OpenTTD World Record Speed Run 100% [2h17m22s]

There are many different game styles for a sandbox game like OpenTTD. One style which I had never tried was a speed run (as fast as you can) to get a 100% Performance Rating. The speed run game strategy is very different to a long-term strategy and knowing the game mechanics is also b...

I found your videos far easier to follow than other ATC ones, maybe due to smaller airports? May be your calm manners too!
Thanks for the positive feedback and for participating in the streams. It probably does help that I'm doing medium and smaller aerodromes, then have time to connect to the audience watching.

@@josecapos5421 Thanks for the traffic. Hope to see you again soon.
Subscribed......You have done a couple of Ground controls for us (AirNott's Flight), and am learning the ATC ropes for when my turn comes up by watching you. You seem very calm. Credit to you. How many hours do you have to do at these 'Smaller' airports before you get a go at Gatwick, and the the BIGGIE....Heathrow Keep them coming and would love to see the Tower view.
@@richardswede Thanks for subscribing. I’m always happy to hop on to provide cover if I’m free. Not sure how I find out about your intended group flights - please let me know. I have to do 50 hours on standard airports, then I get some course material, theory exam and practical session at Gatwick. After that, it’s 50 hours at Gatwick Ground or Delivery before Heathrow Ground training. So roughly about 100 hours in total. However, I expect that to be slightly more as Gatwick is a popular position to control. Whilst that’s all going on, I can get onto the S2 waiting list at 50 hours, so the same time as the Gatwick endorsement opens. Then once I’ve waited and pass the training group that open ups tower positions at standard airports. I add tower view to a few videos when it doesn’t distract me controlling.
Just got into ATC videos and would maybe like to look into becoming a UK controller. How easy/straight-forward was it get going?
@@-M4cD4ddY- Hello. Thanks for watching and the question. I’m going to do a video that explains the process I followed. Details about becoming a controller is here www.vatsim.uk/atc/new-controller Be warned the wait time is long but I used that time to fly on the network and learn so that I was well prepared for the training and exams.

