The Unicycle Guy
Приєднався 23 жов 2022
Howdy! I'm Sean Daugherty, fightin Texas Aggies Class of 2025, aka "The Unicycle Guy".
A Brief History: I've been riding unicycles since Christmas of 2017. Fall of 2021 I got into freestyle riding, and I started juggling in April of 2022. I'd been thinking about starting a UA-cam Channel for quite some time. That idea really resonated with people, so I figured it was about time!
Here I'll post videos of unicycle, juggling, basketball trick shots, and whatever else I find interesting. I will also post tutorials, so keep an eye out for those!

🎉🎉🎉❤❤
Here's an idea that might help learning new tricks. What if you rotate the saddle 90 degrees. That will give you a different hand leverage. OH, I just thought of a new trick. A cross legged bunny hop.
I’ve tried one foot sideways on pedals. It is a crazy trick imo. I’ve gotten 1 full rev of that several times but never practiced it enough to get it down. I’ve also tried idling and I think my best as of now is 5 back and forth idles. Cross leg bunny hopping I do to make the transition into cross riding. Sometimes I skip the hopping and mount straight into riding. I can also do cross hopping on tire.
@@theunicycleguytamu okay, i see the bunny hop now. Ur tech skills are amazing to us unicyclers, but over looked by most. I really really want to see u on a double uni.
it's also professional. I would love to practice with you. I wish you endurance and strength. 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you! 🙌 Same for you!
oh man this is something sensationally good. I bow to your persistence and efforts. I wish you the best for this year as well and I look forward to your videos. 🎉🎉❤🎉🎉
Thanks man! Likewise!
Really awesome and fun to watch too !
Thank you! 🙌
You are a master at your trade keep it up great things will come your way❤❤❤ best wishes mike
Thanks man I appreciate it!
You are really amazing such balance n foot work congrats happy new year your unicycling brother mike arotsky ❤❤❤
Thanks man! Happy New Year to you as well! 🙌
It's amazing how you do it. Many new challenges for this year and, most importantly, good health to you 🎉🎉🎉
I appreciate it! You as well!
You need fly to germany and compete with them. Btw, wheres the Double unicycle trick. U can do it.
I tried it but it is surprisingly hard 😅. I’m not sure if it’s because of the drastic difference in crank lengths, but it still seems doable. It just will take a little practice 💪.
@@theunicycleguytamu Dude, too bad you are not in LA, I can loan you my 20". Seems the hardest trick is getting two identical unicycles. Keep on.
One of my 20” unis has 78mm cranks and the other one 125mm cranks, so pretty big difference. I was able to idle for a couple seconds with the 2 unicycles. It might be helpful for me to try putting more weight in the seats.
This is insane! Thanks for posting ☺️😁
Thank you, I appreciate it! 🙌
come on dude, 2x unicycles!! first ever
Nice
Thanks! 🙏
this takes ALOT of practice!
Great stuff. I think I see progress in that the super difficult tricks are getting smoother. I wonder if someone will make mini rollers at the seat bumpers front and back for those seat drops and drags ? 😊
Thanks man, yeah definitely things are getting smoother. LOL, you're not the first person to tell me that. The seat bouncing is annoying, especially for cross drag because the mechanics are completely different from normal drag seat. Sometimes the seat bouncing causes the unicycle to end up in a position where you can't pedal. You get better at controlling it, but that takes time. I started trying it with seat in back and I think it may be easier long term. For normal drag seat, the seat in back version feels more relaxed and easier to control because the seat doesn't bounce up and down. Same with drag seat in front backwards - the seat drags instead of bounces so it feels more relaxed.
Hey Uni-guy, great riding as always. Too bad only unicycle riders can really appreciate your skills. I thought of a neat trick for you, since you are a one pedal master. Ride two unicycles at once. One foot on each pedal, and one hand on each saddle. I think you can do it. Your weight will be spread across two so, there should be less saddle pressure for you to control. Also, in theory it will be stable, because you press on the inside pedals they both balance inwards if you keep them in phase.
