Last Days: Guildford's Debenhams
Переглядів 3902 роки тому
On 12th May 2021 the Guildford branch of Debenhams closed for the very last time. On the 7th May 2021 my son and I made one final (brief) visit to record what we saw. A real loss for the people of Guildford but I remain positive about what the future holds for the site. stmaryswharf.co.uk/
Last Days: Guildford's Public Toilets

After public consultation it was decided that the three sites to close were: - Allen House - Bedford Road - Farnham Road On their last day of operation (3rd April 2022) my son and I took a visit to each site to film their condition before the doors were locked for the final t...

i recently purchased one of these, amazing radio... and more, i have all the accessories! the pxa-h510, the dvd player, a 12 disc changer, and more.
That sounds great. I have a real love of the older style of in-car hi-fi but sadly not the right kind of cars to install it in, hence the sale of mine.
Is This in The United States or where is This place at????
It's in Guildford in the UK, it's a town about 25-30 miles south-west of London
Thanks for the question 👍
That's great to hear. Alpine had some really interesting products back then - I wish I had experienced more of them.
I can see why you want to sell that.
It's a lot of wires for sure but I love the retro vibe. If I had a Mercedes 190e 2.6 Sportline as my daily I'd have installed all this without hesitation.
@@James76Git's Alpine Gear, I feel your ❤ for it.
Good morning, do you still have the Alpine set for sale?
Hi there. No, it sold shortly after the video went live and the buyer mentioned that seeing the video of it working was partly why they bought it. Went for £100 in the end, which I was very happy with.
Glad you rescued it James! Sounds sweet now :)
That's right. Make the people suffer so the council bosses can keep their salaries and pretend they're doing it for the public good. No other sphere of life would sustain public sector thinking.
There's a good number of reasons why the council has to cut back on services. Reduction in central government funding being one, an inherently inefficient organisation structure being the another but I don't believe salaries are the reason. Councils are not places where you'd typically seek out high paying jobs afterall.
How are closeted men supposed to shag in secret now?
Sell
Sold it.
How much did it so for?
£24 or after eBay fees £19. Once restored, I then sold the rest of the car for £75. You can hear all about that over on my other channel here: ua-cam.com/video/zyPAPTd952w/v-deo.html
I've just bought one 2nd hand.. is that how old they are 😮
I found another video on UA-cam (ua-cam.com/video/_-Z-JOJYWVg/v-deo.html) suggesting that they were launched in 2003, so twice that. The 27Mhz radio gives it away really, but I still think it's a great looking example of the type. I can't get mine to run reliably though, so I've still not given it a proper run out.
@@James76G I've just took mine out for its first run and wont start... nothings been charged since 2006 apparently so either bad battery or just needs a good overnight charge
The toilets at 3:02 looks so weird
Indeed the do and no doubt very cold!
Did you sell it?
I didn't, no. I've kept it for now although it's just boxed up and sitting under my desk.
@@James76Ghi, would you like to sell it?
Thanks for the video! Does this unit have an option to automatically open and turn on when the car is started?
I can't remember Dan, sorry. I never installed it in a car and so never got to dig in to the features much. It must have been ace back in the day, but in a modern world it's a lot of boxes for not a lot of functionality.
She's aliveeee!
She is and having just finished my Monster Beetle restoration I'll soon be looking at this MT2 on my other channel here: www.youtube.com/@mostlyhelpful
Got any of staines Debenhams
Sadly not Clive, haven't been to Staines for about 18 years.
Why my cartridge can’t detect my 7” records? I have the same turntable
There is a small switch under the platter that detects 7" records. There is a small hole in the rubber platter mat that needs to line up with this switch so make sure that is right. Then there is a second switch toward the back near where the arm mounts. This switch detects a 12". If this switch is broken or stuck in the closed position it won't detect a 7" record on the platter. So check that too. Good luck.
Thanks for posting this.
No problem and thanks for taking the time to comment.
Closing public toilets just causes anti social behavoival and people will start to deficate in the park they should stop paying their bone idle councilors such high salaries and cut the number of them to pay for public services that the taxpayer pays.
I filmed this simply so that in years to come people will be able to "see" what is behind the closed doors they see in the town. How those doors ended up being closed is not something I want to be drawn in to.
I’ve seen worse!
I was pleasantly surprised myself!
Most boring abandoned video
Just wait 10 years and people will be all over it... In the meantime, cheer up.
Could you show you’re tune
I'll be doing a video on the restoration over on my other channel very soon, which is called Mostly Helpful. I'll include details of the tune for sure.

