Went to Parris Island July 9th. Most disappointed experience ever. My main points for this disappointment being 1. PT once a week? Unless you had something like the CFT, then you would do that plus the PT another day in that week. 2.skipping things like gas chamber. Some stuff we just outright didn’t do. The reason for this was a lack of time. I call bs since we would then sit around and do nothing for two to three hours. 3. Unprofessional Drill Instructors. DI’s often joked with other recruits like they were best buds, constantly laughing and such. DI’s would often complain if it rained. If it was raining, the response to such was usually along the lines of, “I dont feel like getting wet. We are going back to the squad bay. You will turn to free time.” They would then do something like go watch Dragon Ball or play Red Dead Redemption in the DIs’ house. 4. Lack of authority. DI’s often never really cared enough to punish recruits for doung dumb stuff. For example, people would take peanut butter packets to the squad bay. Would get caught but almost never punished. The very first time we met our DI’s, one of the first things senior told us was, “as long as you put out, we will make exceptions for failures. My job relies on your performance and how many recruits I graduate. If you all can do that much so I can keep my position, I’ll make this so much easier for all of us.” Still know people who graduated who couldn’t even do two pull-ups. 😔
