    passwords should never be stored in a database, only the one way hashes, this is security 101. FAIL! The actual password should be in a physically protected vault somewhere in the building. Secondly for such an incredibly important repository - critically important for the safety of millions, it should've had 2 factor biometric validation not just a password.

      Cisco themselves have always identified the CCNA as an entry level certification so I am not quite sure how you came to the conclusion that it isn't.

    #1 is already misleading. A+ is NOT a cyber security certification. No one has ever said A+ is required for cyber security. #2 I got the GFACT, it's an intro cybersecurity cert through work. It's a new cert compared to GSEC. N+ and CCSP are obvious, vendor neutral vs vendor specific, if I am hiring, I want specific to my hardware. CEH is a NO $#!T obvious cert. It's all content, no lab and way too expensive. IT departments do not respect it because it doesn't prove anything. HR positions love CEH because they don't understand jack about IT. EJPT (beginner) and OCSP (Top tier) are way better options, very hands on.

    • @lab_cyber

      No A+ isn't a cyber security cert but many aspiring cyber security professionals go for it which is why I mentioned it.

    Hey, um part of your video is wrong, NPD is not just used for background checks, but also used for other personal information. The Government actually works with, and I think, partly runs this company. You should consider going back and redoing this video with proper information about NPD.

    • @lab_cyber
      @lab_cyber 18 днів тому

      It's redundant to say the NPD is also used for personal information when a typical background check involves gathering personal information about someone. Second, the Government does not work with or run the NPD. Where did you get this information from? I think you are the one who needs to consider doing some proper research before posting a comment.

    So let's say your Social was actually let loose in the wild. Somehow you manage to freeze your credit prior to any nastiness...but how long are you supposed to have it frozen? You need to be able to use your personal credit at some point. What is a permanent solution?

    • @tech-bore8839
      @tech-bore8839 25 днів тому

      Considering how the typical response is "1 year of free credit monitoring", my guess is these hackers will wait for at least 1-2 years before trying to use the SSN. By that time, most of the free monitoring will have expired AND people will have forgotten about the whole leak. Ideally, you keep your credit frozen indefinitely. You unfreeze it when you need to, but immediately freeze it again when you don't need it. Unfortunately, that's the only solution available. Until the government seriously cracks down on how companies manage personal data, citizens are essentially powerless.

    • @lab_cyber
      @lab_cyber 25 днів тому

      Good question. So the idea behind freezing your credit means that no one will be able to access your credit report unless you explicitly grant access to them. In truth this is something we should all do and permanently too. You will still be able to use your credit anyhow you wish and freezing your credit report will not affect you in any way.

    • @CarlDi3trich

      @@lab_cyber Ok. I was under the impression that this would stop legitimate inquires which would block things like loans.

    • @BCSpecht89
      @BCSpecht89 20 днів тому

      Freezing your credit means putting a LOCK on your accounts with the 3 major credit bureaus: Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. This will not prevent you from using your credit cards, but it will prevent anyone from opening any new credit cards, loans, lines of credit, etc. in your name while the lock is on your accounts. The lock will remain in place until you remove it. If you need to take out a loan, like a car loan or home improvement loan, or apply for a new credit card, you will need to remove the lock on your accounts temporarily until the loan is approved. Then you should re-lock your accounts. It's a pain, but this is the world we live in now. There is a class action lawsuit against this company that is responsible for this massive data breach. In my experience, that means that the lawyers will make a fortune while the victims get a pittance. I also think it's criminal that this data breach occurred back in April but we're only hearing about it a few weeks ago.

    ChatGPT is telling me it was a supply chain attack on Crowd Strike. "The supply chain attack on CrowdStrike involved the compromise of the XZ Utils data compression library, specifically versions 5.6.0 and 5.6.1, as identified by the CVE-2024-3094 vulnerability. This attack inserted malicious code into the library, which is commonly used in various Linux distributions. The malicious code aimed to create a backdoor, potentially allowing unauthorized access to systems using the compromised library. Supply chain attacks like this one highlight the vulnerabilities inherent in relying on third-party software components. The attack on CrowdStrike demonstrates how malicious actors can exploit these dependencies to infiltrate even well-protected environments. Continuous monitoring, timely updates, and robust security protocols are essential in mitigating the risks posed by such sophisticated cyber threats."