I was trying to find myself as i flew a few days ago from stansted to edinburgh using vatsim. Guess i just about missed you
I’m streaming and controlling at Manchester Ground on Thursday 1900z-2100z. Feel free to come along and say hi.
Over the years, I've clocked over 1,000 hours on VATSIM, all as a pilot. I’m incredibly grateful for the dedication and realism that virtual controllers bring to this platform, and I truly admire their patience with the endless stream of partial, incorrect, humorous, and sometimes exaggerated readbacks and requests you all handle. Keep up the great work-real pilots appreciate it!
Thanks for watching and I agree. When I've flown on VATSIM, the time and effort the controllers put in is truly amazing. Hopefully, I can pay back to the community in my little way by controlling. Hope to see you online when I'm controlling, say hi if so.
@@Gamer-Clark I'll sure do :)
Can't wait to watch this one. Exciting!!
Just a few constructive comments: 1. I would swap Tower View in MSFS to a small window, with the Euroscope screen in full screen - the text is not legible and a waste of time. I came to watch controlling, not flying planes (actually static airport landscapes mostly). In fact, I might not have Tower View at all and simply have a camera at the landing end of the runway, looking back towards the gates. 2. I want to see ATIS, VATGlass, VATSpy, etc. on screen (not necessarily all at once). 3. I'd recommend you go check out other VATSIM ATC streamers and see their screen layouts. For me, the webcam bottom left or bottom middle is better. Looking forward to your next session. You'll gradually build fluidity and confidence, I'm sure. (PS I'm a Yorkshireman too)
Thanks for the comments and they’re super helpful. I understand your points and will try different scene setups to see what works best. I agree, a larger Euroscope is probably better. And yes, us Yorkshire men should stick together. 😂
Another great video my friend. Keep it up!
Thanks. What did you think of the TowerView scene?
@@Gamer-Clark You should definitely switch the tower view and euroscope. But it's a good addition.
I reaaalllyyy enjoyed this. Please make more videos like this. I'm subscribing
Thanks for watching. I'm looking to stream and record at least once a week but might pop up more frequently. Are you a fellow VATSIM pilot or controller?
@@Gamer-Clark I'm looking forward to it. I've been a member of ivao/vatsim for over 10 years now but I have always been a bit too nervous to make flights. Now I am older and way less anxious I maybe wanna really give it a shot and get my controller training to do some controlling. That's why seeing this video really makes me happy.
@@Theactualgamer1You should start flying with ATC coverage. I was very nervous to start but did a VATSIM NewWings event where the pilots were new and there was a briefing to read. If you are comfortable flying a plane in the sim, then you should be fine. You’d be more than welcome to connect when I’m controlling as you saw in this video, we try abs help new pilots. We all have to start somewhere.
@@Gamer-Clark Thank you very much for the tips my friend I will try to give them a go. I did not know about NewWings event so I will look into it. Keep up the great work!
I started to dabble in this game. Great job! This video has taught me how inefficient I am.
This isn't a very efficient network, I've done much better ones. Particularly if you ever end up doing co-op style games with logic gates etc.
I made it to 15 minutes, then I had to stop watching because I started feeling nauseous from listening to all the lip smacking and swallowing. Good job on the niche wr tho.
Sorry about that but thanks for watching. I hope I haven't put you off other videos of mine. I'm learning the mic settings, maybe I don't have it so close to me next time.
Other than the graphic... Open ttd is quite entertaining.
The graphics are spot on.
no Luton? Im disapointed
I guess being the first one to attempt an ulra niche category is technically a world record, but this title still feels very misleading
Water level wasn't reset to high when regenerating the map?
That is one setting you are allowed to change from the default of high.
8k/4k Maps are brutal. I played High-res Europe and Japan, focussing on Pass. It get´s real messy, if you want to sustain a good level on transport (not too much cargo waiting) you cannot catch up with city growt...
Nice, please can you let me know what maps you used?
@@Gamer-Clark The 4K scenarios (4K Europe, 4K Japan), you can download them in the game. Europe starts in 1900... Played "normal" industry and 2cc sets, fokus on Pass. I started with coal, wood, iron to get cash. after about 20 Years collecting cash, i started connecting pass-cities, My concept: Connect 3 cities via train, 2 train service, all connected cities has at least 5 stations with bus/tram, i let the network grow, when the city grows, Metros in Citys above 20k..., Airports are build as far outside a city as poss - but at least 3 15k-cities should be nearby to fe feed them... My goal was to connect all cities, have full service with low cargo waiting. But I gave up in 1964 having connected roughly 1/3 of the towns, that grew to massive cities and formed metropoles, I could not handle anymore...
We seem to be missing part of your screen.
Yes, I have a 34 inch monitor and the aspect ratio does not work well on UA-cam or Twitch videos.
As the BRTrains developer I strongly recommend not mixing and matching it with other UK sets. As you’ve found it gets very confusing
Thanks for being a developer of BRTrains. That GRF set is amazing.
The track type and NewGRF parameters can both limit the APT to 125mph, make sure the NewGRF parameter is set to design speed
Bruh my laptop and it's arse cpu can just barely run a 4k by 4k map, can't imagine how quickly an 8k by 4k map would melt a hole through my motherboard lol. That said, as a Canadian an 8k by 8k map of Canada would be the stuff of dreams for me lol, the 4k ones all feel just a tad smol to me given how aboslutely massive Canada is haha
GET TO THE POINT
shut up just skip
😂
Have you published your NewGfx list anywhere? Curious about which, roads, tracks and trains/vehicle sets you are using. Nice looking depots for instance, which newgfx are the depots from?
Doesn't seem like you know the game mechanics all that well =P
Well, one final comment; well done.
Early trains slow down at every turn. So instead of having "two way tracks" run next to each other (understandable for the looks...), you can minimise the number of turns by letting them seperate a bit. At this time @47:30 you can have one turn instead of two, on the "south bound" track. It all adds up. Well, perhaps not on a speedrun like this? 🙂
Early trains do not slow down at every turn. They use the same math as every other train, which is based on curve length. Track type does impact what speed the trains will slow down to on a short curve length, but train itself has no impact. In the example you quoted, the two turns are in opposing directions therefore do not effect the train speed, and the third turn is 5 tiles away which is plenty of curve length.
@@AtomixKingg Hmm... I'll take your word for it, eventhough my memory tells me different. Maybe I was thinking about the Chimera, which does not slow down on one zigzag turn... thx for correcting me.
Using one way path signals on long, one-way tracks, is just burning money needlessly. Sure, for the looks and the posh, but... this is an economics game. No? There need only be one path signal in, and one out from the stations. The rest can be the standard block signals. Now admittedly on this little map, and with not that many signals, it doesn't matter much. At least in the long run perhaps, but still. On large maps, with many, maaany, signals, there is also a computational benefit to using block signals as standard. This only checks if the next block is clear. The _path_ signal checks if the wanted path is clear. This takes longer, as there is more instructions to execute. So on large maps, with thousands of signals being frequently checked, there might be a noticable lag, as the CPU need to run all those signal checks.
If there are multiple trains for the same track and one breaks down then the other ones can come closer if you have multiple signals.
The more signals you have, the higher throughput of your tracks. If you only have one train on the track, then yes you're absolutely right, but with anymore than one you'll have trains waiting around for no reason. Actually to get the most throughput, you want the smallest possible gap. Yes, it's a higher initial investment, but only a couple thousand. After your trains running the route a few times you'll make the investment back over having only one signal on a one-way line. This idea scales up the more and more trains you have on the line.
Short question: should the timer really be reset when rejecting a map?
Yes.
Nice work. I've played OTTD for years and years just casually but have never done timetabling. I might give it a try
Super fun, I never heard of this!
A few tips. For stations you can add a bus+truck+dock+air connected per each train station giving one station a total of 5 worth. You do this either by holding CTRL or build it adjacent to link to that station making it one. For vehicles you can add any amount at the end, the lowest profit is for vehicles older than 2 years so you wont affect that goal. For cargo you add busses in cities, then sell when 40k reached when you are done with all other goals, you have one year timer for this goal. Its possible you might not need this at the end if you do a lot of other cargo. For cargo types you can do a little trick. Transfer all weird cargos (just a small amount) to one station that is quite close to a town/city, then you can keep this station at 100% by using town/citys advertisement to not lose the cargo. The cargo will decay if its below 43% iirc. When you are done with most goals you release one train with all the cargos and "fund" each accepting industry in the same place for a one stop delivery. Hot tip for fast money start is pax+val from 2 big cities. Take out full loan at the start. Make it one trip first if you cant afford. Avoid going over trees, curved elevations and farmland as those cost more to build on.
Saber OUT! :D

