I have living memory of the tail end of this era. It died in the early 70s. Vietnam and Watergate finished it off.😢 By the time I was 13-14 in the early 80s, to be a boy scout was totally out of fashion. You would be guaranteed never to have a girlfriend.

I don’t really remember downtown Berea so much but we had good friends of the family that we used to go over to their house all the time when we were kids we lived on the west side near West 117th and it was a fun little John to come out and go down Eastland Road and turn right into third development somewhere behind the high school very cool 50s ranches. They were all the same back there. It was a good time.

This is a great video. I grew up in Berea in the '50s and '60s and wouldn't trade my childhood for a billionaires childhood. The triangle in high school days was a great place after school. Gray's candy kitchen which was shown was a fun place. He had booths and a jukebox in the basement for us to hang out. My barber, Sam the Barber was right there on the triangle too. Every year we would spend the entire fair week at the fair. We had ways of sneaking in without paying. Every Saturday at the Berea Theater. The sound in that theater was much better than the sound in theaters today.

I grew up there in the 60's and 70's. Our house was right behind St. Mary's school. I remember in 68' when they tore down the church. We has a brick from there we kicked around for a long time. Used to go down in the river and catch crayfish in the summer. In like I think 73' we moved to West St. and I went to Fairwood which is shown as well. Then Roehm and BHS. I ended up being in one of the first classes to go to Polaris. Almost overwhelming. OH, BTW, quite possibly one of the reasons you could sneak into the fair was because of my dad. He had a barn there for many years. He ran the horse show with them for many of those years. In fact, he passed away in the barn (10). Anyway, we was buddies with all the crew guys that worked there and they would go around and seal up all the holes in the fences. Just before the fair started he'd go around and cut them back open. LOL

Greg: I'm very sad to hear of Brady's passing. My deepest condolences to your family. I hadn't seen Brady since 1995 when he visited me and my son in South Carolina. I first met Brady when my family moved to Berea in 1962. I sat next to Brady in 4th grade at Loomis on my first day. I was scared and he was nice to me. It seems like he was always there with us kids and I expected he would always be there. I'm stunned and deeply saddened. Brady's spirit was wonderful. Kind, calm and he just loved and enjoyed everyone. I remember your house and I was fascinated by the map on the wall. Just the fact that there was a map on the kitchen wall. How cool was that! Ted was always a presence in Brady's life. I hope he is well and if so please let him know I said hi and how very sorry I am for the loss of his little brother.
