Very Rusty Nylint Tow Truck Restoration
In this video I restore an extremely rusty 1970s Nylint Tow Truck. It was my first ever Nylint projects, because I usually restore Tonka trucks. It was a fun project to work on even though it took a lot longer than I thought it would. The truck was extremely rusty, and it was a perfect piece for a restoration project. I have restored a Tonka Tow Truck before, it was even the same coloring as this one. I think the pressed steel toys from the 1950s and 1960s are perfect for restorations. Hopefully in the future I can do more model toy restoration projects and other vintage restoration projects.

Vintage Wood Handle Screwdriver Restoration | MIRROR POLISHED FINISH
Переглядів 4,1 тис.Рік тому
In this video I will be restoring a vintage screwdriver that was most likely made in the 1930s to 1940s. I have heard that this might have come with the WW2 Jeep Willys tool kit. The wood handle makes this hand tool extremely classic looking. I wanted to make the metal parts mirror finish and reuse the wooded handles. This project required a lot of hard work, mostly sandling, and getting rid of...

This is a restoring of 1960s Tonka Tow Truck, also known as The AA Wrecker. I love this truck because of the amount of details it has. Back in the day they used to make amazing toy trucks! In this video I will be working on a 1956 Tonka Farms Stake Truck. Even though the truck didn't have to much rust, it was still in need of some love. In this video I will be restoring a retro Tonka Volkswagen Beetle also known as "Bug". Its was made in the 1960s and was one the most popular and iconic cars ever made. I got to use my sandblaster, and it did a great job with fresh silica med...

I’ve seen a couple of videos where lye crystals are used to get rid of dirt, old seasoning and rust. My question is: is it safe to use lye on something we will cook food on? Does the iron absorbs the lye somehow and contaminate the food? Thanks in advance for your comments!

Maybe if you do many layers of seasoning it will rust less. It needs to be taken care of a lot.

I have this same griddle in the same condition. You had me until the Crisco. You use a hard drying oil on cast iron. Flax seed oil at high heat. Nice cleaning though, until the soap and water.

Yeah nothing wrong with the soap and water when restoring. The “No soap on cast iron” was valid decades ago when soap was made with lye and vinegar. And everyone has a own preference what type of oil to use, it did the job and I was happy. Thanks for watching 👍

Please, please, please do not use vegetable oil to season cast iron. Avocado oil if you can afford it or the second best is grapeseed oil. They have much higher smoke points. You do not want to season with low smoke-point cooking oils as it will burn the seasoning off. Am I an expert? No but I have been restoring, seasoning and cooking with cast-iron for many of my 74 years.

  • @jayham1970

Please do give it a good rinse after using a chemical solvent. Soaking an oven in white vinegar is highly suggestible over any substance that you cannot consume without possible physical harm. Anything that you put in that pot (not good for consumption) is getting soaked into the cast iron. (Just my humble opinion and suggestion)

Appreciate the video. I’ve never been convinced vegetable oil is the way to go. My oils of choice are grapeseed oil and, if you can afford it, avocado oil, both having a much higher smoke point than vegetable oil. Another suggestion I got from Kent Rollins’ UA-cam channel is always lightly re-season your cast-iron after every use on a stove top burner. Clean it, get it just hot enough that you cannot leave your hand on it and re-season very lightly with the oils I mentioned and wipe excess with a paper towel. I’ve done many cast-iron restorations and followed this plan and they look great.

I'd wear gloves during all that scrubbing, heavier than the ones worn when putting the oil on. Have you ever tried crisco instead of oil? I've heard it seasons better than oil but haven't tried it myself.
