hello, first of all thank you for the tutorial. I have a big homewo to simulate 2D of a river in Afghanistan using RAS MAPPER, HEC-RAS. I downloaded the geotiff file (DEM) of the river from USGS. before I start working with RAS MAPPER, I need to project the dem file and change the dem tif file to image. It can be done by QGIS. I have tried but it does not work. Could you please help me out with this regard. just send me your email, I will send you the dem file. I need the file to be projected to A coordinate system. Or if you already made any tutorial in this regard let me know. thank you very much.
Hi Najibullah - my apologies that this one is getting out of date, but your workflow should be possible in two steps with QGIS "Raster" menu: 1. Raster --> Projections --> Warp (this will reproject) 2. Raster --> Conversion --> Translate You'll still need to do some raster styling to make the output look the way you want it to. This section of a different tutorial might work for you: ua-cam.com/video/xB-cT_9TwJQ/v-deo.htmlm1s

Fascinating dataset from the FEC! csvkit and postgres from the command-line -- very cool and very powerful. At around 27:00 mins, interesting to note for the party affiliation comparison that even though total dollar amounts for dem and rep are comparable, dems are out-donating in terms of the number of individuals making contributions by 2-1. Good stuff! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for checking it out man!
the font style is pretty cool he says.....
Im sorry, a have a lot of trouble with mapbox, how can you help me? its not so hard for you im sure! very thanks!!!!
+Switch Grafico Web Mapbox has released some great documentation since I put up this video - you should check it out: www.mapbox.com/help/create-a-static-map/
+Bill Morris Very Thanks Bill, nice guide!
Even with your bug, this video was still very helpful!!! Thank you for uploading!
Thanks for the video. Are waypoints from gps units any good for recording things such as locations of plants that may be within feet of each other (with the mind to create a map of their distribution in qgis) ?
+cardiacade Unfortunately that totally depends on the accuracy of the GPS unit. A standard iPhone GPS won't have the level of precision you need, but it's possible to manually correct the points afterwards using aerial imagery (OpenTreeMap uses this approach: blog.opentreemap.org/2014/08/26/12-great-questions-about-otm-mobile-apps/). The more expensive option is to use a survey-grade GPS, but those can run to many thousands of dollars.
Helped a lot. Thorough explanation. Thanks!
This is very outdated...
+Ron Mac Quarrie You are quite correct :)
can i create an offline map for an offline android app i want to develop using mapbox? i want to do a commuters guide app and i want to use an offline map.
+Neal Francis Comilan Looks like it's on their roadmap - the Mapbox strategy guy weighed in personally (a rare occurrence) on this very long thread about offline maps: github.com/mapbox/mapbox-gl-native/issues/584#issuecomment-155845085
Hey, thank you for uploading the video. Is it possible to import a kml file (kml file from google maps engine) to the mapbox studio?
Hello, great work! i can't find the "tooltip contents" where you put an image on 3:44. i'm a journalist and want to put news of different areas
+Marios Kalogeropoulos They've changed the UI a bit - now it's listed as "description": www.dropbox.com/s/pomlzxh7xbcb5l1/Screenshot%202015-10-13%2016.48.19.png?dl=0
+Bill Morris Thank you very much for your answer. Βut i still have problem. I put at the "description", the example code you send me : <img width="250px" src:“www.greenacres.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/blog-wheat.jpg”> Then i put save and i didnt see the photo up to the marker again. Do you know why? Thank you very much.
+Marios Kalogeropoulos Looks like some nitpicky HTML; the doublequotes got turned into backticks on your keyboard, and the "src" option needs to be followed with "=" instead of ":" This should do the trick (note the differences): <img width="250px" src="www.greenacres.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/blog-wheat.jpg"/>
+Bill Morris Thank you very much. Ι am a journalist and not a programmer as you see. Did you know if i can put a link instead a photo? Ι want to put news at the marker. And when the user click it, send him to journalism site. Something like a hyperlink or a ref at the html language.
+Marios Kalogeropoulos You'll pick it up as you go :). Looks like you want an anchor tag: developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Element/a. Something like this: <a href="www.reuters.com/article/2015/10/15/us-mideast-crisis-syria-homs-idUSKCN0S90JG20151015">Syrian army and Russian jets target rebel towns north of Homs</a>
why doesn't my tooltip image appear when I hover? I have the code in correctly - it shows up but doesn't appear when I hover over my marker.
+Yasmin Amer I take back my earlier comment about it working fine - it looks like they changed the UI, but more importantly set the default behavior to show the tooltip only on click. That means you'll have to use the mapbox.js library to play with the basic map interface. Here's an example of images in tooltips that appear on hover: bl.ocks.org/wboykinm/b6e82800999d08140db3
What if you want to do an intersect between two vector files with different projections?
+christopher saunders You first have to choose which projection is better-suited to your map/analysis, the reproject the non-matching vector file to that projection like so: www.northrivergeographic.com/qgis-reprojecting-vector-data. This is a bit of a hassle, but it's important for reasons of geoprocessing accuracy to have all your data speaking the same geographic language. Once you've matched the two layers in the same projection, you can proceed with the intersect operation: infogeoblog.wordpress.com/2013/01/08/geo-processing-in-qgis/
The 5 second text version: * Set preview to cache. * Lock layers. * Layout overview map. * Add new map. .... hmmmm not using the overview map feature.... Well that's 2.5mins of my life I won't get back.
Very good tutorials! In your opinion, what is better to do online or shareable maps? Mapbox, Google Mapas or CartoDB? Thanks!
+MataGigantes WOW - many apologies to have missed this for a year. But your question is still as complicated as it was then :) Basically you'll find that they all serve slightly different purposes - Mapbox is great for fairly static data and beautiful cartography, Google has unmatched APIs (geocoding being the biggest differentiator), and CartoDB is the perfect tool for mapping datasets that change a lot or require geoprocessing.
Error in the narrative: 1 arc second on the surface of the earth is about 30 meters, 1/3 arc second is about 10 meters, 1/9 arc second is about 3 meters.
Good call - I was pulling things out of my poorly-organized brain catalog.
