A Miscellany From Deepest Kent
United Kingdom
Приєднався 23 сер 2011
This is the channel of Kentish author Adam Colton (please look me up on Amazon or iBooks if you enjoy UK travel writing, psychological fiction or music reviews). Here you will find a selection of journeys - from British Rail route training videos (cab rides), to the legendary Ashford Ring Road in Kent (essentially a cab ride in a car), to bike rides along routes including river paths. If you like 'driver's eye views' this is the place for you.
There are recordings by Kent artists and bands, including a number by topical / humorous mother and son folk duo, Adam Colton and Teresa (find us on Spotify, iTunes and all major UK music sites).
Other items include local interest items from the Hamstreet / Ashford / Romney Marsh area of Kent, including TV appearances - local stuff for local people!

Adam Colton Comedy #8 (Trump, Mac & Cheese)

Leaving Ham Street, the line continues to climbs at 1 in 100 and enters Hamstreet Woods, a remnant of the ancient Forest of Anderida which once covered the whole of the Weald of Kent and Sussex. The terrain flattens out again at the top of the hill for the final five miles into Ashford.

Marsh Link Rail Ride (3 of 7) - Leaving Rye
Переглядів 829 місяців тому
A Marsh Link train bound for Ashford leaves the historic town of Rye. Rye is a passing place for services on the route which is a single track between Ore and Appledore. The stone Landgate arch, Rye town model and cobbled Mermaid Street' are all worth a visit. Beyond Rye the line crosses the River Rother and traverses the open terrain of Romney Marsh, passing into Kent before reaching Appledore.
Marsh Link Rail Line (2 of 7) - Between Hastings & Rye
Переглядів 709 місяців тому
A section of the railway journey between Hastings in East Sussex and Ashford in Kent. Having passed through Ore, Three Oaks and Doleham, this point in the journey marks the transition from the Sussex hills to flatter terrain. The line enters the Brede Valley here, before reaching Winchelsea, a small but historic town with three stone arches that was laid out in a grid pattern to replace the ear...
Marsh Link Rail Line (1 of 7) - Leaving Hastings
Переглядів 659 місяців тому
The Marsh Link traditionally ran as a shuttle service between Hastings in East Sussex and Ashford in Kent. Trains currently run from Eastbourne, although in the early 21st century the service ran all the way from Brighton. It is one of only two diesel lines on the Southern network and our journey climbs out of Hastings at a gradient of 1 in 60. There are two tunnels under the hills that surroun...
Marsh Link Rail Ride (4 of 7) - Leaving Appledore
Переглядів 879 місяців тому
A Marsh Link train bound for Ashford leaves Appledore on a cold January day. Romney Marsh was once covered by water and other marshes in the area include Walland Marsh, Denge Marsh and Pett Level. The area between Appledore and Ham Street is known as the Dowels and is the lowest part of Romney Marsh. Appledore village is almost two miles from this station, and although peaceful now, it has had ...
Marsh Link Rail Ride (5 of 7) - Arriving At Ham Street
Переглядів 699 місяців тому
A Marsh Link train bound for Ashford arrives at Ham Street on a cold January day. The one-word spelling of Hamstreet is generally used these days and maps of the village appeared on a set of postage stamps to mark 200 years of the Ordnance Survey in the 1990s. The railway climbs a gradient of 1 in 100, climbing the clay hills that surround Romney Marsh.

Ipswich Spiral Car Park by bike

From the top to the bottom of this unusual car park which I have always regarded as a bit of a tourist attraction. It’s in Ipswich in Suffolk, UK and seems a great way to conserve town centre land.

(You Want Things To Change But) You Always Vote The Same - by Adam Colton
Ive had the pleasure to have traveled and lived in many places in this world and Ashford has got to be by far the worst place i have ever had the mispleasure to have lived. The people are some of if not the most ignorant illiterate incestuous people ever. Horrible people.
Think i can see the old Hobbs Parker auctioneers building at 1.39,not sure if theyd moved to their new site when this was made.
Just that arcing 73 at 4:50 is worth the watching this video for!!! 😂 Lovely to see old BR just before the Tory Witch sold it off and destroyed its soul.
I assume they filmed this at something like 5am in high summer, as there's so few interruptions!
This was the Ashford I remember. I love this place
Is there a website to get these videos?
Just shows how much worse Ashford was! It's still pretty bad and overran with roads but it used to be so much worse
👏👍
I'm surprised there wasn't any animals
Love this one Adam!
Love this song 🎉
Nice video.
Uploaded an updated version on my channel, with links to this original!
Much preferred it like that.
Bad bit of drivin g approaching the cross roads (5.0)
Holy cow, I thought this was the original, it's spot on. Adam Garry and Matt make a cool power trio, got to support the boys! It's phenomenal, especially to a solo act on yt like me, cheers!
02:14 Four lanes wide. Now it's one lane each way. Progress?
That's the catch, you cannot make systemic change by voting.
All words of truth, let's hope it's not to late and we can still turn things around!
Fingers crossed they don't make a pig's ear of things at COP27.
That was brilliant! Keep up the great work and look forward to hearing more!
This is the truth and people need to hear it let’s get this around, what great lyrics an absolute genius. Put this on local radio……
I remember these days , jaffa cake livery 4 ceps, newly refurbished too. I got a cab on one of the last Hastings units up to charing Cross and back in about April 1985 ish just b4 electrification . I live in Hastings now and use this line often . Now electrostars 375 s .-bud the painter-
That's some funny stuff, your just saying it like it is. Keep up the good work of keeping it real.
I visited Ashford in 1963. Hasn't it changed?
It's all very true! This winter is going to hit us all hard, so make sure we all look after eachother. 👍
2022.....An 'empty, vacant, rundown kent town, that needs to be policed and completely sanitized of the anti-social scum!.
The same guy narrates all of the NSE route learning videos.
You started at Stanhope, not singleton
It starts at the entrance to the lake from Bucksford Lane.
Year?
2014.
Lol, that was some funny stuff, but you will need many albums to scratch the surface of the mistakes he's made. !

When visitors used to get lost in Ashford's one way system! I moved away in 1993, so a few things are different from "my" Ashford, but still lots of memories.
Great film, brought back memories, thanks. The nighttime circuits of the ring road were a lot faster 😎
Perfect!
Thank you! There's a second volume of these too: ua-cam.com/video/Rt00aWHtx1M/v-deo.html
Alas Ashford has changed a lot since then...
Hasn't it just.. gone is the small market town with it's own Identity.
Some drive, good to get a headache.
Good grief! Look at all that litter at Hastings! I think we're all just more aware and caring about the environment than we were back then.
@@OlafProt. Do you still a bobble hat ,and glasses .
Old but not old but nice journey.
What year was this?
Late nineties - 97 seems about right.
i think this is quite relaxing compared to the original, but ironic compared to the reprise after Time
I do like this one.
Thank you. It's nice to imagine Kurt being into environmental things if he was still around.
Wow! This is superb! I moved to Ashford in June. Fascinating to see how it used to look! I’d love to do a “now” version of this!
What a great village! I live here😁
You are a diamond who thinks he's still carbon!!!!!!!!
Love it! Maybe graphite! :-)
I've done a blog on this topic now. Anything to raise the alarm! walkingadventure-day1.blogspot.com/2022/07/thoughts-on-climate-change.html
Thank You Adam and Theresa👍🌼🌍
Dear Adam - this is dedicated to you. Much love and respect. ua-cam.com/video/SxkZ1mP4uVU/v-deo.html
Brilliant illustration of the original clip. Glad you enjoyed it and that's great work that you're doing.
