EP 7: Paro To Haa Valley Via Chelela Pass | Bhutan Airport | Local Bhutanese Meal | Paro Market
Embark on a scenic day trip from Paro to the picturesque Haa Valley, taking in the breathtaking views at Chelela Pass - one of Bhutan's highest motorable points. Along the way, we shared local treats with our guide and driver, enjoying traditional flavors and good company as we traveled through the clouds and forested landscapes. After exploring Haa, we returned to Paro, where we ended the day on a sweet note with the most delicious cream horns from a local bakery. Join us for this journey filled with stunning sights, authentic Bhutanese food, and unforgettable moments!

All Monument Entry Fees and timings curriesanstories.blogspot.com/2024/09/bhutan-monuments-entry-fee-and-timing.html?m=1
I love how Bongs try to save on everything but loosen their purse when it comes to traveling. Nice blogs sister .
I feel travelling is an eternal love for all Bengalis for a long time. The entire year we look forward to those few days where we can take a break from our mundane lives and spend a few days exploring a new place. No matter from what strata the people belong to, you will find most of the Bengali folks really keeping aside a dedicated budget for travel and food because these are the two things that keep us going 🙂. Thanks for stopping by 🙏
I had booked this trip via a local travel agent - Amedewa Tours & Treks. September till May end is considered as the peak season and June onwards its the low season, so hotel prices were a tad cheaper as we travelled in June. I will not be able to give the exact hotel cost breakup as it was part of package but can give you a rough estimate of hotel costs ( also I have put a separate video on the detailed reviews and info about the hotels where we stayed during this trip). 1. Total Tour Cost : Rs. 114000/ 2 pax - 50% has to be paid first and then before trip starts you pay remaining amount. For any local agents, Indians need to deposit the amount in an Indian bank number and from there they transfer it to their own account. This is the standard operating procedure. ( Includes : Pickup from Bagdogra to Phuentsholing | Guide & Driver charge for 6 nights 7 days | SDF | e-Permit | 3 & 4 star Hotel | Breakfast | Dinner) 2. Driver & Guide Tips - This is completely up to you based on the service you received. Rs 200-400 per person ( guide/driver) per day is considered decent 3. Tipping at restaurants/ hotels - again this is completely your choice. In hotels where i loved the service I would give Rs. 50 - Rs 100 per attendant based on my experience. 4. Water bottle - Rs 20 / 1 liter , cheaper if you buy in bulk. Hotels provide a couple of bottle of water ( 500 Ml) 5. Lunch - Roughly consider Rs 500 per person/ per day. This is considering you take set menu. If you go for Ala carte then price may go up. 6. Souvenir shopping - Thimphu handicraft market has cheaper options for gifting compared to paro market. However there is a point in Paro near the river bed, where there a small souvenir shop, that lady sells amazing stuffs at dirt cheap prices. Ask your guide and they will know. Souvenir items range from Rs 50 ( key chains, magnets, etc) to more expensive stuffs ( bags, shawls etc.) 7. Travel Insurance - just before June this was made optional in Bhutan. However I had got the travel insurance from India. Roughly Rs. 480 - 700 range will give you enough coverage. 8. Emergency Funds - ATMs wont work. Everything is cash based so factor in enough emergency fund per person so that there is no challenge after reaching Bhutan. however I have heard in case any tourist face a difficulty the guides help with cash which can be refunded to them once you cross the phuentsholing border and get access to any Indian ATM. 9. Monument entry fees : This is going to be the most expensive thing among all. Entry fees are steep and you cant avoid them. The monument entry charges are not included in package. I have put up a detailed blog post with all the monument entry fees and timings on my blog page. I will leave the link here (curriesanstories.blogspot.com/2024/09/bhutan-monuments-entry-fee-and-timing.html). All Monument Entry Fees and timings curriesanstories.blogspot.com/2024/09/bhutan-monuments-entry-fee-and-timing.html?m=1
9. Meal 1 of Trying to eat Healthy series From today I will try to experiment with various salads and healthy meals as part of my weekday lunch. These meals will be easy to prep and tasty so that you don't get bored of eating salad. There will be multiple variations with same ingredients. This mela came together under 20 mins. Couscous and Chicken bowl with veggies _________________________________________ Couscous - 50 gm Chicken - 1 thigh piece Baby Carrot - 2 Zatar spice mix - 1 tbsp Garlic - 4-5 cloves Pepper - 5-6 crushed Butter - 1 tsp Cheese slice (optional) - 1/2 slice Cucumber - 1 small Onion - 1/2 small Tomato - 1/2 small Corriander - 1/4 cup chopped Red chilli powder - 1/4 tsp Salt as per taste Oil for shallow frying Chicken stock/ vegetable stock / water as per packet instructions for couscous 1. Peel the carrot skin and then blanch the carrots. Reserve the water. 2. Marinate the clean chicken breast with zatar spice mix, salt, crushed garlic, pepper crushed. Let it sit for one hour in the fridge. 3. Chop all the vegetables in small pieces - cucumber, onion, tomato, corriander. 4. Cut the carrot in half 5. Take a pan and add some oil. Once oil is hot add the marinated chicken pieces in one layer. Add the carrots by making some space on the side. Sear it on high heat for 1 minute and then lower the flame and let it cook in its own juice. Cover and cook. Flip in between to get even browning on both sides 6. No take a deep pot and add water or stock as per packet instructions. Add salt and a knob of butter. Let the water come to a boil and add the couscous. Now let this summer for about 15 minutes or untill the couscous is al dente and water is soaked up. Now turn off the flame and add half slice of cheese. The residual heat will melt the cheese. Keep it covered till you are ready to eat. 7. Now take the chicken and carrot out. In the remaining oil add the onion, tomato, crushed garlic, red chilli powder and toss it for 3-4 minutes till the onions wilt. Now add this mixture to the couscous. The cheese would have melted by then. Mix everything together. 8. Now assemble everything in a bowl. Couscous first. Then place the chicken. Then place cucumbers, carrots and sprinkle coriander leaves on top. #couscoussalad #couscousrecipe #grains #lunchbox #lunchideas #weekdaylunch #curriesnstories07 #easylunchideas #easylunchrecipes #healthyfood #healthyfoodideas #chickenmealprep #chickenmeal #chickenonepotmeal #onepotmeals

