The last show I saw pre-covid. Refused at the 9:30 Club Feb 21, 2020. Dennis Lyxzén talks about their first tour, feeling like sell outs, the privilege of being on stage, looking at our corrupt system, starting a revolution. Show was amazing, this band just gets better with age.

The terrifying part about the Whitney section is that his effort to "fit in" has let him come across as a truly empathetic man, someone you'd expect to be the apex of compassion. It's all a mask to hide his utter lack of those things, this is just what he thinks a normal person is through his alien outside perspective, even though his words carry such powerful messages we should all strive towards.

“Commercially and Artistically” do not ever go together in music. You are either commercially in it for the money OR you are artistic and starving to death.

My versions Version 1: Do you like Hilary Duff? Her '02 work was a little too, cheesy for my taste but when Metamorphosis came out in '03 I think she really came into her own, commercially and artistically, the whole album has a clear crisp sound and a new sheen of pop and rock that really gives the songs a big boost. She’s been compared to Britney Spears, but I think Hilary has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In 2007 Hilary released this Dignity her most accomplished album, I think her undisputed masterpiece is Gypsy Woman, a song so GOOD most people probably don’t listen to the lyrics, but they should because it’s not just about the beat and the importance of love, it’s also a personal statement about Hilary herself. Version 2: Do you like 50 Cent? I've been a big 50 fan since the release of his debut album Get Rich or Die Tryin' Before that I didn’t really understand any of his work, too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Get Rich or Die Tryin' where 50 Cent truly shined. I think In Da Club is his undisputed masterpiece. It’s an epic meditation on partying, at the same time it deepens and enriches the meaning of the proceeding 3 albums. Listen to the brilliant ensembles playing of other songs you can practically hear every nuance of his rapping. Version 3: Did you know that Gerald Levert's second studio album titled Groove On, had one number single on it, Did you know that chat? It’s hard to choose a favorite amongst so many great tracks… but I'd Give Anything is one of the best most powerful songs ever written, not about self-preservation or dignity, this universal message crosses all boundaries, instills one that it is too late to better ourselves. Since it’s impossible in this world to empathize with others, we can always empathize with ourselves, it’s an important message, crucial really, as beautifully stated on the album

N: Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

In 95, Shakur released this : Me Against the World, his third album. Although it does not contain catchy gangsta songs like in “All Eyez On Me”, released the following year, it features a lot of personal songs about Shakur’s life and about the life in the inner city, like always. On this record, Shakur is far more mature in his lyrics, his flow and his intentions than on his first two albums, and less provocative than in All Eyez On Me -written after his jail sentence - where some tracks, from a personal point of view, can be a little repetitive. Me Against the World, on the other hand, is far more balanced. Every track fits right in place. That is why Me Against The World is Shakur’s undisputed opus magnum. This is “Can U Get Away”, a personal favorite.

Do you like The Weeknd? I’ve been a big Weeknd fan ever since his 2015 album, Beauty Behind the Madness. Before that I didn’t really understand any of his work, too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Beauty Behind the Madness where Abel truly shined. I think Acquainted is his undisputed masterpiece. It’s an epic meditation on intangibility, at the same time it deepens and enriches the meaning of the proceeding 3 albums. Listen to the brilliant ensembles playing of The Weeknd’s As You Are, you can practically hear every nuance of his vocal cords.