@@James76Ghey I recently got a mt2 and for some reason the front wheels are locked up but the back seems to be fine also was wondering what direction the rotory start it supposed to spin when trying to start it?
Very nice sounding machine on fortunately the build quality and don't get me started on the actual case are a complete and utter waste of time cutting corners expect a lot better never ever ever by the Technics sa 100l euro end up having a nervous breakdown or at least doing what I did playing football with it on a Friday After looking at the unit and waiting at least a day to try and find out how to take the top off was bad enough when I finally dismantled it they actual board was not supported all the cables were crammed in at the back I can imagine a few times of dismantling this machine the whole thing would be knackered anyway complete and utter waste of time whoever designed this once a good kicking the bullocks This is the thing you've got a nice sounding machine and for the money being at the bottom of the range could have been brilliant this is what happens when you cut corners and end up with something that sounds great looks good on the top but when you actually want to service it is put together like a right sack of f******s*** anybody that has brought this in the past should be claiming for compensation I having a piss taken out of them come on Technics absolutely disgraceful and you should be thoroughly ashamed 🤣🤣
Thanks for watching my video Andrew.
Ok
Gracias!
We had a Bigfoot body on a Monster Beetle, took a hell of a battering, it was great fun 👍
I've run it maybe 4 times now and every time I seem to damage the shell a little more, even though I'm being gentle. I've no idea how they coped with the rough and tumble back in the day! If you want to see how I'm getting on with the restoration it's over on my other channel here: ua-cam.com/video/EB5DzRbwYRY/v-deo.html
@@James76G lots and lots and lots of clear coat 😆🤣
This was/is such an easy fix… it is actually the turbo actuators. Common issue and there was even a recall by BMW (Alpina) to fix this Had you have bought the car for less than £1000 you could have had an amazing machine
Hi Mehmet, thanks for this, I always wondered what the issue was. Unfortunately this wasn't at a BMW dealer and so they wouldn't have known about the recall and sadly despite our best efforts, they wouldn't sell the car in its existing condition. But somebody got a lovely car for certain. My friend Rob did go on to buy another D3 however and more recently he has upgraded to a B5. You can see pictures of both the D3 and my own B2.5 on my Instagram page @james76g.
@@James76G thanks for your reply also James, your friend and yourself have VERY good taste in cars my friend I will surely check out your IG I wish you all the best in the future 🤝
Thanks for making this video. I recently acquired the same unit. However, it seems that it will only display after initial boot the radio, setup, CD, and other functions if the NVE-ND055 is connected. Without this connected, the screen is blank after initial boot. Any thoughts on why this might be?
Hi and thanks for the comment. I don't know why you are seeing what you are as the NVE-ND055 was always an add on unit, and so shouldn't be required. The only thing I can think is that it is defaulting to the Nav unit on boot up and with it not connected it can't do anything. For reference when mine starts for the first time it opens with the radio, as you will have seen in the video. I also have the same Nav unit, but I don't have the remote or the aerial for it so I haven't included it in this video.
If you are watching this video and you want to see more I've done a full review of it over on my other channel. Mostly Helpful. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/Wht0f4erTX4/v-deo.html

Technics and Dua Lipa - Break My Heart... Just perfect!
Agreed, love a bit of Dua Lipa!
Sorry to comment on an old video but how do you find this wrench? I’m looking at buying one for working on my own R53!
Hi Tom, no worries. It's great, I use it all the time. It can't remove wheel nuts when they are fully torqued up (110NM), but pretty much everything else I did on my R53 it handled fine, which was most of the suspension, removing the front crash bar and so on.
I don't recommend 'bouncing' the breaker bar as, from experience, it can work its way off the nut as you're 'bouncing' it. Other than that, perfect technique for DIY. Using the weight of the car to stop the wheel rotating is the best way to do this.
Hi, thanks for taking the time to comment and for the tip. Ideally I wouldn't have stood on the breaker bar, but I didn't want to cause myself too much strain, so felt it a better option. Perhaps a bigger breaker bar next time?
Bigger is always better, I have a 1m one myself :) Standing on it isn't really a problem if it's stable enough. I've also used my breaker bar and a load of weights as a crude torque wrench for high-torque applications before I felt like I could justify buying a big torque wrench.
Don't think so,impossible to work its way off,it's a *long* nut; all he needed was an extension, a piece of tubing 2 feet (and do C L E A R the area of people, when the socket,or the bar, breaks,it will fly off)...; i have 5 or 6 tubes ,all sizes; standing on it,like it was done,is ok too; been a mech for over 40 years. (i was looking for a video on the wheel bearing...)
