Woman suffrage
Hello, my name is Sejong Cho, I attend Branksome hall asia (BHA)
Today, I am here to tell women suffrage, Woman suffrage is the right of women by law to vote in national or local elections. But womens didn't have these rights. Many womens were dissatisfied with having less rights so they gathered power to start a suffrage movement. The movement began in the 18th century.Women like Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton were some of the leaders who spoke out and organized protests. In the suffrage women lectured, wrote, marched, lobbied, and practiced civil disobedience, this was to revolt to peoples that disagreed about womens having equal rights and who treated women poorly. These people were mostly mens because they were only the people to vote and they thought womens would distribute their politics. During the 1850s, the women’s rights movement gathered steam, but lost momentum when the Civil War began.
Fortunately In 1910, some Western states began allowing women to vote again after almost 20 years when Idaho and Utah gave women voting rights earlier. However, many states in the South and East resisted and didn't want to give women the right to vote. During World War I, the suffragists (people fighting for women's right to vote) had to slow down their campaign because of the war. But they used the war effort to show that women were just as patriotic and capable as men. This helped strengthen their argument for why women should have the right to vote. Finally, on August 18, 1920, the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was passed. This amendment gave women the right to vote across the United States. Then, on November 2, 1920, more than 8 million women voted in elections for the first time ever. So, after a long struggle with different strategies and challenges, women won the right to vote in 1920. In this way, I hope that women will respect their hard-won voting rights and human rights.
