On the second battle of the fifth mission, we just hunt U-boats. Thankfully, we don't have to contend with stray merchants or icebergs. Air support would be appreciated, though.

Excellent analysis
O think you're confused. Once a U-boat was forced under, it didn't take "days" to hunt them down. U-boat batteries need air to run the engines that charge them, and no U-boat is going to run on the surface or deploy a snorkel when being actively prosecuted by ASW forces.
I like this alot, Dung Hoi is the easiest
Wow watching you play the game gives the wrong impression its easy to underdstand and master 😅 pretty impressed i am.subbed
There is ballistic missile submarines in the game, just not the US Ohio class or the Russian Typhoon class. The Typhoon class may eventually get added but there is higher priority items on their to do list. Cutoff date for the game per developers is end of 1985 for units to be in fully widespread operational use, not just when it entered service. The AGM-88 anti-radiation missile not being included and only the AGM-45 Shirke being present because of this is one key reason why. Janes Fleet Command even though it is over 20 years old when using the Naval Warfare Project mod is probably a better predecessor to play overall than Command Modern operations, this is especially so since it is the only effective multiplayer platform present. Multiplayer player vs player is where this genre really excels at. I am fully aware of the limitations and over-simplification of certain aspects of Janes Fleet Command but it still for the most part is the most similar to Sea Power overall in mechanics and simulation. Additionally Janes Fleet Command is a good mission editing testbed for evaluating scenario creation ideas for Sea Power and testing them out in both games.
That bug you mentioned at the beginning, where your strike crafts simply disappear between missions, also happened to me and I lost a TON of bombers entering this mission. It sucks so much
Dude, the crysis is crazy game! I remember when i played in a second part, but i absolutely sure that my dumb pc won't run the 3rd part. Now i in choice of cloud gaming service, the price of Boosteroid more comfortable for me then on other platforms. Maybe you can a record a review of some AAA demanding games on it? It would be very useful for me
Gaming + history lesson by an expert, can't go wrong. That was a good run indeed
I was in the Navy myself, a Fire Controlman. You describing the history and changes to the Fletchers was interesting to me.
I had one battle that lasted around 2 hours.
if only they had a campaign mode! That would make this a perfect game for me. A way to run the war frm theater to theater to the end of the war.
Is this game ever going on the market or what? Almost 10 yrs i've been these demo vids for this non game.
I failed this for 10 times. Mostly because enemy planes got close before planes took off . Also I lost one because I marked all as hostile
38:50 is hilarious
Saved me 300
Maximum cool. Time a reboot r sequel. A GOOD sequel.
Hello
Where is the Crew?
Silent and invisible. Just the way the admiral likes 'em.
It seems like you were asleep in the game.
Firstly, all of my commentary is done in post so I can focus on playing the game rather than blabbering on. I can't stand let's players who do nothing but scream into the microphone. Secondly, much of my training as a sailor has taught me to remain calm in a crisis. It merely comes off as sounding disinterested. Thirdly, I have very limited time to play games and devote to this gaming channel. Most of my time is filled with work, research, and writing. So if I come off as sounding a bit tired, then I may very well be. I'm not the most entertaining of commentators, but I'm a good researcher and I'm level-headed in a crisis.
You should deploy some units at the merchant ships.
My friend, I commend you for making a video, but please, for us noooobs, don't describe history etc, describe exactly what you are doing and why. Like using sonar to do this, and now using DRT to do that, o OSC to do this.....
Like the vid bro, keep it up. I like the lore you included along the mission.
Thanks for this
YT read my mind today apparently because I was thinking about this map today and you were suggested to me. Good stuff.
5:45 Love this bit, coming down through the cloud cover into the flak with the Japanese carrier group arrayed in front of you. Can't wait to get my hands on this game!
You can say what you like about the Battlestations games, but they were my introduction to the world of WW2 in general and wargaming in particular, so they're alright by me.
"Before assassins creed became the whole thing and that's all they do now." As much as I would love an American sub sim to follow in the footsteps of SH4, I am SO THANKFUL that Ubisoft is not making Silent Hunter games anymore. Because you just know it would be some weird Skull n Bones deal where you "customize your sub" by tacking all sorts of weird, spikey BS all over it while rapid-firing torpedoes in all directions.
