My 11 year old on her first crazy ride
Texas State Fair October 2024. She insisted. This thing cost like $35 in tickets and another $25 in tickets for this video. But for the experience, and the look on her face for those 8 seconds...priceless.

    UPDATE: I did try the suggestions in the comment section to apply a small amount of vegetable oil along the glass edge and it did work. It still required some muscle, but made a HUGE difference. I have just left a review with Petco that they need to include this information with the purchase. It is actually a very nice top, but could lead to a very big disaster if you don't know to lubricate the edge. After the first attempt, I was actually afraid to try again. But it did make it slide on much better.

    Just got through doing the exact thing as the girl in the video. I was envisioning the glass breaking and cutting off my arm. No instructions, so I typed it into you tube. This is craziness. And I did try aligning it up to the edge and pushing it on that way. That didn't work at all. I'll try the vegetable oil that is recommended in the comments. Otherwise, it is going back. Not worth losing an arm over.

    Do not slide it! Place the plastic strip along the side of the glass, then use a small hammer or rubber mallet to tap on the edge of the strip repeatedly (while holding the glass in place) and move gradually from one end to the other end.

      I just finished one I got from Amazon....which is why I'm here....someone suggested using vegetable oil, put some on 3-4 inches at a time....I pushed mine to far past the glass, had to start over ( a 20 long)..2nd time was easier, but was 1/2 shy to the edge and it wouldn't budge..I used a hammer, and very gently tapped it into place....I just cleaned my glass, and it fits perfect...mine is a H2pro....thick glass, very sturdy

      Thanks for your completely unnecessary comment. I tried both ways. I'm not an idiot. I've owned over 40 of these lids. About 10 or so of them have been like this, chipped, warped or otherwise malformed. It's most definitely a quality control issue. But thanks for your expertise coming from a channel without even any content 🙄

    Common sense would tell you to apply a little elbow “grease” to the inside of the plastic flap to slide it onto the glass easier. If they made it easier to slide on dry, what makes you think it will stay in place without slipping out and shattering inside your aquarium? It gets harder as you go down cus more of the plastic is gripping onto the glass and pulls while you push. Same concept as car windshield wipers. Turn them on during a hot dry day and the blades will squeak due to friction against the glass and no liquid lubrication. Sorry for the mansplaining but don’t blame a product and company for user error. Also: The plastic flap is there to help prevent evaporation so less topping off but also allow you to cut small sections in it for cords/airline.

    • @poeticsong725
      @poeticsong725 11 місяців тому

      I love how a man admits he's mansplaining, because that's all you're doing. Assuming because I'm a female I didn't already try that off- camera also. I'm an intelligent woman with a degree... not a moron.

    • @NeonKue
      @NeonKue 11 місяців тому

      @@poeticsong725Only pointed out cus it’s what most would see it as when “explaining” common sense things. Degrees don’t mean anything when it comes to intelligence and experience. Streets smarts to book smarts if you will, or perhaps your school didn’t teach the basics of Newton’s 3rd law? Lol

    I shared her EXACT experience. Even to the point of wanting to break it myself and be done with it. When I got it half way like she did, I spread a bunch of thick towels on the ground (my floor is tile) gripped one side with a toweled hand. And then padded the piece of plastic at the top with a smaller towel and kind of gently banged it down onto the glass lid. It should definitely NOT have been as hard as it was.....I used a bit of vegetable oil as well

    I just started to assemble mine. I know from using a plastic coupling to join two pieces of air tube also check valve, and any air tubing or vac tubing connection... I use water. So regarding sliding the plastic on the glass lid, I ran water down the channel that slides on the glass and it went right on. If that didn't work and the fit was tight, my next step was going to be a cotton swap and just a slight touch of vegetable oil and wipe the inside of the channel. I hope this helped.

      I've successfully and quickly installed these back strips on seven different (two w/split tops) aquariums exactly as you describe. Instructions would certainly help customers from attempting the hazardous slide-on maneuver. That's the way I tried it the first time. Failing that, I discovered my second idea was correct.
