Gran Canaria Cycling: GC-604 descent. Pt 2. 4K
The GC-604 is an amazing route that runs from the GC-60 main road in the centre of the island to Maspolomas in the south. It has an asphalt start and finish, with an alarming and highly dangerous trail section through the Parque Natural de Pilancones in the middle. (ua-cam.com/video/CNrjKC5QkI4/v-deo.html).
Thus, ordinary vehicles do not traverse the full length of the route, but it is great for trail cycling. This clip continues from the first sight of Maspolomas to entering the outskirts at El Tablero.
Shot on a helmet mounted GoPro10 camera on the 7th October 2024.

Approaching the end of the Parque Natural de Pilancones trail that runs for 22km through a high pine forest. The scariest part is in this section, where there is a sheer fall along one side. I decided that discretion was the better part of valour (!) and walked about 250m or so of the route. You can fast forward to about 02:40 to when the cycling starts again. Apologies for the delay afterwards...

The GC-602 trail that goes from Ayagaures to the GC-60 road from Maspolomas is technically a dirt road, but it would be a brave driver who would undertake this route in a car. However, it is spectacular, and not overly difficult for a Mountain Trail Bike. There are some rough patches, though, where I would recommend walking, especially if travelling alone as I was. This obviously wouldn't apply...

The Mirador Astronómico de la Degollada de las Yeguas is a spectacular viewpoint on the GC-60 road, about halfway between Maspolomas and Fataga. On leaving the viewing area the road descends steeply through several sharp turns and hairpin bends towards the valley floor, before climbing again towards Fataga. BTW - the relatively slow speed of descent isn't just due to my fear of heights! The fro...

The Carrigaline to Crosshaven Greenway runs along the final section of the old Cork to Crosshaven narrow-gauge railway line. The portion of the railway was built in 1904 and closed in 1932. It is a lovely scenic cycle, following the Owenabue River as it makes its way to Cork Harbour. Shot on a helmet-mounted GoPro10 Camera on the 6th August 2024.

Youghal ('Yawl') is the easternmost town in County Cork, on the estuary of the River Blackwater. Located on the edge of a steep riverbank, the town has a long and narrow layout. It was a holiday resort for generations of Cork people, especially when the railway line was in place (see the links below). Thankfully, I've never had any issues with other traffic. Probably that just means that I’m lucky! I find it more comfortable to cycle in the countryside than in the cities and try to find quieter roads. Have you any particular areas that you’d like to explore?

Sorry I missed your query! The road to Cofete is mixed; quire rough in places on the road from Morro Jable, not too bad on the descent to the beach itself. These links will give you an idea what the road is like. ua-cam.com/video/WN50rkQhgQ8/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/2rVy8V8X6X0/v-deo.html Unfortunately, I don't have my rides on Strava/Garmin; I may do so in future! This is an amazing climb and descent!!! I rode from Esquinzo to Costa Calma where I picked up the FV-605 and rode past La Pared to Pajara, After a cafe stop I went up and down this climb, fed the chipmunks and ravens biscuits at the top and rode back to Esquinzo, it's a must do climb. Great Videos

That's a good cycle! I know some people don't like the barren scenery in Fuerteventura, but I love this particular descent. It mightn't be as spectacular as say cycling to Cofete Beach (ua-cam.com/video/WN50rkQhgQ8/v-deo.html), but it's hard to beat for road cycling.

    • @qcsorter4626

It probably depends on where you're starting from. I base myself in Caleta de Fuste and go from there to Antigua via the FV-413, then the steep climb to Mirador de Guise y Ayose, down to Betancuria, along the fabulous road in this video to Pájara, then back to Caleta de Fuste via Tuineje and Agua de Bueyes. It's about 80km and I prefer to do the big climb to Mirador de Guise y Ayose first, just to get it out of the way while I'm still fairly fresh. Going in this direction has the added bonus that you're riding next to the drop edge of the road and is thus a bit more exciting! Most of the road is fine for driving. It is a little bit narrow in places but careful driving will see you safely through. Just slow down entering blind corners. (At 05:25 I think the car takes the corner much too quickly). The trip is worth it for the magnificent views along the way.

Having ridden those hills in both directions, it's great to see someone has made a video of it. On my last decent, I was caught behind a coach which I caught up with on every bend and had to brake almost to a standstill, most frustrating. A real mental and physical challenge. Well Done. I am hoping to tackle the route again at the end of April 2023.

    • @qcsorter4626

Lots to do in Fuerteventura! Car hire is relatively cheap but there's also a good bus service. You can expect nice weather in May but not too hot - mid 20s°C. As Fuerteventura is a windy island you may not realise just how hot it is so be sure to have a high (30+) sunscreen. Most hotels are good value and everything is geared towards tourism. Corralejo in the north and Morro Jable in the south are worth visiting. If you hire a car be sure to drive along the FV-30 road from Betancuria to Pajára, stopping off in Betancuria for a meal. It's a lovely scenic road with lots of nice views. You can have a preview on some of my other videos on UA-cam. ua-cam.com/video/lCGJdHyZdGo/v-deo.html
