The AI in patch 4.0 is in an abysmal state. AI becoming braindead and not flanking, caused by the player doing simple things.

Helman Ghorst is a bit one-note, being Heavily focused on Zombies. Let's spice up his start by giving him an EXTREMELY large battle marker, allowing him to recruit tier 5 units as early as turn 7. Noctilus's DEVASTATING Start

Noctilus is probably the strongest lord for the Vampire Coast. That's no reason to not also do some broken stuff at the start. Killing Tyrion on turn 4 ramps up the campaign even faster than it could be before! All videos are made for Legendary campaign and Very hard battle difficulty. PATCH 3.1 UPDATE: Unfortunately (but rather fortunately) this strategy no longer works the same way as in the video. All steps can still be followed exactly but all sieges can now be done much more simply by 100% stalk cheesing. No more having to kill units in the garrisons before sending in stalkers! The victory location on location now locked feels bad man
I think I like this start more than MercyTheMad's Sarthoreal confederation
unfortunately this strategy does not work now, because before the "victory point", where you got to the rear of the point, you initially need to capture the "key building" (horn shape). Eh, I wanted to cheat to actively destroy the chaos of the dwarves, but it did not work out on hard difficulty

I usually like to hobo Belegar and settlement hop over to karach eight peaks, can usually take it on turn 12-14 (yes on legendary/very hard)

It’s annoying that you can’t get Sarthoreal once he’s been defeated. Even if you incite rebellion in his starting province his original faction doesn’t rebel like older TW games, so there’s no chance of a resurrection. You just keep getting elven rebels. As Kairos there’s a lord you can recruit that has the title “ever watcher” I feel @ level 20 this Lord should change into Sarthoreal if the original faction has been wiped. Although like other non-playable legendaries he doesn’t really have any great skills, he does have interesting abilities and is a cut above an ordinary Greater Lord of change.
Unfortunately, as of 5.0.3 this strategy is no longer valid because the major capture point is locked by default and can only be unlocked by capturing "key" capture points elsewhere on the battle map. I tried a few variations but none seem to work.
you could siege lothern with just 1 lord, then finish tyrion, then you can finish city itself maybe?

How do you take the settlements victory point without having the key building under control? My victory point is locked until I do that
You can't do this anymore. It was patched.
I managed it but it's less easy to do; more flaky. Let your chiefs fight at the gate. Take the key building with master assassin and beeline him to the victory point. Use menace from belows and mors mores to keep enemy troops away from the key building. If you can keep the key building clear long enough you can get enough points.
Did they remove this cheese? I tried it and I didnt get any raise dead sites
There are a couple rules to create a marker, but you probably had a problem with this one: You can only create a marker if both your and your enemy's main army(the one you used to attack/was attacked) has at least 14 units. What most likely happened is that they had a lord inside the city who didn't have 13+ more unis in his personal army.

This no longer works. During seiges, you must now capture a central control point before you're allowed to back cap. The AI will absolutely cover the central point in barricades before you can make it there, and you'd have to split up your skulkers anyway so they couldn't cap as fast and definitely couldn't hold as well CA's solution to nobody liking seige battles was to make them last even longer, thanks CA

Another way to go is to keep Tilea alive and kill Ikit and Aranessa. The alliance there will give you a possibility at a life wizard later on. What i did was take over all tilea regions and kept skavenblight and sold bhufdar to wood elves and then traded for miragliano which let me sell them the rest of the area to them. That way i didnt have to deal with wood elves and could get some healing from hired zoats from the alliance, and then i could focus on going to k8p killing wurrzag along the way.
Im glad he doesnt have any complex mechanics. Thats why i dont like chaos dwarves.....too many boring complex mechanics.
Doesn't work at all, unless you re-try over and over and over again untill the stars align, at which point you might as well cheat. Middle gates can be protected by ranged units, which will turn your hero into cheese. Even if you manage to do it, the lord will simply go east to chase your hidden units - even if you don't touch the wall capture point. Relying on 'hidden' units in this game is a fools errand since the AI isn't programmed to really care about this part of the game properly - it doesn't utilize stealth itself, and it'll just home to your hidden units after a short period of 'at least dont make it too obvious'

Still works as of 10/24/2023. Took me two tries as the first try Grimgor walked inside of the settlement. Keep an eye on him to move him back behind the wall the second the gate goes down.

Still works, 1st try got hit by the Centaur patrol + big drake and lost but on 2nd try was smooth af. Thanks! EDIT: Hit by them on the capture point, for some reason they both came for it but on the 2nd try they didn't lol.

You do know ai reaction time and intelligence varies with the difficulty you on right
If they would buff ai then players would lose more often and losing is not fun. Tbh i really enjoy this now, i can win battles what i shouldnt win otherwise. And thats great beacuse i can counter ai bullshit
Yeah the ai is pretty bad but on the other hand i really thankfull when grimgor bring 3 fullstack waagh army and they bugging left and right and im able to chesee them And actually win the otherwise unfair unwinnable campaing ending scenario with my one and only army. Plus when the ai do some blobing its really satisfying to punish them.
too bad they "fixed" this while keeping all the shitty other bugs in like gunpowder units being completely useless in this battle because they can't do dmg at all not even when THEY are standing on the wall or being stuck in the ladder animation but yeah better fix THIS and only this lmao
Yes I noticed it as well that Ai is dumb af now. I remember fighting battle against chaos dwarfs and I was worried because they had very good army against me (cathay). I sent lord to keep them occupied while my artillery was blasting them to pieces. I was expecting them to move out but they didnt. They were waiting for reinforcements the entire time. When reinforcements arrived they were stacked so I blsted them with 1 spell only after that they started moving towards me but they did like 3 steps forward when army losses kicked in and I won the battle with almost minimal losses what I expected to be a pyrrhic victory.
played the franze campaign after the update... its fuckn broken now from all 4 corners there is a threat is become stand your ground ..its horrible now
Man this makes me sad. We still have to see how those Campaign AI changes work out, as on paper they sound quite nice, but this looks horrible. I was hoping they actually improved the battle AI a bit in this patch (or at least not make it worse lol). I mean, i don't expect the AI to withstand all the shenanigans that "Legend of Total War" does with them, but when you actually have to try not to break them it gets annoying. I really do hope they can just fix this in 4.1, but considering their recent history I'm not hopeful. I'm not expecting the AI in TWW3 every to be brilliant, but it would really be nice if they got them somewhat functional at least. Like not sending you army in bit by bit for them to die, doing at least a bit of flanking and using your fliers and chavalery decently, no massive blobbing or complete passivity. And if they actually have a larger force then you maybe try some enveloping of your army and not just send like 4+ of their troops on one of yours just so they can get shoot by a massive ranged force in the back. That part where like 15 units get stopped by 3 frontline troops, blob up in front of them and never really try to get to the ranged units is just frustrating.
That was still really good value in damage for the second attempt
Ok but like why would the AI attack your army, when they can just fight your lord instead?
