Crows in Winter
This track was composed for a challenge issued by the team at Crow Hill Company to create a piece of music that reflected the theme of Winter and which features their new, free, Vaults instrument "Wavering Choir". So hopefully I have put this lovely new musical tool to good use here. The list of instruments used is as follows:
Crow Hill Company -
VAULTS - Wavering Choir
Dot Allison - Dulcet Voice
Glass Strings
Spifire Audio - Solstice Drone Grid
8DIO Soundpaint - ASMR
Native Instruments - The Giant
I don't know if this counts as chillout music or not..... :)

My Private Nightmares by enlimila

This soundtrack was composed for the Crow Hill composition challenge for November 2024. The task was to create a scary piece of music using Crow Hill's Orchestral FX instrument, which is in their free Vaults range, plus one other randomly chosen Vaults instrument. In my case this was the Chorus Synth. This instrument has always put me in mind of John Carpenter's film music, so I tried to keep h...
Danny is Sleeping
Переглядів 82Місяць тому
A small composition in memory of my friend Danny who recently departed this world too soon. He did much for many throughout his life. It was created almost entirely using Crow Hill instruments (Celeste-a-Tone; Cosmos; String Murmurations; Nocturnal Gestures; Glass Strings; Dot Allison - Dulcet Voice). The one exception was Spitfire Audio's "Fink-Signatures".
Crossing Morocco

My son is currently motorbiking across Morocco with friends, which is what inspired this track and the video. It marks my first use of Crow Hill's new instrument Glass Strings, which I am finding to be rather lovely. Purists in Middle Eastern or North African music will probably be aghast at my lack of adherence to the correct scales or rhythms, but it is meant to be a flavouring rather than a ...
The Drowned Piano Attic Grand only
Переглядів 652 місяці тому
This is v.2 of this track, featuring only the Crow Hill Attic Grand instrument, which is how it should have been in the first place if I had stopped to read the brief properly for the Crow Hill Composition Challenge. The original featured other Crow Hill instruments - which I enjoyed doing, but which was not in line with the brief........ (mea culpa). It would be interesting to hear which versi...

I composed this track for a composer-challenge recently issued by Crow Hill Company to celebrate their free virtual piano instrument "Attic Grand" , which is part of their Vaults Beta range and is soon to be withdrawn from access to the Public. (It's still there at the moment, so be quick to grab a copy if you want it). The brief was to make a sad track, but I decided I didn't want to be too sc...

A composition using the new Crow Hill instrument, Nocturnal Gestures, which provides rich and beautiful brass and woodwind sounds. Given the time of year, the title seemed appropriate..... :)
enlimila - Crow Hill Company CONCUSSION trailer challenge

The Crow Hill Company recently created yet another fabulous instrument - CONCUSSION. It's a meticulously sampled and prepared percussion library with multiple combinations of different individual drum-types available and endless ways to manipulate each one. I got my copy straight away and have been playing about with it since. Now Crow Hill have issued a composer challenge to re-score their mar...
Dot in the Cosmos

A short composition featuring the ethereal vocals of Dot Allison as captured by Crow Hill Company's lovely instrument "Dot Allison - Dulcet Voice", as well as their "Cosmos" instrument. Hence the title and inspiration for the video theme. Hope you enjoy. :)

On the 80th anniversary of D-Day, it's a good time to think about whose lives actually bought you the freedoms you currently enjoy and whether those freedoms are truly cherished by today's politicians and political pundits, or whether they have simply taken us all for fools while they served their own personal and political ends. Don't forget to vote folks! Someone's life paid for that right. A...

This track was composed in response to a challenge from the Crow Hill Company to create a piece of music in whatever style was personal to the composer, but using only the 6 free instruments currently available in Crow Hill's Vaults Beta collection, those being: Drum studio; Chorus synth; Attic Grand; R D strings; Celest-a-Tone; Shimmer Guitar. Crow Hill Company have made another beautiful instrument - "Dulcet Voice" - using the lovely vocals of Dot Allison. It's been much anticipated and was indeed worth the wait. This my first track using it. I find her voice mesmerising, hence the title! Hope you enjoy it. :)

