw if you still have it.
9. grease new brake pads on the back side and edges everywhere it makes contact with anything to avoid squealing.
10. install brake pads and tighten bracket
11. splice the old brake wear sensor wires together to avoid getting a light and tuck it up somewhere safe.
12. bleed calipers from outside passenger side to inwards and make a few rounds until the fluid is completely bubble free.
13. install spacers and torque wheels
14. bead in brakes by doing 4-5 hard stops 60mph-10mph making sure not to lock up the brakes but braking very hard. this ensures the brakes are evenly broken in.
15. for the first few hundred miles there will be a ton of excess brake dust so just note that, but after that it gives next to none!

In this video we install a PD150 Intake Manifold and 57mm race pipe EGR delete from Darkside Development on our 2005 Jetta Wagon with the 1.9 TDi BEW motor. The purpose of us installing this was to delete all of the failed diesel emissions components that are over 20 years old and have 330K miles! This Freed up a ton of airflow because the PD150 motor this intake manifold came off of is much mo...

This is our second video on our 1989 Toyota Cressida build. Check out part 1 to get up to speed! In this video we re-built the top end of the stock 7M-GE motor. We used ARP head bolts to prevent the head gasket from leaking ever again as these motors are infamous to. We got it started with little to no issues, and had to bleed the extremely squishy brakes to get it road worthy. The old fuel did...

I appreciate the detail, great video!
great video!
Wow, I thought you had to get the whole friggin dash apart to access these! Nice job
Yeah it’s easier than people on the forums say it to be. Just gotta pull out the glove box, kick panels, and the radio trim stuff and you have access to the box
Cameraman did a great job on this one 😊
Great video! I've been thinking about deleting mine and installing a PD150 intake. A couple of questions. Did you notice any MPG change? Had any problems since you did it? Would it be worth doing without a tune? Does it take longer to warm up. Thanks!
Appreciate it man! Yes my MPG definitely improved but that may be due to the tune I got as well. I’ve had 0 issues what so ever and did this almost 8 months ago now. And this is with me driving 700 miles a week. Definitely would recommend getting a tune so the car can run as happy and healthy as possible. You’ll also get a check engine light so a tune would remove that. I got mine for around $300 from tunezilla and it was extremely simple and runs perfect with no hiccups. And yeah takes a bit longer to warm up since the hot exhaust gases aren’t getting poured into the intake but it’s kind of the trade off with doing an egr delete. You can always get a dynamic egr that shuts off after the car is warm to get the same benefits without the hassle of long warm up times
@@minergarage Thanks! Really helpful info. I've been researching the delete, and if you look at the forums, everyone has conflicting opinions. Glad to hear about some actual results. Thanks again, I subscribed.
@@minergarage Also, I forgot to ask, what kind of exhaust do you have. It sounds awesome 😎
@@bullardfarms yeah no one can ever make their minds up on the forums haha. VW dudes are always so stubborn. Rly just do whatever you think is best as long as there’s not an overwhelming amount of people saying not to is what I’ve found doing stuff to my vw’s
@@bullardfarms full 2 1/4 straight pipe all the way back. 3in sounds way better but you lose some back pressure in turn lowering efficiency and turbo spool times
I don't know anything about cars but still watched the whole thing
lowkey my favorite new channel, keep it up!
Appreciate the support man! More cool vw videos in the works rn!

