50mm F1.2 by ArtraLab
I am not a fan of manual lenses; but this lens from @labartra4367Artralab is a fun lens to shoot with. Premium built quality. What I love best is the character of this lens. Some modern lenses are clinically sharp to a point it felt brittle. This lens creates a vintage looks on your shots. And that make this lens special.

Tamron 11-20mm F2.8. Is this the best 3rd party wide angle lens for X-mount?
TTartisan 35mm, at Voigtlander the price would include a square hood alone.
I’ve been able to maintain my weight-loss success with the balance Normotim provides.
Can you do a comparison to the MKII to the new XF16-50mm? The MTF charts are mostly better for the non-red badge latter!? I guess that may due also, for the telephoto end, the latter is less open. The MTF charts are done at the widest aperture.
Hello Paul, Unfortunately I have return the MK II back to fujifilm. Have a blessed weekend.
I am actually impressed mk1 being launched a decade ago and the quality is still comparable to mk2. The upgrade is mainly on weight and size.
Agreed. That is why I am keeping my MK 1.
@ I dont own any of them, and I am buying a second hand mk1 for ~$600, nearly half the price of mk2.
Doesn’t seem like the hood will protect the filter against the sun (bc the filter is at the very end of the hood). How does it perform in direct sunlight?
So far so good for my own experience. In fact I have been using it for daytime shooting and I am enjoying it. here is a blog post and all the stills are taken with the Squarehood with the haze. fujifanboys.com/blog/oneonly-x-m5-launch/
Thanks for the comparison review!
thank you
classic neg ... But I adjusted it by reducing the contrast a little bit as well and adding a little bit more light to classic neck and pretty much that's my one that I use
That is the beauty of Film Simulation. We could adjust further to our own distinct style. Thanks for sharing.
that Q Button placement make my hand cramp
At any of the extreme scenarios a bigger sensor with a bigger lens will always yield better results. But for 99% of the scenarios, an APSC sensor camera with a good lens (e.g. 56mm F1.2) will yield similar if not identical image quality. An example would be a FF 75mm prime at F1.4, which is pretty much impossible with an APSC sensor camera unless you can find a 50mm F0.9 to match all of its attributes. But how often would you be shooting at FF 75mm F1.4? Depends on your work. For me, I would never shoot like this because I don't get paid for my photos and would be really difficult to even focus and get everything set up to get usable photos with this setting. Not to mention the equipment required to make the full potential of 75mm F1.4!
Rely Like the aesthetics and the bokeh of the Lens but 560g is quit heavy for an manual lens this size - It would be nice to have slightly lighter E-mount version of it.
Just to ask, as I can't find this information anywhere... what is the body made of both in silver and black version? Aluminium? Plastic?
wow! I can't remember. arghh. sorry. will check again for you in 2 days time as we have a launch in Singapore. stay tune
I don't think is metal and the leatherette is also plastic.
No issue with battery. I shoot all day and only take 1 battery. Just activate the plane mode
thanks for sharing.
Viltrox 56mm f1.4 is amazing in terms of IQ, weight and price. Go to that one. Brighting star is still doing meh lenses.
Viltrox 56mm is price at $100 more than Brightin Star and Sigma is price at $100 more than the Viltrox 56mm F1.4. Optically the Viltrox is the winner optically as it's clinically sharper. Both Sigma and Brightin Star approach is little different. It has a more character. More like what Fujifilm, Nikon and Canon lenses. Sony lenses are clinical sharper; just like Viltrox. There is no right or wrong. Just what you are looking for to meet your style. Cheers man!
Bye bye X-T100's and XM5 is so much cheaper and versatile? This move from Fuji is direct pressure from extensive penetration from mobile phone usage plus improved/enhanced features (basic AI features) from Mobile phones plus quality of their lenses.
The timeline difference between this 2 camera is 6 years. I am certain much have change. Again X-M5 is a hybrid camera unfortunately there is no viewfinder. Still a great camera with even greater price point. I am tempted too. Hahaha.
