Hi Javor, great job. I had good weather at the start of last week but as the peak approached it got worse and worse and I missed a lot. However luck really did shine and right on ther very peak, from around 2300 to 0100UT, 13/14 the skies cleared and I got some really good spectra. I had some of my previous Geminid spectra used in the December Sky and Telescope but the article authour was still insisting that 80% of the Geminids are sodium free and my spectra were somehow unusual. In years of the highest resolution spectroscopy avaialbe I have never seen a sodium free Geminid meteor spectrum! And again this year, got six xpectrum in that 2 hour period and all had sodium lines. It's variable like discussed at the last IMC BUT it's always there! I don't understand why some observers ignore the evidence! but then again maybe it's me not understanding the issue.... I have a couple of spectra from a Tenerife observing trip in 2017 where the Na line is very weak, maybe thats considered "sodium free" but then its' only ~1 or 2% certainly not 80%. Anyway roll on the Quadratinds!
Bill, it is great to hear you were able to see the peak this year! The Geminid maximum night was totally hopeless here.
Great photo! What direction in the sky was it?
From Central Slovenia it was in the NW direction (azimuth about 300 deg).
I was able to see it last evening, after days and days of rain. Too faint to be visible by the naked eye, a feeble tail with binoculars. Oh well, better luck next time it comes back 😂😂😂
At least you saw the comet with binoculars. I am still waiting for my second chance for the evening sighting...
Looks great. I've had nothing but cloud and rain for over a week. Not a sign of the comet here! : - ((
Sorry to hear that. October 14 was the only clear evening here since the comet moved to the east of the Sun.
Nice work! Lots of images now coming off Allsky7 cams!
Hi Javor, Great Capture. cheers, Bill.
Thanks, Bill!
There were 5 other bright meteors captured during this same night, the brightest being a green fireball with a flash: ua-cam.com/video/AaP56fmdHJU/v-deo.html
Nice one!!!
Awesome!❤
Thank you so very much for sharing this! It is a beautiful capture!
D devnarayan
So that is what I caught on my night timelapse. It looked like a really big slow meteor...thank you for sharing!!
Thanks for watching! Yes, it is possible that you caught a Starlink group.
Great photos! Very cool, reminds me of times when I was out watching myself. 😊
You guys don't miss anything!
It appears that we have recorded the actual 18 G60 satellites, see www.satobs.org/seesat/Aug-2024/0071.html The video title has been corrected from "Suspected space debris chain from Thousand Sails launch observed on 2024 August 9/10" to "Chain of the first 18 Thousand Sails satellites observed on 2024 August 9/10".
So cool, you guys don't miss anything happening over Slovenia ;)
Infrared 3 next time. Use it for all your findings, eventually you'll see something that you couldn't see before. You'll understand when you see THEM.
I saw it last night when I was watering the grass late, what is the name of it ?
There is no official name for this fireball. The International Meteor Organization has is as Event 3048-2024. See here: fireballs.imo.net/members/imo_view/event/2024/3048 You can report your sighting as well.
Amazing 😍🥰🤣🤣
S katero kamero je posneto?
Gre za doma sestavljeno kamero, na podlagi senzorja Sony IMX291 in 4-mm f/0.95 objektiva.
Project Loon by google? La puttanesca
I wish youtube still showed downvotes. This is bullshit.
It shouldn't be possible to see this from 260 miles from the ground with the naked eye. It's only the size of a Boeing 747. Think about it!
Nice catch of ISS...🛰️ thanks for sharing 👍...as a moderator of the ISS livestream, I'm happy to see such beautiful moments 👏
Thank you too 🛰
the only humans in space in one small looking light flying over you at 7km/s
Predicted? And all we get is a shitty snapshot with an equally lame video?
thats a sexy fireball
Brilliant!
This object came in directly, not burning up going across the sky as we've seen.
and a nice little companion on the way down
A parallel streak above the brightest part of the fireball is a reflection due to the camera dome.
hahahahahahaha I was expecting something a lot bigger than that
Indeed, this one was only bright for a fraction of a second. There was a much more impressive fireball 11 days before: ua-cam.com/video/KpSKE9AmrrY/v-deo.html
Wow thats fast!!
wow, amazing time lapse. Good job!
Glad you like them! I gather you also saw other aurora appearances in my aurora playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLOoR-iKgyWIvac8HZtGKcPvyXDibhDyB0.html
@@SloveniaSkies Can I ask you how visible it was with the naked eye?
@@manz5945 Although fairly faint, the glow was clearly visible to the naked eye. Before I arrived, the aurora was said to have been bright red. Here are some images from a colleague who came to the same location earlier: twitter.com/JAtanackov/status/1721217612451844213
@@SloveniaSkies Thank you for taking the time to answer. I will follow him on twitter, very interesting account :)
satellite or meteorite?
This was a bright meteor, but there was no meteorite fall from the event.
But why do they form a complete halo ? What decudes the diameter ? Why around the moon. ? 😊😊
You can read more about the halo here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo_(optical_phenomenon) A bright source of light is required for us to detect the reflected light therefore we can see halos around the Sun and the Moon.
Wonderful !! Thank you ! I always wondered how they formed ❤👍 I remember the first one that I saw around 1993 ish in UK A perfect circle and some reddish hint of colour also.
is it possible that i saw the same thing in canada the same day?
Not the same event - this one could be seen within approximately 500 km from where it appeared. However, it is possible that you saw another fireball from your place. Note that you can report your sighting here: fireballs.imo.net
Is the top part of the "fireball" a lens glare?
A parallel streak above the brightest part of the fireball is a reflection due to the camera dome.
Can you pull spectroscopic information from a snapshot?
Not much. Certainly not enough to conclude about the elemental composition.
how did you make the intro picture? Its kinda a strobe photography, did you record that with the cam or did u edit it after?
It is a stack of all video frames that contain the fireball from the first camera.
@@SloveniaSkies yea how did you do that? what is it called? I need a tutorial for that for premiere pro
@@Reeegon I can't help you about premiere pro. Here is what I did. I first exported individual frames from the video using FFmpeg: ffmpeg -i video.mp4 -ss 00:00:39 -to 00:00:47 -vsync 0 -f image2 cam2-%03d.png I then stacked the images with the ImageMagick command 'convert'. Like this: convert \ cam2-001.png \ -background None -compose Lighten \ cam2-002.png -layers Flatten \ cam2-003.png -layers Flatten \ cam2-004.png -layers Flatten \ ... cam2-200.png -layers Flatten \ stacked.png
@@SloveniaSkies ok thanks, is there a special name on how that process is called? So i can look for a tutorial for my program
@@Reeegon you can look for video frame stacking.
Thanks for recording and posting . You caught some good ones! What is blinking and stationery at around 4:10 ? First at about the upper middle then off to the left?
Thanks! I guess the blinking point is a satellite. I am unable to identify which, unfortunately.
Amazing 😍🥰🤣🤣
So much effort for 3 views 😔 you're so dedicated
Aren't these just from the meteor shower that's going on now? Or is Kim Jong Un coming to visit us? 😉
They are likely members of the Leonids meteor shower.

thank you for making these videos. Its really nice to have this kind of meteor data bank
Glad you like them!
What are sattelite flares?
It is a brighter reflection of sunlight from the satellite surface at favorable (Sun-satellite-observer) angles. Flares of close to 100 satellites can be seen in this video. Here is some write-up on satellite flares on Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satellite_flare
Saw the same, just much stronger here in germany at 51.9 N :) Beautiful!
Thanks. Certainly, the display must have been much brighter and higher in the sky from your location more than 6 degrees to the north.
