Broken hooter whistle?
Ddgdcgcvggb😢
Sounds like N&W 1218 and it’s brothers and sisters of class!
Yas
1218 gave himself an idea to trick 11.
It sounds like AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA 0:14 1:12
Some friends and I were chasing 1309 during the parade of steam at Cass that weekend. While driving back to Cumberland, one of them was watching some videos from POS and when I heard the mocking bird whistle, I turned to him and said “What was that?!?!” He told me he wasn’t entirely sure what it was other than the fact it was called a mocking bird whistle. Definitely the strangest whistle I’ve ever heard.
Second whistle sounds beautiful. Cosby or a buckeye? Awesome sound. The mockingbird whistle is unique
This sounds like a fucking kazoo.😂
Slide Whistle
That’s diffrwnt

Great catches cool chase and nice video
Great catches and video
11 is goin through puberty
Wow
Omg I love Hooter whistles
So strange sounding but so cool as well!
Wish I could modulate my own voice as much! xD
Omg what is with shay 11 whistle 10:18 Sound like a broken single note to me..
It’s a Mockingbird fire whistle, it has a slide valve to change the pitch.
Sounds like a sliding whistle for a steam engine
4501 and 630 should both be painted in green!
@Ethan Schmid and 1702 and 610
0:13 Why did it pitch up?
That's how its designed.
Goofy ahh whistle
These are very well done vignettes of Virginia's Amtrak action, but there's no reason why you can't extend just a little bit and be just as professional as Hollywood. Ad subtitle locations to each so that your viewers can see where they are.
That caught me off guard. XD
Awesome catch!!! This whistle has been in the Cass vaults for years now….typically from my understanding, the pitch is controlled by a second cord. Artie Barkley used to run this (same?) Mockingbird on Shay #5 occasionally many moons ago….
Jim Mitchell was lucky ua-cam.com/video/ZGyIDumxyjM/v-deo.html
What was the other whistle on the engine that was out of view?
That Reading Northern logo on the steam engine's front end looks very similar to the classic Reading Lines logo.
That steam engine's bell sounds very nice. The camera angles used in this video are very professional. Fantastic job!
Is that your whistle, or does it belong to Cass? I think that particular "Mockingbird" whistle is the perfect size because its deepest sound resembles the N&W or C&O hooters. I wish we had one at the tourist railroad I volunteer at. I imagine it must be a thrill to play while you're at the throttle!
As far as i know, it does belong to Cass or the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad. I really like it, it's very unusual but a lot of fun.
How does it change pitch so much?
is controlled by the driver whos pulling the whistle cord.
if is pulled way too hard, the whistle will tend to squeal or if is pulled too quick then it will. but either that is how they can squeal whist;e
The original whistles were made by Lunkenheimer for use as fire alarms. It is a single chime whistle with a slide in the bell that is controlled separately from the whistle cord. The following video is the best visual explanation I could find. ua-cam.com/users/shortsQqkXr3qazV4?feature=share
Great Video!
Does sound definitely like a kazoo.
Nice video. Was able to attend and do a video myself. It was a great day!
I really like this video!!;thanks for sharing!!!- tim
Without out a doubt the strangest whistle I've ever heard. Almost sounds like a kazoo.
And occasionally it almost sounded like a sliding whistle
A hooter whistle had a stroke and created that
The original design was made by Lunkenheimer lol
Yup, for use as fire alarms.
Beautiful Pocahontas County, West Virginia!! Love Cass!!
Awesome video! 5:45 first coach third window back thats my elbow! :)
Pretty cool to have this in my town in Everett PA. Interesting history behind it all.
very nice
Awesome place. So much fun

Me too! 😜
Can you tell me where this video was shot?? Great job!! Love that whistle!!
Thanks! This video was shot on the Reading & Northern Railroad between Reading, Pa. and Jim Thorpe, Pa. The whistle was from a Reading G3 Pacific.
@@DixieRailVideos no! the whistle was from the actual engine!
Oh wow. That's me in the gray shirt at 3:02
Nice video! I rode that day and I think I was standing next to you when 1309 entered Cumberland.
Have they not yet fixed the rail line down to Cass?
As of now, the track is complete, but they are waiting on steel to finish the last bridge. They say it shouldn't be much longer.
Love those small rural town railroad videos!