Thanks man, I appreciate it! I don't think I own two unicycles with the same crank length, but theoretically it should still work if the crank lengths are different. I'll give it a try!
very cool, nice to see 🎉🎉
Thanks! I just learned cross hopping on wheel.
Can ask why you wear a helmet at times? Awesome trick as always
Thanks! I fractured my wrist earlier in the semester and had a couple other hard falls. I figured wearing a helmet is a good habit to be in.
Sorry to hear that. I would have thought getting these hard falls was behind you, but I guess those tricks are really not easy then. Good you are protecting yourself then
Actually most of my hard falls have been from a trick you do a lot - 1 ft reverse with leg extended. Easy trick to learn but annoying to get solid. I can ride a full figure eight on both legs with hands behind back with foot on frame pretty consistently. But it’s a bit harder with leg extended. I think it’s good to practice this because a lot of these variations you can’t use hands for balance. The vast majority of the time I can bail safely but although not too technical I think one foot reverse is an injury prone trick and wrist guards should be worn for it no matter how solid you are at it. The fracture was from training Smiley Walk with brand new shoes and my foot slipped on the tire. That was one of the only tricks I didn’t wear wrist guards for. Now I wear wrist guards for everything.
@@theunicycleguytamu yes i agree that 1 ft rev is an accident prone trick..I can't afford to keep spraining my wrists too much at my age. Different shoes, going from thicker to thinner tyre, even socks can make the difference in the number of accidents for me 😔
Perfect, masterful. 🎉❤🎉
Thank you! 😊
fkn amazing cross legged ultimate wheelin.
The fact that it was spinning made me laugh
Yeah clubs are harder than balls with having to control spins at different heights lol.
Nice. Are you giving your walking globe away? I need one. If you want to gift me one. I will take it.
Thanks! No, I'm not giving mine away. Renegade sells walking globes, although they ran out of stock a while back. I don't know whether they've restocked.
very good. however, I see you also use a helmet. I hope it's not because you hit yourself earlier.😊😊 🎉
Thanks man! I'm okay, I've just taken some hard falls lately and am almost fully recovered from a wrist fracture. I figured wearing a helmet is a good habit to be in anyway..
@theunicycleguytamu Yes. People tend to take things lightly, but yes, I think a helmet is also a good thing. Take care of yourself. I'm waiting for your next video.
You are always my inspiration. Appreciate your vids. By the way, what crank size do you use for your freestyle?
Thanks man I really appreciate it! The cranks in this video are 90s. I recently switched to 78s though and my cross drag has been improving.
Hey Uni guy, here's trick request: 1.) Do a bunny hop with one foot on pedal and other foot "off". 2.,) Do a bunny hop with right foot on left pedal(you know switch feet) and "free foot" hanging outside. It should be easy for you, but it would look so cool and weird. Keep on
Thanks for the trick requests. That’s a good idea. I don’t do a lot of hopping tricks as of now, but hopping variations might make an interesting video.
excellent❤🎉❤
Thanks! 🙏
Around 56 and 69 catches..very nice my friend. I have just started 6b very recently. Done a few flashes and maybe 8-10 catches so far but I haven't properly focused yet. How long has it taken you to get this far from flashing 6 balls? I hope to get 50+ catches in maybe 6 months..but we will see if I am being overly ambitious.😁 Keep it up man
Thanks man I appreciate it! Best of luck on your 6 ball journey. Just being honest, 6 ball fountain is the hardest trick I ever learned and I still feel like I can barely do it. This is not everyone’s experience, it is just mine. I’ve been seriously training 6 balls since June of 2023, and I started the 3 in each hand training in November of 2022. I think the reason it has been so hard for me is because I had serious form issues - I was stuck at 57 catches of async for over 6 months, and my sync pattern didn’t improve that much until more recently. Once I figured out the problem I started making progress again and getting much more consistent with 50+ catches. However sometimes my left side still doesn’t want to cooperate and because I’m not absorbing the catch properly it gets the pattern all twisted up and makes the balls bounce out of my hands easily. I’d recommend getting really good at various 5 ball patterns and siteswaps while learning 6 balls. Always train lots to tricks at once. Even after a session that went terribly, I can always find at least one trick that went better than usual. Reward yourself with progression on lots of tricks at once. Anyway, I hope this is helpful. If you don’t have any serious form issues you should be able to make noticeable progress over a few months. But form I’d say is THE most important thing to watch out for - make sure you are absorbing the catch.