This has helped me so much! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A couple things: An ALH is not a PD (Pumpe Duse) ALH has an injection pump just like the newer common rail diesel. BEW, BRM, B5.5 Passat BHW and V10 TDI Touareg (engine codes for the US market) do not have an injection pump. The injectors have their own injection unit pump. Hence the name pumpe duse which literally means pump injector in German. The other thing, it is extremely dangerous to be driving with a flashing airbag light. It is ok to drive with the airbag light on solid. The airbag module will fire the airbags what it can with it's ability. The flashing light is a ticking time bomb waiting to fire anything at anytime. If that happens your car will be totaled and it would suck to have all that money and time put into a great jetta wagon with one of the best engines VW has made. I was a VW tech for 21 years and still drive an 05 Golf BEW
finally someone whos not just beating on their wonderful TDI that we'll never get again in north America thanks too the trash epa
Laughs in Common Rail
@@avenged06x see you have the tdi black face😂
@@minergarage hahahaha
lol I have a common rail FBO cr170 Full charge pipes custom written tune data logged tune . Inlet pipe . Intake . Tons of mods but my alh is way faster . It’s a Gtx 11 blade wheel on the turbo and it spins at 40mph 😊
that makes a future turbo upgrade easy !
@@mrngreenthumb for real! Gets all that egr bullcrap out of there
Quick question are you getting more turbo noises due to deleting the Auntie shutter valve or upgrading the manifold? Or do you think it could be a mix from both?
@@theskateboardt619 i definitely get more induction noise and turbo spool at idle from the intake manifold/egr delete. The anti shudder valve gave me the jet spool down when I turn it off, def my favorite part of this whole thing and the coolest sound ever
My main question is I don't want CEL on. Will the tunezilla remove it?
@@travcool1991 yes it will, you have to select whatever you do(in this case the egr delete) and it’s as easy as that.
Holy fawg that is clean bro
am i tripping or is your belt put on backwards??? 😵💫 19:29
I thought that too when I first got it lol, the belt is just ribbed on both sides
man i just subscribed cuz i need to do the exact same thing to my bew, this video will help a ton thx bro!
Thanks for the sub! Good luck with the install man, if you need any advice or anything message me on our insta @miner_garage
Hey so I just did this to mine and where did you reposition your turbo actuator because on mine it was mount to the intake either
@@griffinroscher you should not have to mess with the turbo actuator to do this. If you wanna send a pic to my my insta is @velo_n_aiden I would be happy to give my advice on what to do
I just got an 04 golf bew I have no boost until 2.5k rpm’s then it will spool and roll coal, kerma tune. Think my turbo is going bad
@@RUDD_TDI there’s a possibility it could be your turbo. I would check you have no boost or vacuum leaks before ruling out your turbo. Especially if all the tubes and hoses are original bc they get super brittle from coolant and oil leaking on them over time. Also does your car make a slight thump thump and shake a little bit at idle? Could be your cam going bad. To check your turbo take off the turbo inlet pipe and feel the turbine to see if it has any play. Also look for any crazy oil leaks or a ton of white smoke out the exhaust. You’ll know really quick if your turbo is bad it won’t just sneak up on you
@@minergarage I don’t see any boost leaks. at idle if I rev it hard there’s some white smoke. no shaking at idle I think my cams good, idles good. But the turbo does spool just not until 2.5k rpm. Then I was going highway speed and it threw a P0299 under-boost code then I had no boost. Probably going to just get a new stock turbo from ebay and that dark side air intake manifold and redo all vaccumn lines
@@RUDD_TDI hmmm yeah sounds like turbo. You can get vnt15’s cheap or for a few hundred more you can get a vnt17(from the pd150 motor) and make more power reliably without a tune but a ton more with a tune
@@minergarage hey man another question. So I fixed my boost issue. I have mine tuned and deleted and full straight pipe from turbo back. When I’m driving I roll a lot of coal but at idle I don’t roll any coal at all. Is there a way to roll coal at idle? Maybe just evry mod it instead of tune?
@@RUDD_TDI you won’t roll any coal while simply idling, but when you rev it at idle but it in first and hold the e-brake, release the clutch a little bit while giving it gas and you’ll roll hella coal. Obv not great for the clutch but a cool party trick. I wouldn’t do the every-mod, it’s super inefficient and pointless. Just get pd150 injectors and an adjust your tune a little and you’ll roll a ton more coal all around. Rolling coal is a bad thing in the tdi vw world to the purists that care about economy because it means your motor is using wayyy too much fuel and not getting enough air. For the 1.9’s it means your cam is either worn or needs to be upgraded to let more air in. Or your tune is dook. But us tdi hooligans want the opposite lol
I was expecting to see this vid being like 5+ years old and I had to look at the date twice to see if this was really recent. Great video bro. I just got a 04 Jetta bew and doing so much digging before actually buying everything to do the delete.
Good stuff keeping the 1.9 bew alive! I spent months researching and debating on what to do and this was the absolute best option I found. 2k miles later I’ve had no issues at all and motor is running amazing with 50-55mpg! If you have any questions lmk🫡🫡
Oh man, you payd 180, for a device you could use 30 and you could change maps as much as you want. Also you can do multimap on your ecu, good old edc15. Had them my self, also many friends, and we have tuned the shit out of them and they go so good still :)
I went with the tunezilla bc I used it on our 2.0 cjaa tdi and have never had any issues and it feels amazing. Also love the ease of use from tunezilla because tuning is not in my field of expertise, and they make it super simple
I put a turbo and injectors on my BRM with 280k miles that are rated to hit 240hp (I doubt its fully there but that is the peak they claim) so I would not be too worried about your engine as you mentioned around 8:20. 130hp should be no struggle for your engine and should still last 500k miles or more if you treat it right. Good shit man!
Sheeesh 240hp would be nice haha. What turbo and injectors did you go with? I’m looking at upgrading to the GTB1756vk or GT2052V, but I really have had no luck finding injectors more than anything
Also my motor is leaking oil from every gasket and seal lol…so I’m going to tear it down and rebuild it
I went with the GTB1756v (the one I got does not fit the bew) from darkside, and the pd150 injectors (only rated at 230hp so I was off a bit) and as for the oil leaks mine is starting to spring up a couple of small leaks that I know are going to be pretty bad in the coming years. Hopefully by then I save up to do a full rebuild of the motor with some built parts and can give it a refresh.
@@acannia heck yeah man! Unless if you have rod knock, which is unlikely, I wouldn’t even touch the bottom end other than new oil pan. Just do the head gasket, pd150 head studs, and timing kit(and all the other miscellaneous gaskets) and you should be big chillin. Love to see other tdi guys out there!
Do you know the exact measurements of the brass pipes?
Yes I have the exact part numbers, measurements, and link to them in the description of this video:)
@@minergarage I have allready seen the links but they dont work on my phone idk
If you go on the Home Depot website and look up the part numbers they should pop right up for you
