Al has been a great inspiration to me , Caledon wood is one of my favourite tunes amongst many of his remarkable works. . He shared his knowledge of the guitar of open tunings which showed me a whole new magical world of guitar playing .He wasn't frightend to show you his secrets and guitar tricks helping you become a better player. I will always remember and be grateful for that.

RIP dad. This video shows his personality really well. Thanks for sharing!! I remember many trips to Larry’s house, crab bakes and hot tubs and playing with the Amish kids. 💔 now they are making guitars today in heaven or wherever they may be
Glad to have known him when we were youngsters in college.
Master of the guitar. The tones are just thrilling.....RIP AL
Al always inspired me to learn Dadgad,, I have his homespun double dvd set from over a decade ago.. he'll be missed but he left us much to fall back on ! rip Al Petteway
The North Carolina hills don't feel the same without Al. 😔
You could say that al was privileged to play guitars made by the best I say they were privileged that he played them god bless to all his family and friends what a player and a lovely man
I knew Al since the first the time I heard him play in Maryland in 1994. Ms. Lee and I were both shocked and saddened when we heard. Several years after my kids were born in 94. (inMd.) I made a baby/kid video and the entire sound track was his “Waters and the Wild” Album. I finally got to tell him that story a couple of years ago now at Sally’s house (you know if you know). We just can’t believe he’s gone. He was kind and humble, and man could he play!
Learned about this guy today from Andy McKee's Facebook post about his passing. Very sad to hear but I'm happy that I learned who this musician is. This is beautiful. Rest in peace brother
So very sad to learn of Al's passing today. He was amazingly talented and will be greatly missed.

Amazing. I'm sorry you are gone. I've never heard of you until a friend spoke of you today. After listening all morning I can say that I'm blessed you were here. May the beauty of your artistry live forever. RIP my friend. You're with the angels now.❤

AND OUT OF ALL THE PEOPLE I KNOW WHO LISTEN TO THESE SORT OF CREATIONS IN ALL THE TIME I SPENT IN A PLACE CALLED RADIO DOCTORS.. NO ONE EVER MENTIONS THE RAREST PEARL OF ALL RECORDINGS CALEDON WOODS OMG GUYS SOME OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL STUFF FOR THE SOUL.. FIND IT HEAR IT CHERISH IT SHARE IT IT'S THAT INCREDIBLE.. I HAVE TO WONDER WHY BACK IN THE DAY WINDHAM HILL NEVER ASKED HIM TO JOIN AND IF THEY HAD WHY WOULD HE HAVE TURNED THEM DOWN HE BELONGS IN A GROUP OF GUITAR WIZARDS THAT ARE VERY FEW AND SOME THAT WILL NEVER HEAR FROM AGAIN SORRY JUST.. WITHOUT A WAY CREATES FEELS LIKE THAT PERFECT RAINY DAY FEELING WITH ALL THAT COMES WITH IT
LISTENING TO EL PETTAWAY AN ALBUM SUCH AS CALEDON WOODS. NO MATTER THE WEATHER IT ALWAYS BRINGS OUT THE CALM AND THAT'S 75° FEELING THAT EVERYTHING IS JUST RIGHT. ONE OF A HANDFUL OF GUITAR WIZARDS I ABSOLUTELY SPENT A LOT OF TIME WITH LISTENING TO IT'S ALWAYS FRESH NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES YOU'VE PLAYED IT. IT'LL MAKE YOUR DAY IT'LL HELP YOU SLEEP NIGHTS.. THE MAN EL PETTAWAY IS A TRUE DREAM GENIUS
