The Power of Luffy
One Piece is the highest selling manga of all time, and over the past few months I read through all of it (and it's pretty good). And even though I've been obsessed with Sanji (the best cook ever put on screen), it's undeniable that Luffy is the single most important character in the series. In this video, we look through the world and state of One Piece, how Luffy acts as hope in this cruel society and why the revolution is coming.

The Best Chapter of My Hero Academia (Comparatively)
Переглядів 1,5 тис.2 роки тому
My Hero Academia is one of the biggest names in Shounen right now and with the manga finally coming to an end with the current arc, I want to give my thoughts on the series as a whole through the lens of one of my favourite chapters in the series, Chapter 326: Who Are You, Really? This video discusses why I love All Might as a character and how the series built upon him in just a single incredi...
Let's Talk About Slime Rancher 2..
Переглядів 4922 роки тому
Slime Rancher 2 has been released upon the world and I played it and now I am talking about it. This video is a discussion/review on Slime Rancher 2 where I talk about why I love Slime Rancher and how Slime Rancher 2 is kind of a reskin and why that might be a problem (among other things). To clarify I LOVE Slime Rancher, it's one of the best indie games in recent memory so no hate please :) Su...
Edgerunners: The Problem with being Gifted

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners came out and it's already one of the best things on Netflix. Because I can't stop talking, here's a video about my personal interpretation on Edgerunner's narrative and what I think it's core message is. I believe Edgerunners to be a story about David's struggle with being 'special' or 'gifted' and how it leads to his downfall by the end of the series. If you enjoyed this...
Oxenfree: Life and Death

Oxenfree, released in 2016 by Night School Studios, is about to get it's sequel (hopefully) so I decided to finally play the original after it has been sitting in my steam library for 10 years. What I found was probably one of the best narratives I've experienced in recent memory, ripe with mystery, intrigue and a strangely good amount of comedy, Oxenfree hits that strange sweet spot of fun adv...
Firewatch: Growing Up

This is a video essay about Firewatch, released in 2016 by Campo Santo, and probably one of the best examples of a walking simulator to currently exist in the gaming sphere. In this video I'll discuss the themes of Firewatch (at least what I believe them to be), the meaning and importance of growing up and why I think Henry is a horrible terrible person and does not deserve his position (kiddin...
I Never Really Played Minecraft...

As a kid who grew up on the internet, Minecraft has been probably one of the biggest and most influential parts of my life. So this video is just a short discussion on my feelings about Minecraft, UA-camrs and all they did for me. Also this video is obviously inspired by jschlatt's 'A Tribute to Minecraft' though not nearly as well made (sorry schlattheads). If you're for some reason still read...

    really well made video! i really like your interpretation of it and how people's expectations of how video games are "supposed" to go are subverted by reality. this game really resonated with me when i saw it and i'm glad there are people who find the value in it

    Good video. I have a lot of complex thoughts about David, but I enjoy him as a character. It helps when you consider that he's barely an adult and basically had no social or emotional connections before the crew. And that all the events of Edgerunners take place in less than a year. David is kinda selfish and lacks general emotional intelligence (shown in how he basically misinterprets other people's dreams), but is a lovable character nonetheless.

    Great video. I would also like to say how Marines being being able to do anything for "justice" shows how effective the government is at propaganda/misinformation, it reminds me of a warhammer 40k inquisitor who's quote was "Innocence proves nothing".

    I’m only an anime watcher and I haven’t watched MHA in a while… but would Ari “the little girl with the horn on her head”, be able to throw All might back into his prime? I really wanted to see all might fight one last time…

    • @mxkaylas
      @mxkaylas 2 роки тому

      If I'm not wrong, I believe it is said that quirks come from a certain part or area of the body. This part gets damaged by the quirk removong bullets and that is what stops them from using their quirks What Eri does is reverse the body to a time when the quirk factor wasn't damaged so they can use it again. However, in the case of All Might, Deku amd Eri, One for All isn't part of this factor as proven by Monoma not being able to copy them. Though that might just be speculation idk.

    Some of these problems you have with the story are because Horikoshi has been rushing to the end of the story faster than he wanted to

    • @mxkaylas
      @mxkaylas 2 роки тому

      That's a good point, I definitely feel the pacing getting a lot worse towards the end as character plots just get concluded out of nowhere (Lemillion, Shinso, kind of Aoyama) and that's why people have begun to talk critically of MHA now more than ever. I do sympathise with Horikoshi probably feeling burnt out working on MHA for 8 years but it probably would have been better taking a long break between large arcs (maybe right before or after phantom liberation war) instead of just rushing to end it now.

    • @t.j.1584
      @t.j.1584 2 роки тому

      Sometimes rushing a manga is just out of the authors control. The higher ups like Shonen Jump sometimes rush their authors and the authors don’t have a say. Plus when the Lemillion reveal happened in the last war arc, that’s when Horokoshi got a new editor. And I’ve heard from people that the new editor is trash, so that’s probably why things have been going downhill.

    I love and hate David. I’m really similar, and really different from him. I think that’s what makes him so compelling. Nothing was ever enough for him-not that it could be in a world like Cyberpunk. The ending both entirely his own fault and entirely out of his control. Was he simply doing the best he could in a messed up world? Probably-that’s what makes the show so heartbreaking. Ultimately, I think it was a story of found-family, and not recognizing that for what it was. Still, shows like this exist to remind us just how precious a happily ever after actually is.

    The ending is perfect because he's been built up to be some chosen one all for it to be shattered by Adam smasher proving he wasn't really that special compared to the big dogs in the world

  • @gigi-gii

    im kind of okay with the ending tbh because I really do think David wouldve lived to become somebody like Adam Smasher which is something I wouldnt wanna see. Like adam, david was "special" I honestly think if he was given more time he wouldve been able to sorta overcome cyberpsychosis (I say this cuz he overcame it with Lucy, not with the meds in the last parts)

  • @nosorab3
    @nosorab3 2 роки тому

    I'd say David was special, but he never used his cyber-resistance to its fullest. He could have really mastered every implant and integrated them before moving on, but he was stuck in Maine's philosophy of 'mor chrome = more gooder' Ironically, Adam Smasher is a great example of what David could have become if he paced himself. Not to say David would have gone full no-ganic, but rather he could have done more with what he had if he himself had a personal ideology to center himself on. David himself had no dreams or true aspirations to hang his specialness onto, instead he overclocked his body and mind to fulfill the dreams of others. It's really part of the central tragedy of his character.

    I was convinced after Maine's death, even more with every episode, that David was going to go cyberpsycho and do something terrible and irredeemable. It was the weirdest bittersweet moment to experience the end of his arc and know that, tragic as it may be, the far worse fate was narrowly avoided.

    I think Johnny Silverhand's quote at the end of the game tied in really well with the ending of the anime: "Happy ending? Here? For folks like us? Wrong city, wrong people." I think David's story was always fated to end the way it did, there just aren't any happy endings for people like him in Night City. There was no walking away from any of that for him, so instead he decided to go all the way through with it and sacrifice all of himself to at least pave a path for a happier ending for Lucy
