Your vote always counts! It’s just that we have become complacent and are asleep at the switch with local and state elections. For instance, my local school board had someone running who was a complete nutcase. I don’t want them having a say over my kids education. Nor do I want someone whose kids have been home school should be making decisions for public schools.

Congratulations, you are so correct about why so many people don’t vote. I am so glad you thought about it and made a decision to vote and be able to educate your child by being informed yourself.

Thank you for voting! Your vote does matter, especially in local elections. The racial stuff that you're talking about, those are the tactics that they use to get people to not vote. They worked on you. I'm glad they're not working anymore.

Which candidate is putting out that kind of campaign ad. You better vote because your neighbors are going to know you didn’t and you were a bad person if you didn’t….. I feel like I’m automatically not wanting to vote for that person. I don’t like that.

I am glad you voted but one thing you should take into consideration your vote is your power. Understand all the policies that impact you in your community are passed by the politicians. So do your research on each candidate and see who has policies that matches your values and interest.

First, let me say I am black. At 73 I've been voting since I got my voters card. And, you need to know the back round of people who want political office. It is important, would you want a office holder who was a active klansmen!

Guess what …… when you are given a social security number and drivers license they already know who you are and can trace every step you make To speak on the challenges of Black people who have died and shead blood for you to vote and not to …..speak volumes…..you want to educate yourself to live better ….. do some research…..take your son to the library so he can understand that the only thing he and you own in the country as a Black mom is your vote……

Congratulations. You have to start somewhere. I've been voting for a long time and have questioned whether it matters, too. However, I know for certain that it does because Trump selected Justices to the Supreme Court that overturned Roe v. Wade. Our daughters and nieces now have fewer rights than we do. It does matter and makes a difference.

Thank you! I hope that other people that have never voted get inspired. It IS a secret ballot. You don't have to vote for the party you are registered with. Registered "Republicans" can vote for "Democrats". It takes research but vote for Democracy and your children! Please and thank you.

Thank you for this video. Thanks for participating in your right to vote because it is important. Politics starts local. Always participate in your local elections also. That's how things get accomplished in your community. I registered to vote at 18 years old in 1975. I knew I had a voice that could be heard by voting.

I am happy you finally took charge of your life! Voting and which party you identify with is more than division. You have a long way to go to educate yourself! Your party affiliation is very important in determining how your final ballot looks when you go to vote, for statistics both current and historical. Look at videos on UA-cam to teach yourself. Listening to some of you comments, you remind me of a Republican voter. ALL voters should know what each candidate stands for or you could be voting against your best interest. But the good thing is you have 4 years to inform yourself for next time. A pamphlet cannot cover all of the issues that must be considered when casting out votes. Hopefully the persons you voted for want to see you and your son prosper and not want to wipe you off the face of the earth! Good luck!

*NICKY THERE IS MORE IN IT FOR YOU IF YOU TAKE IT* First thing, awesome you voted! There is no shame at 44 that you voted for the first time. I do understand your perspective about elected official, in part you are right, they do set their rulers in place to rule, but our collective votes can change the course of any election. My point about more in it for YOU: I see in YOU have the good character and ability to be a political leader. You have an honest balanced perspective about life, you certainly have the gift-of-gab (a must), and you convey your message at a level that all people can grasp. I'd urge you to seek some political office where you think you can help others.... To hell with your past! Like you said: we all have one. The best way to beat a troubled past is to come clean, up front, and let the voters know in plain english that you don't think a certain way anymore. I'm going to keep an eye on you. ;))) Hopefully you can find your way to what I think is your real calling.... Much Luv.

Congratulations! I am very proud of you. I do have some bad news though. Voting is public record. And they do somehow know who you vote for. Not the candidate. But the party. I encourage any of you to google yourself. Beyond your name, address, age etc (which is bad enough) it will show which party you support. I have never registered for a party in my life. And surprise, surprise the party I usually lean to was listed. So yeah…

First, I'm proud of you! It is a daunting task, voting. One thing I'll encourage you to do is to research. Start by making sure you are confident in your knowledge of how both federal and state governments work. Strive to look for academic resources. Do the same with regard to history and economics. Both are very important when it comes to policy making, and it is helpful to take that knowledge with you into the voting booth. The last thing is to acknowledge what you said about politics pitting folks against each other, and digging up dirt. The people running the campaigns have one objective: To win. I've found the best way to circumvent the noise is to research the backgrounds of the candidates. If they've been in office before (take the Senate, for example), any legislation they authored, their voting records on any legislation is a matter of public record and available online. Best of luck to you!

It's not by accident so many brown and black folks have the opinion "it doesn't mater if I vote ..." since that message has been amplified for decades within our communities. But as I always say, if it doesn't matter if we vote or not, why is it when we do come out to vote in numbers, all of sudden there is push for new "laws" which are designed to suppress these votes. There is a whole right wing machinery out there designed to keep certain demographics angry, disconnected and not voting and their supporters afraid and voting! So I say it's never to late to start voting, and teaching the next generation of young people the importance of doing so and voting for their interest.