Mysterious Marks
Переглядів 128 місяців тому
This sound track was composed in response to the latest Composer challenge from the Crow Hill Company. The task was to use their Vaults Beta instrument, "Celeste-a-tone", to create a track that reflected a particular mood which would be randomly chosen for each entrant. In my case the mood allocated was "Mysterious". So, my inspiration for this track was the marks that humans have made over the...
Super 👍👏✌️
Thank you for taking time to watch and listen and for the appreciation! 🙂
Thank you so much Mark! I'll DM you on SC.... 👍
Hi Ali, I'm not sure how I missed this one back then. This is so beautiful in every way. I'd like to try to sing this, if you thought it could work. Let me know what you thought. Best to you, Mark
That was definitely me appearing in your nightmares at 0:51 lol... 🤣
haha.... yes... I see the resemblance now :)))). Thanks for having a look/listen.
Hi Ali, YT wouldn't let me click like, but the whole effect was quite scary. Most enjoyed
Hi Mark - thanks for the comment. Hope viewing doesn't spoil your sleep .... :))
Hi Ali, I was in Madeira so missed this release at the time. So glad there was something this beautiful on offer for your friend Danny in music and video form. Thanks for sharing, he sounds a special person to have known. Best to you, Mark
@@markbennett4784 Hi Mark! Hope you both had a great time in Madeira. Thank you for taking time to listen and comment. Glad you thought it was worthy 🫂
Another great version Ali
Thanks for listening again Mark! I wasn't sure if it would work on piano alone, but it seems ok.:)
I'm deliberately not listening to this until I finish writing my own but excited to give it a listen once I'm finished.
Haha! I hope you're not disappointed when you do! Thanks for looking in. Hope yours goes well. :)
Took me back to similar memories of my childhood and the River Mersey; thank you!
The experience of living in or near declining port towns is much the same wherever you look. I'm glad it stirred your memories Kev. Thanks for listening and taking time to comment. :)
Deep! Now where's that towel!!! ; )
Thanks for listening Kev :)
There you go! Right on brief and time well spent, and found! it's a lovely piece and prelude to the other version. Well done and good luck!!!
Thanks v much KG :)
Lovely piece! But like myself, I completed an entry and then went over the brief again before submission. At the very bottom it states; 'Your piece should only feature the Attic Grand'. Currently revising my piece!!!
Dohhh!! Stupid me.... Thank's for the heads-up KG. Well, I've shot my bolt there. Not sure I could pull the piano part out of it in a way that I would still be happy with the result. I might have a go at something else, but probably won't have time now. (Note to self - don't skim read the brief in future....)
@@enlimila I don't know you know, there's some beautiful notation on that Attic Grand. The intro pulls you in and then, that chord progression! You should find the time and have a little edit!!!
Very evocative and your fond farewell feeling is perfect. I'm hearing Sigur Ros because the vocal-like sound reminds me of Jonsi's voice. Great use of this resource Ali and a wonderful composition. Thanks for sharing
Hi there Mark, thank you so much for those kind words. Never thought of the Sigur Ros aspect until you mentioned it but it's lovely to have that comparison 🙂.
Love your work. Great use of brass + woodwinds. The Flugelhorn is a nice touch too! Keep it up.
@@jchoude1903 Thanks indeed for taking time to listen and comment JC. 🙂
gorgeous mood and a really evocative soundscape - it's also made me want to purchase the instrument , thanks for sharing
Thank you so much Giancarlo! Your comments are much appreciated. If you do get the instrument I hope you enjoy using it. I am still exploring... :)
Nice job. Very chill.
Sorry for slow response Kery, but thank you for taking time to view, listen, and leave a comment! :)
Wow, what a powerful use of music and images. So stirring and haunting. Thanks for sharing Ali
Hi Mark! Thanks for the appreciation and taking time to watch and comment. :)
Sorry I'm a little late Ali, but so glad to be hearing this one. Music and visuals work so well together. Thanks for sharing and best to you, Mark
No probs Mark. Thank you as always for looking in and for the kind words :)
Thank you for making this composition and also wonderful demo of the instrument. My understanding (haven't read the manual yet) is there is no tempo sync of the aleatoric or ornamental elements. Was that not a problem here because you are using NG as a centerpiece, or did you work around it? Or conversely, was it inspiring to have this random element introduced into your playing?
Hi Richard! Thank you very much for your kind comment and for taking time to listen. I too, have not read the manual as I just wanted to crack on and experiment with my new toy. I also have String Murmurations and Small String Gestures which I think operate in a similar fashion regarding the aleatoric elements, but I have not worked out where the trigger for these aspects arises - whether it is at a fixed point along the arc or whether some other aspect creates the variations. I wanted the core of the sound to be warm and subdued to reflect that end-of-summer/early autumn feeling, but also to have the unexpected chirps, staccatos, etc to convey a slight dissonance/disruptive element. I found occasions where the random additions were not wanted, so I would shorten the midi-notes to the point before the change occurred and work around it that way. I also used 2 instances of NG each with different settings, one of which was more smooth throughout the arc with less random variations, and swopped between them as necessary to get the sound I wanted. I was not totally satisfied that I had got the best out of this instrument on this occasion, but as it was only my first go with it I pleased to achieve a finished piece with it. :)
So wish i had a camera in the mid sixties before Clyde Steamers began to disappear.. Now i take photos of Calmac and lots of Waverley ofcourse!
When you are young, you don't realise that things will change or fade and disappear. You always expect there will be another chance to get that photo, visit that place, have that conversation. By the time you realise what's going on it's often too late. I had photos from when I lived in Kilcreggan as a young man, and my parents had lots of photos from when we went on trips "Doon the Watter" but I don't know where they've all gone to. Must make time to look for them. Thank you so much for watching/listening and taking time to comment. :)
Brilliant work Ali. Caught the mood so poignantly
Glad you think it works Mark. :) Thanks for looking in.
So evocative both musically and visually. The melody is firmly fixed in my head now. Very beautiful yet hauntingly melancholic. Thanks for sharing Ali
Means a lot to have your approval of the visuals as well as the music Mark! :)
Incredible and certainly mesmeric. Bravo Ali
Thanks so much for having a look/listen Mark. Glad you enjoyed it. Hope you and D are both well! :)
@@enlimila We are both doing pretty well. Best to you and Bridget.
Many, many thanks. Been there, done that, can't do again as it's all gone, but that's life. 😎
Thank you for dropping by Alex :)
??? most of it you can still do on the Waverley.
@@stephenwilson5043Thanks for taking time to watch and comment Stephen. I agree you can get a flavour of what it was like by going on the Waverley, but the excitement of the crowds, the variety of ships (each with it's own characteristics), the quality of the catering on board etc, can't really be reproduced, sadly.
Wow, that is great. Thanks for sharing Ali
Thanks indeed Mark! :)
Great images that accentuate the music wonderfully well. Thanks for sharing Ali