@@FujiFanBoys Currently own Xt100-S and Xt30 should sell both to get this. Then I can get ALL the Modern features from Fuji camera.
@@yttean98 Its a very différent experience. X100 series is still a special camera.
One of the best cameras they ever made.. LOVE mine, for many years now.
Enjoy this great camera!
I own this with my x-s20. I am having autofocus problem when using aperture smaller than 4.. Is it just me?
Try shooting in manual mode and see if you are able to achieve a smaller aperture. If yes; I guess it's your setting.
In these days, when smartphones dominate photography due to their ease of use and compact size, a new version of the X70 makes even more sense. It’s still unclear why they stopped developing that model-perhaps they prefer to focus on selling lenses instead of cameras.
I guess each model of camera is base no market forces. Maybe the X70 market is targeted at us, the photographers. Which maybe too small a market. Say compared with the new X-M5. Which I certain appeal to a larger audience. It is what it is; unfortunately.
Owner of Mk I here, and I don’t think I’ll be upgrading (my money will go instead to the Mk II of the 56mm WR). Had it been an internal zoom design like the 50-140mm, I’d preorder it on Day One. I remember opting once not to bring my 16-55mm to the beach precisely because of the telescoping zoom and brought primes instead.
You have both lenses. If you can shoot 20 seconds product video with your hand to distract the focus with both lenses, we would able to see the autofocus performance.
good idea. Will do that next time! thank you.
@@FujiFanBoys As you know the main problem with the Fuji series in the video department is autofocus. This product targets also videographers actually and without autofocus performance of this new X50, it is nothing. Not worth buying. The kit lense 16-50 is not that good actually. A good deal in terms of price but with real video shoots not just the faces but the objects are crucial. Many people uses phones for that. If you do not have the video lighting that is another problem. I do not have as well. I only have 3 elinchrom professional studio lights but thinking to buy hight CRI led lights for video. May be use it in photography. Actually seeing the scene close to the final image would be nice. However, for product shots using this machine would be nice. The main concern is the autofocus in video. Fuji has a chronic problem with that regardless of the camera body. I will buy the body probably buy with the kit lens or with this new II version lens is not clear now.
I purchase the new 23. I don't know if its my copy but its not that sharp and misses focus at 1.4. I use a xt4 body. What do you think? Did some of you have the same experience that it's not quite sharp at 1.4.
A simple test; mount your camera on a tripod and do a manual focus on a still subject.
how is it if I use it with viltrox 75mm?
how is it if I use it with viltrox 75mm?
It's a small camera but you can still use it. The question is for how long. As the balance will not be there. Again, it is what it is.
Thanks for the video, I wonder if the mark ii have less distortion at 16mm and 55mm than mark I. Uncorrected.
Sadly, no actual resolution test and distortion and chromatic abberations tests.
please, place the OLD thing on the left side and the NEW thing on the right side of the screen when comparing. That's a mind standard, another behaviour frustrates!
What focal length is that viewfinder??
It's a 28mm view. by TTartisan
Are they doing to make again the XE line?
I don't know but I certainly hope so.
Not the same price as the mk 1 in France : huge difference actually !
wow. How much is increase?
+22.7% i.e €250
It looks nice… Too bad I was never into the silver versions if cameras z
In fuji land, the beeping sound doesn't necessarily mean 'focus nailed'. Hard to tell from yhe video whether AF was accurate or not but great to see some significant reduction in weight. Can't wait to see a full prod copy review.
This is true especially in the early days. these days they have improved much and this issue much much lesser. cheers
what color does everyone like? black or silver?
I prefer black.
There’s nothing beginner about those video specs.
I only have 2 primes for my T5 at this time....liking the focal range and new upgrade of this lens...This is on my Buy list, nice review
thank you for your encouragement.