Muito bom ver toda essa atividade monociclista continuem assim
¡gracias! 🙌
NICE!!
Thanks! 😊
"if you are having problems getting stuff like figure 8's 1 foot ride, dont spend too much time on it just move on" . I cant agree with this more. I used to press forward for quite long when I reach a barrier and it didnt really help much. Just move on to other tricks as you said is the best
I find that practicing these turns isn’t something you get quick results on. Consistency comes over time, and making a couple attempts on a regular basis feels like the most efficient way for me.
Yrssss
Very very good video. It is comprehensive and detailed. It helps a lot with practice. Thanks🎉🎉
I appreciate it! I'm so glad to hear this is helpful! 😊
The critical number of revs is 24. That's the minimal number of 1-footed revolutions you have to make competing in 50m 1-f on a 24" standard unicycle (the first 5 meters you ride with both feet, hence the number is down to 24 revs).
Good point! I didn’t think to address this. I have never competed in the 50m 1 ft track race, but I know this is a popular event.
@@theunicycleguytamu Well, not really: *50m-1f* is one of the _least popular_ track events (measuring by the number of participants). It seems to be too technical for many riders 😬 It beats the *wheelwalk* in popularity though 🙂; and 50m 1-footed is consistently (and surprisingly) more popular then *flatland* 🙂 Anyway, I am serious about 24 revs being the minimal number of revolutions in a 50m-1f race, but I am not serious about this number being a _learning goal_ 🙂
I gotcha, that makes sense. I’m actually not surprised that it would be more popular than flatland. Flatland I think is a bit more technical (meaning it requires a wide variety of skills, whereas 50m 1 ft requires you to just be good at that). And 30m wheel walk is probably too technical for most people hence the lower participation.
@@theunicycleguytamu Your logic might be right here but there are definitely more factors influencing participation numbers. For example, at Unicons IUF Slalom is the most popular track event since 2014. It is arguably more technical than 100m/400m/800m races but still more popular. I have some explanation ideas but that is too off-topic.
I gotcha. I think the difference here is degree of technicality. Slalom requires that you have good control of the unicycle whereas track races require you to just be able to ride in a straight line and make slight turns. I don’t think slalom is that much more technical than track races. Freestyle and flatland are hard to be good at. It takes a lot of repetition as well as varying your skill set. Having never done freestyle myself, I do a lot of those tricks so I know the learning curve. Yes, slalom is more technical than track races but the gap in skill level required is very small when compared to other disciplines like freestyle and flatland. I would say that freestyle and flatland are WAY more technical than slalom. Being able to simply ride a unicycle and navigate around cones making sharp turns is impressive, but people that do freestyle and/or flatland don’t get anywhere near the credit they deserve imo. It is hard stuff. I think it’s the drastic increase in technical skill required for freestyle/flatland that reduces the number of participants. For slalom, the increase in technical skill required isn’t enough to reduce participants and may actually encourage higher participation.
Wow😳🤟🏽🤟🏽👍🏼👍🏼
Woohoo 🙌 👏👏

You've done it ! Congratulations ❤❤👍🙌
Did it have anything to do with getting inspiration from Unicon21
Thanks man! It had everything to do with getting inspiration from Unicon 21 lol! Watching and competing in flatland has inspired me to train unispins more.
@@theunicycleguytamu can share if there was maybe a tweak or 2 in technique that you have learnt that tipped you to your success in 360?
@@jokersingam practice just the spin (stand on the ground and practice spinning the uni 360 degrees at the same speed/accuracy you would need for the real thing). Other than that it's all commitment. I'm still having trouble committing consistently, but working through it. The hardest part for me is committing to landing my front foot on the crank. What helped me is thinking about bringing that front foot in. Good luck!
