Certainly an old school method seen on CAR-15s. I've only seen the paracord used around the FSB and didn't require the tape. Everybody has their own favorite setup

This is how I use my sling setup if properly tied they become quick disconnects no metal clanking around and 550 is super durable I usually run two on the hand guard one looped right where you have yours

I have exact same rifle but is Colt 6920. Only difference is 16 inch barrel instead of 11.5. Excellent rifle.

Now that is good information. I’ve used a similar idea for years now, just a common really short bolt run through a QD mount. Never would I have thought of this.

I do something similar with Magpuls picatinny sling point that’s got the D shape to it. I use it as a reference point that gives me a consistent and perfect grip every single time I use my support hand to grab hold of it.