It's interesting comparing UK landmass to North America. It's much larger. I always liked the difference of East Coast and West Coast of North America. I'm assuming the differences in UK are more shallow because it's smaller and easier to go over there?
Thanks for your comment and watching the video. Depending on the part of the UK, there is a hilly section of the Pennines running between the East and West.
@@Gamer-Clark Pennines are your rough divider? Fair enough. North America is more complicated. East Coast, then the Midwest (Great Lakes). Midwest happens long before the West Coast ever starts
@@Gamer-Clark Look up Megalopolis, that's an interesting concept that goes beyond Metropolitan areas. It's really cool, when you see it at that scale. And that rail line, along with boats, could create a regional mega-city if you will. I know you find that stuff interesting
bro has a custom map with a gazilion of cities and first thing he does is build another one...you said you play custom map cause off the realism, not sure what is realistic about founding a 1k pop city with pennies lol..or starting on a map with some already huge population cities (normall the og game has small towns so you dont get to make gazilions of cash right away from passengers and etc)
Not sure what's unrealistic about having a starting map with massive cities when London's population in 1980 (The start year of this save) was ~6.75 Million. Besides, dude didn't say he likes playing on custom maps because he needs pure realism, he said he perfers it for the "slight bit of realism", big difference there
“Realistic” means copying the real world networks and units etc, you’re completely missing the point @parastas
I would redo the whole episode. There is a constant noise in the background. Super annoying.
The noise you hear is the vehicle sound from the GRF pack. It is a bit loud, I’ll turn it down on the next video.
Havnt caught up to this episode yet but halfway through ep2 im enjoying the laid back vibe and the time you take to explain things keep it up

Thanks for the title error.
How accurate do you want to be woth timetables? High speed dont stop at Welwyn but some stop at Stevenage.
Thanks for your comment and watching the videos. I hope you are enjoying them. I don’t think ultimately I want to set the goal for 100% realism with routes and timetables. However, it’s good to know when I refresh the timetables on this route.
At 25:00 doesn't these stations primed to get deadlocks?
In what way do you mean? Please explain.
York has a tad bit more shopping center than it needs.