$900 is cheap? damn the camera companies really manipulated everybody haha//
I was able to score a slightly used MK1 for $500 USD. Definitely keep an eye out for deals on FB marketplace
Nice. do check well as this lens is almost 10 years old. Try to find out how old. happy hunting.
No point in upgrading really. The 16-55 is the best ever wide to mid zoom. If you have the Mk1 stick with it. If you're new to this by all means get the Mkii, only pixel peepers will tell the difference and even then they could get it wrong. The smart choice is to get the mki at discounted prices once the Mkii is established.
Would be good to compare the mk ii with the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 . I believe the Sigma is still smaller
It's about 30% smaller and lighter. I've used the Sigma 18-50 more than any other lens, but I think I'll probably buy the new 16-55 and sell the Sigma. For me personally having one lens without an aperture ring is pretty annoying, and I'd like the extra range for sure. I found the first 16-55 too big, but this is small enough to be compelling.
"This tiny lens"???
Thanks for the test! One thing I’m curious about is distortion; did you notice any barrel or pin cushion distortion? Thanks!
As the owner of Mark one, I don’t see any real reason to upgrade, as it didn’t seem any sharper to me, but it makes me feel like my old version is still quite good, just a little heavier!
I won't be upgrading it too. As I don't use much of this lens. I have a friend who is a professional and he own the MK I and he has decided to upgrade not because of the slight sharper glass. ( yes, its also sharper at the edges) But the size and weight is the main reason for him, as he uses this lens on a daily basis. Cheers and that make 2 of us holding on to MK I. I was joking to a friend that the reason why MK I is so heavy is because of the solid sliver ring. Haha.
@@FujiFanBoys I like you use mostly primes for street photography and use the zoom for nature and travel.
@@simon359 i also own the mark 1. People complain about the weight of the mk1, but to me, it lighter and smaller than my canon 24-70mm 2.8 which i have been using for weddings for many years. Unless the mk2 produces an image that can justify the $$$ diff. In Australia, the mk 2 is price around 2k AUD. If i will be lucky to sell my mk1 for 1k AUD, i still need to spend another 1k which may not be justifiable for my use case.
Great review! Sold!
Thank you.
What a funny autofocus test. Try tracking in video and your xh2 will make you lose your patience in 5 minutes
Unfortunately; I don't do video, if we do; most of the time; it's all in manual. LOL. Now you know why I dont use tracking in video. LOL
Bro not trying to be rude, can we go down to the action straight instead of talking. I come here to see the size difference and the output. Your opinion is very insightful but maybe leave it at the conclusion.
thank you fro your feedback.
What are you talking about? This video is awesome.
Where is your UA-cam video?
@@kwtan3814 take this "review" as commercial promo. Looks like ALL reviewers had promised to FUJI not to perform any real image quality tests and talk just "it's awesome!"
@@gigaprose Precisely! It's getting annoying, "Normal" people like us just wanna know the SIZE and IQ of the lens not these mindless blabbering
frankly they both look similar in size (still bulky for the crop sensor systems) pass
Lol
Is this new lens an internal focusing lens?
No. its the same as MK I.
Internal focusing yes, but Not internal zooming.
Awesome! I will buy this with the normal glass because I don’t like the effect of a haze filter. Atm I use the Nisi UHD UV to protect the V lens and got weather resist, but it is ugly and I don‘t have a hood 😂
If I am not wrong Squarehood will be making a version with the Haze filter. Maybe just a UV filter.
@@FujiFanBoys I saw a clear version a few minutes ago in their store! 😍
the black looks very elegant. the overall size is only a tad smaller than XE4 considering it doesn't have evf. hopefully they would release a X70 successor though.
I love the colors in the shots you take fujifanboy!!
You pretty much covered everything awesome video keep it up, brother. Best video on the 16-55 mark 2 ❤
wow! Means a lot to me. Thank you.
If I didn't already have the 16-55mm MK1 I would be waiting for all the used MK1's to flood the market and pick up one very cheap. That's a no brainer!!
