Gypsy, Gypsy
A happy little tune I came across some years ago on an old CD which, of course, I have since lost. So that means I have no idea of the origin - is it a folk tune? Written by somebody? I don't know and have been unable to find anything out about it either. So if anybody can give me more info I'd love to hear. I seem to recall that it was an album of all genuine Gypsy music.

CA' ROSSA is a waltz for accordion typical of the Bolognese Filuzzian genre, written and performed by Ruggero Passarini, considered the undisputed "King" of this musical genre. This is an old Jewish folk song - in a nice up-beat polka style tempo. I make no political statement with this (UA-cam is too woke to let me get away with that), but perhaps you can guess where I sit on the matter. Another wonderful piece from the fabulous Avsenik brothers. This well seemingly never runs dry! The song title means "The Village Beauties". I call these Alpine waltzes because even though the composers were Slovenian the music is reflective of any of the alpine countries. The village shot I used in this case is a Bavarian village. Just lovely.

Lovely song composed in 1954 by pianist Erroll Garner. Lyrics were added later. Watching Erroll play this is an experience! What a musician! My cover here is a simple accordion version - no fancy jazz interpretation, or effects of any kind - just me and my squeezebox.

This is a famous Neapolitan song written by Italian journalist Peppino Turco and set to music by Italian composer Luigi Denza in 1800. It was composed to commemorate the opening of the first funicular cable car on Mount Vesuvius. The 1880 cable car was later destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 1944. I added a little mandolin sound to the accordion - quite a bice combination I think.

This is a delightful French musette polka simply entitled - Polka Musette. I have found several tunes (not this) on-line with the same name but I haven't been able to find this particular piece. So regrettably I am unable to attribute the composer or any other performers on-line.

Hi Brian, can I ask you if that is a "Dale Mathis" edtion Accordion? .....I tried to get one from him a few years back, but he only ships to American customers because of Rolands Franchise. I have a 3x but would've liked to have a 4x. I cant help you with "Gypsy, Gypsy"...you played it so well.
Thanks Martin. Not a Mathis accordion mate. I bought it from a local music shop here in Akl a long time ago now. I have a few UPG's from Richard Noel, Michael Bridge, and Pietr Bosma but I find that they are not quite to my liking (just artistic differences) but they are a great source for ideas and often I use bits I like and make up my own.

In the mid-fifties, I would awake in my berth aboard our lovely old 1929 house-yacht in Ft. Lauderdale, and I would hear my mother in the galley gently whistling this tune. She has left me, but I can never hear this song without remembering that idyllic time....
