Do you trail run in the winter? I do! I just can't get enough of the fresh cold air filling my lungs and the crunch of my feet hitting the snow. My favourite trails to run in London, Ontario are environmentally significant areas. ESA’s are natural areas in and around London, ...

Great tips, this was wonderful! Can't wait to start using the 2 sec timer too, what a great idea! Hope to see new videos from you soon!
Ive really enjoyed your style and approach to photography after watching most of your photo videos. Enjoyed the snokeflake video especially. Have you stopped making these types of videos? They are an great watch.
A snowflake on a spider’s web is poetry.
Somebody who shares knowledge and advise with easy to follow step by step explanations. Better yet, Unpretentious and not Pompous ass like most UA-camrs reviewing cameras/photos these days. A BIG THANK YOU! 🙏🏻 you have another subscriber Julie 👍🏻
Hi Julie, I wonder if you could install a ball pan head at ghe top of your monopod? Thanks and keep on creating.
Definitely! That's a great idea. I have a small Newer one I use for the slider so I could pop it on the monopod for sure!
Great Composition Video, the quality of your production and script is unrivalled, looking forward to your next video
Thoroughly enjoyed this
Thanks so much!
Good video.
You are a great story teller!
Thank you so much! And thanks for watching!
Hi you are doing a great work😊
Thank you so much!
These early morning video’s and stills are awe inspiring! The beautiful Bonnechere River.
What a fun adventure! What is your background music? I really love the cello in it.
Great topic and video! Well done!
That strap!!! @__@
Great video! I bought the Meike extension tubes for $30 last year and they make for a fun macro hobby on the cheap. To protect the lens another photog recommends having silica packs inside your bag to help prevent moisture. Yours is more extreme but I thought I would throw that out there.
Yes, that's a great suggestion. Silica packs come in everything...just got to remember to not throw them out! That would suck if they broke in your camera bag though. I always have a plastic grocery bag with my camera gear anyway because they have different uses in the field like rain protection while shooting or having something to rest your bag or gear on if it's muddy, etc.
@@JulieWhelanPhotographer I'm keeping plastic bags from now on. Great advice!
Very nice video👏🏻
Thanks so much!
Hey there ! Thank you for sharing your experience on the field. You seem passionate about being in nature and photography, what more to ask ? :) See you in the next one !
Thanks Jean! It's all I ever want to do! See you in the next one! 😄
I love your video, and I'd like to know whats music title you put at minute 14:00
Thanks Idris! The song is First Rain (only-piano) Leads by Ian Post and I found it on Artlist.
I must admit, you have a great taste of music, And thanks for share.
Great video! Solid story telling! Would love to go to Canada one day to take pictures! The scenery looks breath taking!
Thanks! Yes, the scenery here is quite amazing, I feel very lucky to be Canadian!
This randomly showed up in my UA-cam suggested. Glad it did. Great video, seems very high quality for an account with sub 1k followers (508???, whaaaaat?) Great job
I'm so glad it did too! Thanks for watching!
chilly adventure 🥶 I like monopod = easier to travel with
Yes! That's a great point. That's why I brought the monopod instead of the tripod. I was still feeling like Bambi on the snowshoes and wanted something easier to walk with.
@@JulieWhelanPhotographer yea gear weight is important for more comfortable travel - I often ride electric scooter to nature/ocean spots so staying light makes a big difference, also researching about macro lens/will see
Hello Julie awesome tips! totally relate running around like a headless chicken trying to photograph everything. Just have to breathe in, relax, and slow down😊 new subscriber
"I am addicted" fitting, we all were with this journey and the payoff of those epic pictures at the end was well worth it! Great video, now I want a macro lens, any recommendations for a m4/3 one?
Awe thanks Seth! To be completely honest, I have no experience with macro on a micro 4/3 camera. BUT, I do know that Gerald is the smartest guy I know so definitely worth asking him! Thanks for watching!