I'm loving what you're doing with music video, Ali!
Thank you so much Dave! That's really nice to hear :) If you ever get any flight video footage like you were contemplating a while ago then let me know. Could be a good collab project in it. :)

Great stuff Ali - can understand why the sounds would connect to ebb and flow. My tinnitus setting is waves!

This is beautiful, Ali!
Thank you so much David. Glad it moved you. :)
Lovely inspiration and starting point for this piece and the accompanying video is as captivating as the music. Thanks for sharing Ali

This is ... poignant. Well said, Ali!
Thank you David! :)
What an emotional and epic piece. Thanks for sharing Ali
Cheers Mark! I was given 3 free instruments and set myself a challenge of creating a soundtrack using only these. Then I didn't have a film to put a track to, so I had to make that as well... I'm glad it worked for you. Thanks for watching/listening. :)
Fascinating post Ali
Thank you so much Mark! Great place for a refreshing walk if you are ever down that way. :)

Excellent use of this resource and the result is moving and beautiful. Thanks for sharing Ali.
I’m leaning towards this... lovely - George Formby might have sung that too... post script - ambience is cool.
Thank you for checking out my "post" David. Glad you liked it. :)
Lovely bit of time-stop montage to complement the ambient piece you crafted. In all honesty, I would have probably loved it just as much even if the the whole 3m40s time-stop compression would have been from one single uninterrupted clip -- it is a gorgeous lamp and the background is equally enthralling...
Thank you so much Francois! :)
Nice! good syncro with the video!!

Love this vibe! nice one
Thanks for listening Rich!
It certainly was beautifull moon-gazing. I loved the voice and its articulations.
Thank you very much Petri! Glad you enjoyed. :)
Liking the soulful, romantic feel of this, enlimila. The instrumental swells feel a little contrived, though, as though they're cut short and not allowed to 'blossom'. All the best. :o)
Thanks for listening and commenting! I agree with your assessment of the swells.... something I've not totally mastered yet. Might have been different if the allowed time frame was longer than 30 secs. I found that quite constraining to be honest. :)
Very very nice sound here!
Thank you for taking time to listen and comment Olivier! :)
I must get this Aura 2 library! Well done!
