I love my 2006 cyclone grey gto. Irregardless of what was thought of the automotive journalist it was the best general motors car built in that era. PERIOD. I was 19 when I was working in the was rack at a Pontiac dealer when we took the last Gto that they ordered (small dealer). It was phantom black metallic 6 speed. I was the first to drive it. I fell in love instantly. 12 years later last year actually I finally got one. Let me tell you also none of the new cars peak interest like this car. Totally unique automobile. I even would like to say the build quality is up to par even by today's standards. At least fit and finish. And to have independent suspension, the chassis is from 1998 from holden very refined automobile.

This was really good and fun watching it in 2018. I bought my GTO new in 2006 and love it. It was very poorly marketed, and it makes one wonder if it was intentionally sabotaged, as one insider said it was, due to GM North America resenting that it came from AU. So many of the classic GTO owners have come around and now love it. And an almost unbelievable number of 04-06 GTO owners who eventually sold, have bought back in. As Top Gear UK said: “It’s magical”. Jim Wangers impressed me here with his suggested advertising slogan. No doubt if he had been in charge, they would have doubled sales. One final thought, there are some styling similarities between the 1970-1971 GTO and the new one. At least Pontiac could have gone with that instead of lining it up against the boxy 1964 with which there was no similarity styling-wise, but Pontiac went with the 40th anniversary theme. Big mistakes in marketing.

I love my '04 GTO. Only car I have ever bought new. I have owned it for 14 years now. It has the '05 hood with scoops GM offered to '04 owners, put it on shortly after buying it, but other than that it is completely stock and turns heads everywhere I go. There are still so many that do not know the '04-'06 GTO's even existed. GM did not do a good job of marketing and IMO that is why they did not sell well. Even 14 years later my stock '04 GTO is faster than 98% of what's made today. Everyone I know seems to want to buy mine from me now but that is not happening!

The '04 was awesome...NO complaints. It DID need a hood with noticeable difference from all other cars at the time. Splitter tips worked well, and sounded great. Nice interior, great engine. (LS2), and trans.

Agreed I own an 05 Yellow jacket M-6. 41k miles Love it its a great road car. I have done a bunch of upgrades. The cool part is few folks have one!! One of 447 made like mine!!!

This burns me up, because the new GTO is a damn good (and fast) car. Look, unless it was a box on wheels, it wasn't going to look like a 1964 GTO...and who would want it to? It would just have been a cheap imitation... Pontiac slapped GTO on the 73 Lemans and on a 74 Ventura and I've not heard or read half of the hate that the 04-06 models get on those turds. The modern GTO's (stock) can eat the old ones (stock) so give me a break.

One case where Aussies did this country some good. People seem to forget that the original Goat wasn't that great of a handler, even by the standards of the muscle-car class. This new one is.
