Drake tax software does what is "legally" required by the IRS, and nothing more- -nothing less! This keeps the practitioner and their company legal and safe in the event of a governmental (IRS) challenge. Like what you're saying in the video, BUT… I would recommend that the practitioner first assess the situation: know exactly what you're dealing with. In your example, the gross receipt's were $99K, which is way less than the $¼M requirement for balance sheet info, therefore, the balance sheet is not an issue on the S-Corp. tax return. A practitioner should always check the SOS website when taking on a new business client; you'd be surprised the discrepancies that pop up. For a $99K business client, you're making a practitioner work way harder than they have to. A perfect example of this is in the individual module, Schedule C, Section E: Business address. Whilst the Schedule C instructions call for leaving this area blank if the business address is the same as the taxpayer’s address on Form 1040, because of Phil Drake’s philosophy in doing tax returns, the Drake tax program has no option for overriding this Schedule C, Section E. Why? Another example is the fact that when there is an apartment number associated with taxpayer’s address, the program always prints out the letter part of the address in lower case. Despite the outcries from its customers over all these years change these items, because of Drake’s philosophy, Drake tax program does what it wants to do under the philosophy that is doing things “legally”.

I am trying to file a 23 return for a deceased taxpayer and I am getting the error to enter the date, it is entered. Drake is telling me I can't efile I have to mail it, that seems wrong. We switched from Lacerte to Drake for 2024, but this is a 2023 return.
