ISUZU 4JH1 Mechanical pump conversion using adaptor plate
My experience converting a VP44 injected 4JH1-T to a VE injector pump out of a 4JB1-T using 4J Performance adaptor plate kit.
One major mistake I made was not locking the scissor gears, this linked video by Basket Case Builds shows how to do this

Wat do you do with the big plug that comes off the electric one. Do ya just leave it un pluged
Can someone please assist on the pipe firing order after conversion. I have come across both 1243 and 1342 which one is corect?
Use pom panther
Eu quero esse motor
Great video mate. Would love to see the mods to get the throttle cable changed over. 37N.m on the injector clamps for anyone wondering.
Does anyone reading this know about manual transmission interchangeability between the 4jb and the 4jh... I have a 4jb but would like to swap a 4jh in and then swap my mechanical pump over... It just seems safer than trying to increase the bore and stroke of the 4jb?
JH1 will directly bolt to a JB1 gearbox. The only difference you have is the crank sensor, which won’t be needed.
Thanks Paul, think I'm going to swap my 4jb1 for a 4jh1, do a mechanical pump swap and add on some other performance goodies from 4j performance... Guess I need to find the engine first. I'm in Canada but let me know if you have anything for me. The 4jb1 I have right now has the F5V turbo off the 4jj1 @@paulthepilot5
Andrew, I would like to ask you about what you tried to convert a 4jh1 double aspirated engine, and what are your views on this engine?

Thank you for your work. You have done a beautiful job, but there are some questions about whether you have made any other modification to the engine other than the diesel pump. The most important question is how many horses did you get after this process?
One small thing, bottom window, there's a hole for a 6mm bolt to lock the ✂️ gear
Andrew, How did you keep check engine light off, I presume tps. Thanks
Hey mate. Where do you connect the throttle cable to? Where it originally was or the mec pump?
Yeah mate, I used the TF rodeo cable that the mech pump came off of, so was able to use the pump brackets to be able to adjust the cable then. But I had to make the pedal end of the cable fit the Jackaroo fly by wire pedal, it worked in the end with some modifications
Hi give me the pump number please
Hey mate im thinking about doing this to my car, im just wondering do you connect another throtte cable or what, cause its a mechanical pump
Yeah I used the factory TF Rodeo cable, had to modify the pedal to suit but it worked a treat
@@andrewhensel3894 how would i run that throttle cable down to the injector pump
Hi Andrew could you give me the complete VE pump number please as I see most of the 4JB1 pumps are 3 bolt mount whereas I see yours is a 2 bolt mount
Great job mate - well done!
Hi Andrew, well done fitting g the 4jh1 to the jackaroo I'm soon going to do the same just wondering if the oil pressure switch from the 4jx1 fits the 4jh1 , I know it fits the 4jb1 as I do e o e of them already
Yeah it needs an elbow to clear the engine mount but that's all I used
Greetings, I have installed a mechanical pump to my isuzu d max 4jh1 and the response of the transmission, to apply the changes is not very good, do you know if there is any way to solve that or is it normal with the adaptation?
I think you still need the tps on it for it to work with an auto trans , what vehicle have you ?
Dmax , if you fit the isuzu trooper 3.0td 4jx1 throttle pedal it has a tps built into it and it could be wired in to the dmax , Also look up the 4jh1 mechanical pump swap pages on Facebook this has been discussed on it before
As far as I know there's no definite way to do the swap and have an auto drive correctly. Have heard of using 4jx pedal but don't think anyone has done it. Willing to be wrong though
good job .shouting frm jamaica .question do i have to purchase the complete package .i have in my position a 12 mm pump
No you can just use the 4jb1 timing gears instead
Greetings, I have made the adaptation to my truck with the jb1 turbo pump, and the power of the truck is not very good, and it applies the changes with difficulty and at a higher revolution, has the same happened to you? or is it necessary to make any adjustments
Definitely need to make adjustments. But I would recommend a dyno tune
Gday Andrew, thanks for filming this. Would like to do to mine in next few years. Really appreciated!!
How about 4wd?
I converted the SOTF to a manual transfercase. No electronic or vac lines to go wrong now
@@andrewhensel3894 jackaroo transfercase?
It's an isuzu trooper?... I swaped 4jh1 with electronic to my 92 trooper (before 3.2 V6) in 2015, now I planning swap to VE4/12, have the pump with new Zexel 12 mm head from 4JB1T. Cuestion, the original flange adapte from VE dont work in 4JH1?
Nah mate the bolt holes for the flange are different
How did u go swapping the 4jh1 into the v6 trooper. Did u have to make custom engine mounts?
Hey mate how long did it take you to swap everything over?
Depends how you look at it. Could do it in 4hrs but I took my time and checked other things along the way so I'd say a good weekends work probably
Good job, I've 2004 4jh1 here in ireland, I've my vp44 left in for overhaul, has my heart broken they are a horrible pump, I'd convert it over like yours tomorrow but the problem I've got is finding an old 4jb1 is almost impossible here, they are extinct at this stage anyways good job, well done 👏
Ps, did you also use the 4jb1 injectors? or keep the 4jh1 ?
Change only rotorhead.,. 12mm.cause the 4jb1 is only 11mm.i converted my 4jh1 already.good performance.
I used the B1 injectors and injector pipes, its the easiest. Might be able to get a B1 pump out of Aus/NZ of line. They're still very common here
@@andrewhensel3894 ok -- thanks for reply Andrew , I appreciate that, Jo
@@larsdoityourself3483 hi lars, sorry I'm not following you? "Rotorhead"?
Hey mate not a pro myself but you forgot to put a bolt in your preload gear
Yeah you're right. That's why I struggled getting the injector pump back in and needed to turn the motor back and faward to engage the scissor gear. Would definitely recommend using a timing bolt
@@andrewhensel3894 so how's it all going thinking about doing the same with a 12 mm pump head mines finally starting to get on my nerves near no throttle response until 1250 rpm
Greetings, I have a 2004 d max with the 4jh1 turbo engine, which is the right pump to replace the vp 44
Replacement of the vp44 to VE out of a 4jb1, requires either the adaptor plate I showed in the video or changing all the timing gears over from a 4jb1
@@andrewhensel3894 ok thanks
Where did you purchased the adaptor plate bro?
On Facebook from 4J Performance
Good video mate. How did it go with the mechanical on it?
I've done 12,000km so far and hasn't missed a beat. It's a bit rough on start up on cold mornings because I haven't wired up the cold start solenoid yet. But other than that heaps more responsive and was easily tuned