I would like to play another game that plays as well as sh4/sh3
@@benhebert2322 Well it's like... We've got Uboat, Wolfpack and others for the Uboat side of things. I'd like to get back into fleet boats without trying to make Windows XP-era software behave.
look for Silent Depth 2 currently in development by Triassic Games / Microprose
Former Surface Warfare Officer here. This is a good game. Here are some comments about real life anti-submarine warfare........ 1) Lookouts are NOT that enthusiastic 2) Ship Captains do NOT speak that pleasantly. Think of Jack Nicholson on "A Few Good Men" but meaner. 3) There is usually 15% confusion between the bridge, CIC and Sonar. False reports abound. 4) General Quarters is pretty accurate. Everyone's pucker factor increases to 1000. 5) All of those GQ reports and Helmsmen repeats are accurate. Your ad libs are hilarious!

Nice video, I think you are right, one trick pony. It needs to start and end in a port. There needs to be more story as you say. I find the subs can move at warp speed where in reality the Fletcher would be on them pretty fast. Hope you do more on this game it doesn't get much attention. Cheers 😊
And so, the K'had Sajuuk was slain by the same fate that befell the home of Rachel's brother; DUNE COLLAPSE. Yep, thats canon now.
Huh. It really IS just naval warfare...on sand.
The XO and captain meeting at start on mission 1 determines your other play through conditions seems to be randomized weather and air support. Not sure about U boat activity
Do you need to sacrifice so the strike fighters like that or can you just...slow-crawl ground forces forward to hammer them until t hey run out of ground units? Plus the inevitable "steal every Siege Cruiser you can get your hands on" bit
13:34 you dropped the depth charges way too early, on that graph, wait till the bars hit the black dotted line on the left before rolling charges when you are confident you are in the correct position.
Looks like Lerch 😂
Just wanted to say that this video and the one for mission 13 helped me to finish homeworld 2 today! Keep up the great work :)
Oldie but goldie
Oh, i definitely want a big box wich then sits next to my other MicroProse big boxes from the 80s and 90s.
In WW2, the Japanese and Americans learned quickly, that assuming a carrier is sunk just cuz a lisp or bad fires was not a good idea. Early war carrier and especially at Midway, carriers were assumed sunk but miraculously stayed afloat or limped back to shore. So what they started doing (mainly US cuz they could) was just absolutely wrecking something until it was below the waves, so they could really make sure it was wrecked.
I think zeroes in particular did indeed employ steep climbs/chandelles after a firing pass to set up another one, taking advantage of their excellent rate of climb and handling at near-stall speeds. But, they wouldn't be able to without building up a decent amount of energy, i.e. after diving in for a pass. These planes are approaching at a seeming snail's pace! I also don't like the look of the ineffectiveness of the air combat, several zeroes getting in right behind the bombers here with none shot down is wildly unrealistic.
another great demonstration of the quality of this game. cannot wait till i can play it. as to your question regarding damage and when ships and aircraft will stop attacking ships i have asked it in the games discord
I hope in the release, there will be npc's manning the guns.
I think that was either a feature on their roadmap or it was a goal for their kickstarter
Can't wait
Here's how I did it: Two Neptunes against the RFS Moskva (which is set on the lowest most incompetent skill setting). The ship is in total EMCON (no radars/sensors on) and is in very bad weather. The two missiles are only detected when they turn on their active seekers but the RFS Moskva's skill level is too incompetent and slow to intercept it and it is hit by both, inflicting 40% damage and starting fires. The fires rage out of control combined with bad seas and the ship sinks.
Thank you for a wonderful playthrough....loved your take on the game...a sub here easily! ..cheers
Thanks so much for this
Did they really use absolute bearings in WWII? Is there an in game option to change bearings to relative?
Yes, because using true bearings is better for coordinating assets within the task force, whereas relative bearings only applies to your ship. If you give radio calls using relative bearings, it creates confusion as to direction. The in-game option for relative bearings is on the sonar page. That said, the external views still give true bearings.
Some very nice shots and scenes from one of your playthroughs Commander. Thank you for sharing. I've had similar brutal kill counts in several of my runs as well :)
thank you for this and the other videos. they have shown the insane level the game has gone to and i cannot wait till its release
thank you for your support Toby!
