Orthodox Christianity is not new to Britain: there are lots of Orthodox Saints here in Lincolnshire. At last count we have found 401 of them. There used to be many monasteries and monks and nuns in this county until the dissolution (over 100) but even before the Great Schism there were at least nine.
The address is:
St Matthias Church Centre,
Burton Road,
Lincoln.
LN1 3TX
- lots of parking (if you arrive early otherwise street parking)
Approximately 09:25 Matins
10am Divine Liturgy -
All welcome.
Your prayers!
Fr. Philip.

Not sure if it was this stream where you spoke on not pushing ourselves too hard too quickly, but I figured I’d share this. It’s from a wonderful book I’m reading called “Beginning to Pray” by Archbishop Anthony Bloom: *“A number of years ago I spoke about this at Taizé, and I have remained in correspondence with about thirty of the boys and girls there. One of them wrote to me and said I have tried your advice. I have tried it with all my energy. I have not yet had a minute in which I was not praying and acting, praying and acting, and now I can't hear the word of God, I can't bear this sort of prayer.' I said to her 'You've got indigestion. You should have used common sense in prayer, as one uses common sense in life. You cannot, having never prayed before, start with eighteen hours of dialogue and prayer with God continuously like this while you do other things. But you can easily single out one or two moments and put all your energy into them. Simply turn your eyes Godwards, smile at Him and go into it. There are moments when you can tell God "I simply must have a rest, I have no Strength to be with You all the time", which is perfectly true. You are still not capable of bearing God's company all the time. Well, say so. God knows that perfectly well, whatever you do about it. Go apart, say for a moment "I'll just have a rest. For a moment I accept to be less saintly"' In this way we can just rest and look at things which are also God's things trees and buildings and then after a while we go back to Him. If we try to pray continuously, we will be defeated quite soon; but if we choose moments intelligently we can do it. If you do that you will be able to pray. You can experiment, but don't forget to be sober because there is a sin which the Spiritual Fathers call 'spiritual greed', which consists of wanting to have more and more of God at a moment when you should be put on a diet and have just a little and enough for you.*

Father bless, As a convert, I definitely notice within myself the temptation for correctness. People doing this or that in a way that is not strictly "correct" if you go by the "rulebook". Often it is extremely insignificant things. I feel like this temptation generally arises to distract me from my own genuine, far worse behaviour. It's always easier to criticize others for not meeting standards you don't struggle with than to criticize yourself. May God forgive me!

Given most householders are short of time is it not enough to be a Christian to go direct to the source and read the words of Christ? Or walk the talk and keep the commandments/Jesus prayer? until death overtakes? There are enough tests in that everyday?

Father, what is one to do when their mind and lips confess the truth, but their heart is hardened? Not only I've lived my entire life away from my Lord, but I also suffer from a condition that inevitably hardens my heart to all things. I am afraid of being a hypocrite, and most of all of losing Christ since he doesn't stay at a heart that doesn't want him. May the Lord bless you for your amazing videos!

    • @ArchimandritePhilip
      @ArchimandritePhilip 6 днів тому

I'm not entirely sure what you mean BUT firstly remember that if you are "wanting to want" Christ in your life and heart then the Lord will acknowledge that too. If you have a condition... then God knows about that too, if you are afraid of being a hypocrite then you are probably not one. It's important to be honest with God. Only the "real" you can be saved. That "real" you may be pretty unpleasant but if you are trying to turn to Christ you will find that the Lord responds to what you are able to do. Try and be wholehearted about God and when/if you stumble then have another go. The Lord is NOT looking to condemn. He is looking to save, He is looking to find love in you and will Himself encourage that love to grow. I am not sure if I have answered your question but may God bless you anyway.

@@ArchimandritePhilip I have been chronically depressed my entire life. I first attempted suicide when I was 11. I think this condition hardens the heart of any man, and yet without it I would not have come to God as I do now, so I am not spiteful against it. That doesn't change, however, the fact that my heart is sore and tired; it doesn't budge or move in any way no matter what I throw against it. Without my heart being willing to move, I am unable to change my life as I so desperately want to in accordance to what my Lord has taught me. I feel I cannot make myself into the new man I should be in Christ. I try to have patience and ask for the Lord to melt the hardness of my heart but it's despair inducing to watch your own life go by without doing anything about it. Your comment means a lot to me, thank you so much for your time and wisdom!

In Judaism they were commanded not to eat meat which had blood in it. The meat was therefore soaked in water to remove any blood and the animal killed in such a way as to drain it of blood. It could be about this that the letter referred. In UK people eat "black pudding" which is a sausage made with blood.
