Experimenting with Dried up Gouache! Have I reconstituted it correctly?
Переглядів 8821 день тому
As I refreshed my supplies for 2025, I discovered I had a dried crunchy, moldy gouache palette. I had purchased it with great enthusiasm, and after awhile I left it all alone on a shelf! Poor paints, they were so neglected! I tried to remedy the error of my ways. I had to throw away the moldy blue one. Cleaned the pallet and added the recommended essential oils to keep that from happening again...

Making Wispy Grasses Without Masking Fluid!
Pam, wonderful video! I like this activity so much more than Diamine Inkvent or Colorverse Inkvent because it is a favorites collection. The catalog and cards were so much fun! Thanks for sharing all of my new favorite inks!
@@MarcellHobbs I was trying them on my different papers today and accidentally spilled February all over myself and my desk! I looked like the purple people eater! 😂.
I find more success activating paints by using a few drops of water with a pipette, not spraying. Especially high granulating paints. One paint I have the most trouble with is Roman Szmal Aquarius Black. It is beautiful after it gets going but at first it will make you think you got a bad pan. But like I said, I never spray, only a couple drops of water. And I’m always afraid too much water would affect my metal pan and maybe rust.
@@sunnycharacter good advice.

Very nice pens and inks! I think the green ink looks great with that pen! You will not buy the new TWSBI Espresso in Bronze they will release soon? I am in my diehard TWSBI fan girl stage so I’m definitely getting the Espresso when it’s available! I love the 1.1 stub nibs! Thanks for the nice and relaxing video!

I love the way you have presented various papers for the ink swatches. I did a similar activity a few years ago with a Hobonichi weeks and taped in copy paper strips for comparison. Love this!
@@MarcellHobbs thank you! 😊
I treated myself to the Lumos Duo for Christmas. My daughter gave me a gift card to Blick art supply. Wow!!!! I love ink and wash with watercolor and have always used the pigma micron pen, well…I’m in love with the lumos pen. I know I will buy more of the pens. Easy to fill and change nibs, though I have not tried reusing and changing color of cartridges. I think I will get the storage vials and just switch them out. I have the Carbon black permanent ink in my pen now and will get another pen and put Noodlers permanent sepia in the other. If I want other colors I’ll just use a dip pen. I am really enjoying this pen!!!
@@ellenraguette4623 it’s really amazing. It’s actually taken me some time to use and really appreciate what the possibilities are. I too have been using it with my watercolor. Just to think that I can choose the line width and change it accordingly, all in one pen, is such a joy. Thanks for watching.
Nice collection of on the go pallets, Pam.
Pam, a beautiful painting of Rocky! I am sorry to hear of his passing. Hugs. What love.❤
I have several LAMY pens that I do not use. Some haven’t been inked since purchase, even the Rose Gold Lux. I purchased the new Blackberry last Spring, but gifted it to my para. Enjoy those fabulous pens!

@@MarcellHobbs I’m trying to be an adult and use what I’ve already purchased! 😂😉

It took quite awhile for me to purchase the LAMY 2000 because it lacked aesthetic beauty, but it has been constantly inked and in use since I received it! I love this pen!
@@MarcellHobbs poor thing, I will make sure I use it now! 😉
I did the same thing as you but with a Narwahl pen. It has a piston filer and I thought it was vacuum and almost broke it before I figured it out. Duh. You must be about the same age as me as I had my first fountain pen experience in Catholic grade school. I started collecting fountain pens about 8 years ago and have so many that I need to sell some. At least I know what I like now. 😄
I was totally the opposite of you when I got my Lamy 2K. I used it month after month and now it’s clean and been put away for next year. In January, I intend to go through all of my pens in storage cases and see which ones I don’t want to use anymore & put them up for sale….. this is one way I’m going to add to my collection and keep the budget in check. 😂

@@queenbuzybee4074 we’ll see! 🤔🫣 Fingers crossed! 🤞 😂
Hi Pam! The Lamy 2000 is indeed an iconic pen. I love it’s simplistic, yet elegant, design. Like with all pens, there are those that love it and those that dislike it. I‘d like to correct you on one fact. It has a 14k gold nib (not a stainless steel 14k gold plated nib). The nib is made of 14k gold and platinum coated, hence the silver look). Finding the „sweet spot“ mostly pertains to the <EF> and <F> nibs, which do not have a lot of tipping. If you hold them too much toward the side, they can skip.
@@queenbuzybee4074 yes, see I’m still learning! It’s indeed being used!!! Thanks for watching! 😊

@@thejoyinpensandpaper890 thank you it’s a joy!
The natural 3 palette has a lot of unusual pigments in it, which I’m not surprised take a bit of time on rewetting. I love some of her natural palettes but I prefer a bit more punch from my paints and prefer the more standard paints in her range. I did buy it for my husband though who loves exploring interesting granulation. The art of soil palette looks amazing. I’d love to get my hands on that! Thank you for your video.

That so interesting about the Leonardo Kintsugi. When my fam and I recently visited the Japanese Garden here in Portland they had on exhibition those exact type of pottery pieces. Fascinating reading about this long tradition of saving broken pieces. Some of those pieces were absolutely gorgeous too. And I still want a King of the Night pen but still not in my pen budget 😢
@@wildlyimaginable my budget is finished for 2024. Yesterday I looked through my pens to begin to decide what I want to bring out of hibernation for 2025. And I cleaned some pens and tucked them in for a nap. 😴 I thought of you while I was cleaning my pens. You’d be so proud of me. 🥰🎄

Thank you for the review. I have been eying these paints for awhile as these are Canadian made by an Anishinaabe company located on Manitoulin Island of Lake Huron, Ontario (my home province) in beautiful Georgian Bay. I really became interested in Indigenous creation of colour when I visited the north Pacific coast last year, home to the Haida and Squamish First Nations…the creators of beautiful totem poles (and promptly fell in love with the works of Emily Carr as well). For example, I learned that the lovely shades of blue on the totem poles were derived from copper. Anyways, tanks again for the review. It is inspiring.

My 11 yr. old granddaughter loves writing in my journals with my fountain pens. I would love to gift to her, but they are home schooled (with all the supplies to share ) and the youngest is 18 months old. The littles can’t be trusted yet. She is getting hand lettering manuals and TomBow markers for Christmas for sure. Pilot Varsity also offers disposable fountain pen sets. I have a set in my classroom. Love your new pen. I’ve been eyeing the green one. I can’t remember the names of each color.
@@MarcellHobbs yes I understand sharing principles. I homeschooled my kids back in the 1980s . At that time we were considered pretty extreme, homeschooling was frowned upon at that time. Glad I did it! I actually forgot my granddaughters age, she’s 12! Definitely quite the young lady. And yes, I finally realized it’s the Incredible Rock, and I inked it up last night with Jacques Herbin “Tour Eiffel “ and it’s so, so nice and writes beautifully! The green one…names still elusive…is on my list. Maybe 2025, I’m shopping for Christmas! 🎄❤️
@ So you totally get it. She’s afraid the littles would manage to get their hands on the fountain pens. The first time she wrote with a fountain pen in my Hobonichi from my purse she said, “Why is my handwriting so good with this?” She was nine y.o. then. Anyway she’s hooked on journaling and scrapbooking. The name of the green pen is Quirky Leaf. I actually added one to my cart last night, but did not purchase. 🤭