Do these hotels have Lifts / escalators or are they wheelchair friendly ?
@@nithyarc hello, i will mention hotelwise: 1. Gakyil - they have lifts and entrance is also not on elevated area so wheelchairs should be able to navigate 2. Dhumra - all its rooms are on ground floor so inside the property no issues. But to enter the gate of the resort as you would have seen there are a few flight of stairs and also there is no seperate wheelchair accessible ramp apparently. But you can check with the property owners directly if there is any way a wheelchair accessible option can be enabled. 3. Olathang - we stayed in the cottages wherein again u need to go down a few steps to reach. However inside the main building also there are some rooms available. I had not explored that area but you can check with the hotel if they have a lift facility inside. Since its a heritage property so chances are less for a lift but nonetheless check once with the property. Hope this helps.
@@BarnaliBiswasBB thank you so much. Very useful information to take parents
Can you also suggest on safety for women trips ? And will a guide travel all along ?
@@nithyarc Bhutan has made it mandatory to have a guide accompany the tourists at all time. This happened after an unfortunate event at Chelela pass wherein some rouge tourists danced on top of the stupas. So now its 100% mandated. You can get both male or female guides, however male guides are more common. There is absolutely no safety concerns even if you are travelling with a male guide and a male driver even if you are an all girls group. These guides are all registered guides and they will always carry their ID cards, as a mandate. Lots of female only groups are there and there is no issues. I travelled with my mom, only two of us, initially I also had same question but my tour agent assured me there is no reason of any concern and he was correct. If you are visiting Bhutan first time, I would suggest you book it via any local tour agency like I did and they will ensure everything is taken care. You need to tell them about any specific preferences in terms of rooms as you will have senior citizen. If your parents are not having any mobility issues then even without lift they will be able to go up one or two flight of stairs. Just carry a walking stick as in Bhutan you will be climbing a lot of stairs at time when getting into any Dzong or Monastry.
@@nithyarc I am also penning down many useful informations and details in my blog page curriesanstories.blogspot.com/p/travelogues-of-asia.html?m=0. You can check that out also for some additional tips and things to take care. Let me know in case you have further questions.

Awesome video, just great.... Is September is good to visit this Valley..?
Hello, it depends on the weather conditions. Ideally till September the roads are open for tourists. Once the winter season starts and snowfall starts then the approach road gets closed. It's always better to check the weather conditions that year before you plan for gurez. You can either call any hotel in that area for latest weather updates or check with the official jktdc tourist information centers. But if you really want to enjoy gurez go around june mid to august. Lots of greenary around and everything looks spectacular