Love this video, very captivating as you capture some of the beauty of nature.
Thanks so much, David!
Great job, Julie! Now I need a macro lens in my life 🤣 I actually snorted at your "I didn't move on." Something I could totally relate to. And the plastic bag tip was a good one! Never thought about that.
Thanks Dan! A snort and a laugh is definitely what I'm aiming for and I HIGHLY recommend investing in a macro lens. It changed the way I see the world, no exaggeration.
Catching that bug in the composition around 5.30 was great!
What a lovely video, thank you!
Thanks for watching!
I’m here holding my breath while the camera stops shaking each time you press the shutter. Really nice tiny slice of life.👍🙏
Hahaha I found myself holding my breath a lot while shooting this video! Not sure it helps much, but I'm gonna do it anyways!
Your narration and vlogging style is so wholesome and soothing! So many pleasant vibes! A nice change of pace compared to the in-your-face short form content the internet seems to be shifting towards. Looking forward to seeing more of your content in the future :)
Thanks so much for watching!
Nice video.
Thank you!
Great video, great patience too :). You should maybe buy a remote control on Amazon. Mine is very useful specially for macro.
Thanks Antoine! That is a fantastic suggestion!
Well, I did get here from Gerald's post, but, I'm so happy he shouted you out! You're such a relatable person and a great photographer not by your subscriber count and not by your photography award but, how much you inspired me just now to take my gear and go for a walk. After all it's the thing I love doing, but sometimes you need a little push! Great video!!!
Thanks so much for watching and your kind words. Walking with a camera in hand is my favourite thing to do as well!
Lovely video! When you upped your F number from 8 to 6.3 you said that you didn´t like that, why is that? Keep up the good work!
Thanks Ernesto! I didn't like it because it produced a more shallow depth of field. But in hindsight, I probably could have stayed at f/8 and just lightened up the image in Photoshop.
I’ve taken a lot of macro snowflake ❄️ pictures ... but never any hanging in the air! Great job on the pictures 📷
You've become a guru at snowflake photography now 😂
@@SlideWreckDan It’s a cold and seasonal hobby
Thanks so much! You must have the patience of a saint! So challenging! Respect!🙏
@@JulieWhelanPhotographer Thanks - I have fine tuned my setup to make it easier, but it does take some patience
Fantastic! That is quite curious how they're just "hanging there", but it makes for amazing photos! Thanks for sharing.
Right?! How were they just there?!?! Thanks for watching!
I adored this video. You may have your snowshoes on backward, but you have a really great sense of telling the story of a photographer struggling to get a shot. The editing was funny and captivating, and the time flew by. I also like how you paced out the music and the reveal, so that by the time you started showing the final images in the 14th minute it felt like an emotional payoff. It might sound absurd to say this about an 18-minute video about a single snowflake, but this is my favourite video I've watched on UA-cam in a long time. Bravo! 👏💜
You’re right Gerald. Time was suspended. Flew by!
Thoroughly enjoyed this and loved how persistent you were in trying to capture that wiggly snowflake.
Thanks so much! I don't have much in the way of patience, so I think it was the challenge that kept me there. 😀
Good to see you back Julie. The lone snowflake was a great spot and a lovely image. Very enjoyable vlog 🙂
Thanks so much Barry! Macro truly is a whole other world.
I tried getting some snowflake photos myself when it snowed in Texas not too long ago. But couldn't find a large enough snowflake so I didn't end up getting any 🥲 Even at 1:1 Macro it's not enough. I might have to extension tube my macro lens, but that's quite tricky especially since I have a 50mm instead of a say 100 or 90mm.
It's so tricky. I highly recommend watching Don Komarechka's video: How to Photograph Snowflakes on the DPReview UA-cam channel. So good.
I would've never imagined the library would rent out snow shoes lol
Nothing like curling up with a good “snowshoe” on a cloudy afternoon. Thank goodness for Librairies.🤡
Right?! I was surprised but took full advantage!
