DDR NVA Entrenching tools

Taking a look at the two different models of entrenching tools aka spades used by the East German military. One of them looted from the trunk of my car for the video!
DDR NVA Canteens
The idea of comvenient and practical canteens never came up in the East German military. But at least at first they made their contraptions to a high standard.
DDR NVA M74 Bayonet with Brown grip
After the DDR started to produce the AK-74 in 1985, someone at the bayonet factory had a brain fart and decided to produce the bayonet with very retro looking brown grips. This lasted for just a year or two before production switched to a black gripped model.
DDR NVA Strichtarn 1980's vs UTV cut
In mid 1980's the NVA finally figured that sending people to a potential war in 19th century inspired uniforms was a bit dumb. So in about 1985 they created the UTV uniform which was slightly improved, but they did not have time to issue it to troops before Honecker's goons were ousted from office. So here's the nitpicky details how you can tell the earlier Strichtarn field uniforms and UTV one...

DDR NVA Late 1960's Flächentarn gasmask bag

No, it's not your grandma's shopping bag. This was supposed to carry the equipment that would "protect" you in a contaminated battlefield and match your camouflage uniform.

Taking a look at some of the items I brought back after finishing my service a long time ago. Soldiers handbook 2024 Can't actually link it yet in YT but Google "Sotilaan käsikirja 2024" and pdf will be among the first results.

When the DDR adopted the AK rifle in 1960, these were the mag pouches that were initially issued with it.

DDR NVA Field caps
Here's my little collection of East German army field caps.
6:00 the pilot boots also have some grey fake fur inside, dont have the foam padding inside, and doesnt have a second inside leather layer. They do however have some padding at the back at the top of the boot where it meets the back of your calf one of the pairs of the older boots (the predecessor to this one) does feel a bit better and features some type of stitched construction, i think like a norwegian welt or stitchdown idk the terms. But even as far back as the late 60s low legged variant, they sort of do feel a little bit cheap still the numbers, not entirely sure myself either, but probably one of them may be a factory code or something manufacturing related. I've read the "G" on the sole is a factory code aswell - I've never seen a letter other than G so probably not size. the earlier boots do indeed have a more square end , and ive read this was better for skiis myself aswell. Rubber all was black after the initial pair of 2, so from the 60s onwards berets, i believe some fakes were made in the 90s, so the numbers on the market may not be entirely accurate - cant say. But these boots from my observation run about 200 euros now for sizes like 28.5+, maybe like 160-180 for yours. sizes 27 etc are always less valuable from my experience
5:00 I've seen the website you're talking about, as far as I feel the only difference is theyre both high legged black buckle boots, they dont look all that similar. The website seems to just claim that those make a substitute in their own opinion or something
3:36 there is no steel cap in this toe, id imagine its plastic at the back there
16:46, the strichtarn cover is for the UTV equipment set that wasnt introduced before collapse for the main military I assume, but i have seen some fallschirmjager vests with the UTV loops system
If you mean the green loops on the back for the NBC suit then yes, I actually have one of those vests. It's on my To do -list of videos, gonna be a long one that.
The "made in the GDR" stamp I personally think is simply a legal maneuvre for stuff to be exported post collapse, I've seen it on some other items going to the USA or something, since otherwise there was no origin country or anything on the items (?)
Hello friend!, Any idea where i can get a M56 for an alright price, Ive got one, But its a little rusty and in a danish CF colour scheme. Im looking to buy a new one but cant find a good place execpt Ebay.

Amazing
Wow
Ihan mielenkiintoista sisältöä.
vary nice
I wanted to buy one off of Germandotmilitaria but they were out of stock 😢😢
If you want to buy this one in the video send an e-mail to the address in channel info. There's also one for sale in ebay.de but it seems that seller only ships to EU area.
2 videos in 2 weeks AMAZING
HELL YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Thanks for the information on everything you and many other creators have made my East German / ddr knowledge thanks 🙏 3:56
Thanks for watching! Just recorded footage for another video, hope to get it out soon.

Amazing been waiting for your videos for a long time love to see more pieces from your collection
The East German Military also printed both an operator manual and repair manual for the SSG/D... They are copies of the soviet version but have illustrations of NVA soldiers.
Good information. Thanks
Great video! Just getting into nva/DDR uniforms as I'm replicating a uniform for Airsoft, only have an svd and too modern ak and been looking what kind of svd pouches they may have used. What would you say is a close modern material that I could use to remake something close to this?
Thanks for the comment! Maybe a pvc tarpaulin would be the closest material. You could use the Soviet pouch too, since the DDR would have likely issued that too if there'd been a mobilization.
@@JiphoMilHistory-sr9bk Great video! I've only seen it once and have been trying to buy one for about ten years... They are very hard to find. Do you have an email address associated with your channel?
@@andersonalbano7228 Thanks! I ordered the pouch about 12 years ago from a shop in the Netherlands. I added an email address to the channel info, not writing it here to avoid bots. Feel free to contact, still have this.
Thanks so much! Sent!
Do you have any other NVA things?
Yes, a few crates of NVA gear. Next video maybe this weekend.
