    If the vacuum is on during the cure, what stops the resin from flowing out of the part and into the pump?

    can I just thin tube silicone with white spirit and let it cure? seems easier for one off projects than buying a special system.

    I am wondered how vacuum outlet is connected because that part is missed in the video. Resin inlet is well described but how which way vacuum is pumped out ?

    Could this be used on say a 20 ft boat mould or a larger ocean type Kayak ! and would it be cost effective to do so ?

    While applying gel coat, a respirator should be worn. How many parts will that bag make?

    • @illla
      @illla 2 роки тому

      It is epoxy gelcoat and epoxy is not toxic.

    how do you prevent the laminate from becoming too dry while curing under full vacuum?

    • @SuperYellowsubmarin
      @SuperYellowsubmarin 4 роки тому

      It doesn't happen. There's no bleeder, so when resin feed is clamped, only excess resin makes it to the catch pot.

    Seems easy to make it. Where is the hole connect to the vacuum pump?

    • @siliconecomposites1890
      @siliconecomposites1890 5 років тому

      That's a good question! Normally there would be a vacuum connection through the silicone bag right over the peripheral vacuum channel. In this instance there is a connection through the lower half of the mould (in line with the vacuum channel) You can just see it in the first part of the video when the lower mould is empty.

    interesting! why flow mesh is not necessary? best regards!

    • @siliconecomposites1890
      @siliconecomposites1890 5 років тому

      Hi- You can use flow mesh in exactly the same way as you would use it in a conventional infusion. In this instance it wasn't necessary as the mould is rather small and the laminate is reasonably permeable.

    how many times can you use the silicone bag please? also, can it be brushed on?

    • @Compositeinteg1
      @Compositeinteg1 5 років тому

      Hi Ted, the life expectancy of a silicone bag will depend on the resin being used but we have customers reporting between 250 to 300 cycles with a polyester resin. The general care and handling is also obviously very relevant.

      Hi, This mould was made just as a technical demonstration but the process is used in a variety of different applications to produce composite mouldings (i.e. marine, automotive, architectural etc) Have a look at our website www.siliconecomposites.com

    3:51 what's the effect of 'intensifiers'? Is this to apply more clamping force in certain areas under vacuum?

    • @siliconecomposites1890
      @siliconecomposites1890 6 років тому

      Hi Paul, We filled these small detailed ares with solid silicone so that they are more likely to stay in shape and to press the fibre into the correct position under vacuum.
